For anyone doing the burning stations for grinding out the ranks. Just be careful about two things: one, have heatsinks it’s on fire two, be careful about explosions they can push you into other landing pads which for some reason still gives you a trespassing fine and you can’t pay it off in that station. Other than that you’re good.

I found a new way to board flip (I think). If you store a ship at the station and switch between your ship and the stored one, I believe it changes the mission board. (Worked for me when looking for fed navy missions). Check for yourself tho.

Two things I'd like to add: The rescue missions are nerfed compared to a couple of updates ago. The number of people to be saved decreases with each completed mission and slowly recovers over time, which lowers payout, which lowers rank-gain. I try to look for 2-3 damaged stations and hop systems after 3-4 cycles of rescuing. The Ananconda with its large number of optional internals is very nice for this type of grinding missions! Second point regarding promotion missions: If you found a station offering a promotion mission, currently the mission type and the minor faction offering it (data courier, assassination, etc) will get re-rolled when you quit the mission board (similar to previously existing "board hopping"). The promotion mission itself will be guaranteed, though. When you are commander of a passenger-shuttle, I usually get very upset if offered a very high-level assassination mission. AND: if you are in a large ship and get offered a courier mission to a medium station (only visible under "requirements not met") and switch to a smaller ship, the mission is almost sure to be a different one, when going back to the mission board.

Currently I think sothis and ceos have been nerfed. Another option would be Ochosi system Perry's Follys. It is roughly 160 ly away from Sol. It is unfortunately out of the bubble. This station gives data courier missions to two systems. Its not as fast but still a good option. Another way to get more missions is to exit the game and load back into solo, open, or private. This works because Frontier now has servers for missions but they are different in each server.

currie enterprise in fionn has been doing me well for fed grind, usually a few courier type missions available along with a variety of other missions, and currie is fairly close to the arrival point, so not much time spent in super cruise.

I did my Empire Ranking in Ngalinn/Mainani and after a bit, I saw missions popping up for Imperial Slaves. So if you are still grinding out your rep, doing those can get you lots of Credits as well. Using EDDB, I found a couple systems within 70Ly that had more than enough Imperial Slaves available for multiple runs to make some money. I did my Empire Ranks in about 6 hours with just data missions and in 2 days of running Imperial Slave missions from Mainani and Ngalinn, I made enough to buy a Cutter, gear it and then buy an anaconda and gear it.

I did rescue missions to grind my ranks for Empire and Federation. Took about 1.5 hours per rank once I found the right station. I used a python with 98 econo cabins. Additionally, most missions give a time bonus of 100k credits, so I made roughly 1m per run, which took about 5 minutes each. A good station will have at least 4 factions aligned with empire or federation. Even with 4 factions, I would deplete all the missions available and would resort to picking other factions and taking the data and tech material rewards, and got a ton of that stuff as well. I stopped grinding at Duke and Rear Admiral, and bought my Cutter and Corvette finally. Additionally, I accidentally found a fed station that had sirius corp as a faction, and became allied with them in no time.

@@wickerman1227 Out of curiosity, what ship are you using? I wasn't sure if a rescue ship had a large landing dock, so I left my big ships at home. My python had the most internal storage for a medium ship so I went with that. A krait might work but both of mine are already outfitted for specific tasks ( exploration and bounty hunting ) and I didn't feel like reconfiguring. The python ran a little warm in the bay, so I had to stock up on heat sinks. I intend to go back to rescue missions when I get bored with mining, engineers and grinding for guardian goodies. They pay well, and are a good source for materials.

I just did rescue missions from burning stations. Got my vett in one day. And same works for the empire. Get an anaconda or python and spend a day saving people, takes one day or two at the most. Also, if you want easy promotion just go to sol and switch stations after every mission.

Do Ochosi runs for Federal Rank too. It is a loop that goes from Ochosi to Chakpa to HIP #### and back to Ochosi. Each station offers missions for the other so you end up where you started. Loads of rep.

Is it actually working decent now? I'm sitting on 47% post commander and I feel like pulling my hair out, because the only station i can evacuate people from has 2 fed factions in it and i get 1-4% per run, whereas when Aulin was on fire I'd get 10-15% per run

@@NovaBadger It still works just fine. I hit Duke and Rear Admiral in roughly 8hrs play time from none in each rank. Did Ngalinn to Mainani runs for Imperial rank and Ochosi runs mixed with rescue missions for Fed. As for Rescue missions, that is up to the RNG gods. I had a station that had a TON of feds in it and made up a ton of rep with it that day.

It's not only RNG At first run I get ~8 missions for feds 2nd gives 2-4 missions 3rd gives 0-2 I believe it refreshes for about 15 minutes, or if I visit/do a mission in another system.

@@ergo_frosty I can only speak of my experience over the last few weekends doing this. It refreshes when you exit the mission board and go back in, for the most part. It is not traditional board flipping but it does work when the RNG numbers roll your way. HOWEVER, I noticed that for Federation the RNG was not as favorable for me as when I did this same thing in Ngalinn for Imperial rank. I went from Rank None to Duke in a weekend of two longish play sessions doing this in Ngalinn, last weekend. Went from Rank None to Rear Admiral in the same amount of time using Ochosi and Rescue missions. I started with rescue but finished with Ochosi after seeing it work. Maybe it was my methods with Ochosi runs. I would take all the Fed missions to the surrounding three systems. Jump, turn in and take whatever they had for Ochosi. Jump to next, turn in take what have for Chakpa. Return to Ochosi. Rinse and repeat. The number of missions would vary wildly but they still were there. The Ngalinn runs for Imperial rep were FAR easier. It is just a run between Ngalinn and Mainana.

I have my own ranks guide which is a bit old but I think still relevant in some places. My systems for feds are Gang Yun, HIP 64706 and Byggvi. You just cruise between these 3 systems with data delivery and avoid deliveries to the planetary at Gang Yun. The guide was written about a year ago and at those times I didn`t manage to find anything more effective, and though 2 A-B systems are better, I still recommend to check these out just in case (I am now on expedition so I just can`t check them myself).

61 Virginis, currently under Thargoid incursion, has 4 or 5 fed factions and a damaged starport. Spec for max economy passenger cabins, you just jump to the rescue ship and drop off the passengers. Aren't boom, expansion systems best way to earn minor faction rep and get rank up missions?

As of right now, there's only 1 fed starport that needs evacuation, and it doesn't offer much rank at post commander, maybe 2% per go, so i think I'm gonna head back to Sothis/Ceos and run bio waste to Don's Inheritance again, seems to work out pretty well with missions offering Rep+++++, hopefully i can finish it off today and blow off some steam on some poor Anaconda in a haz res in my new IMPERIAL ANNIHILATOR (Corvette)

Regular money missions that give 1 + of rep give 1% rep toward your rank meter. Each additional + in the mission menu seems to add an additional 1% once completed. It continues to build passed 100% into the bar of your next rank. Find a Navy mission, do it, and then you will move to the next rank and see your next progression bar.

@@Brewer_ basically do data missions between hip 8444 and hip 8758. Depending on current faction state, you could get rank very quickly. Take REP+++++ rewards to speed things up.

Well depends on how you play it When I started I always went bounty hunting in high rez just stealing the kills from the cops and you'll get around 1-2 mil per hour so you'll get the first ships fast but grinding for an anaconda takes very long Then I started road to riches about 10 mil an hour got my Phyton and conda and just a few days ago I started deepcore mining and I've earned nearly double the money I got when Bounty hunting for ages(like 70 hours) in just 6 hours Elite has always been "easy" but the things you get the most with are often very boring If you go deep core mining be sure to have good music or even a film ready because otherwise you'll die of boredom

@@sorcererberoll4641 different stations have different ships for sale, but some ships are unlocked with horizons. once you get to elite in any of the rankings you gain access to the shinrata, the station their has every ship available and every ship upgrade available.

Not sure, what the minimal Empire/Federation status is, but after grinding you should be allied with them. This raises the chance of getting promotion missions... I think it also helps, if the controlling faction of the station is not independent, but the one you want a promotion mission from, and that minor faction also needs to be a high enough status (friendly/allied).

I know this is old and nobody cares anymore because we have all developed a thousand yard stare,twitching grasping fingers and more than a little dribble of saliva hanging from our chin but this could be so much better. can we keep throwing ideas at them, maybe if we throw enough some shit will stick. My idea for rank upgrades, firstly, you can only be in one navy at a time, nothing wrong with a bit of backstabbing turncoat action if you feel that way inclined. secondly, have a fricking navy. why not have whole systems as conflict zones. build some f@ck off big naval stations loaded with all sorts of weapon trickery around various planets add some fighter cover, maybe a capital ship or two then get missions to attack said systems. you could then earn medals, points to upgrade your rank depending on kills/mission objectives that you achieve. these systems could be defended by Npc or player or both. for commanders you could put a simple rank block on them to keep player abilities on a similar level if desired. now a single commander wouldn't get very far so you would have to go in mob handed with other members of your navy. either on arranged times or just constant warfare. yes it would still be grinding, but it would involve lots of explosions and bragging ights and it would be what a navy is supposed to do. ahhhhh that feels better. i'm watching too many yamiks videos, im starting to rant like him
