Rio de Janeiro, November 6th, 1817. Today is something Brazil has never seen before, a royal wedding! Prince Pedro I, son of John VI, has just met his wife, the Austrian archduchess
Maria Leopoldina. Who is clever, sincere, and has prepared herself for this new world.
Learning her seventh language, Portuguese, and bringing with her a collection of interesting plants and minerals to introduce to Brazil. However, this marks the beginning of a struggle between the ruling powers of Portugal and the budding new independence of Brazil.

Fun fact: Brazil's flag colors aren't about forest and gold. The Green stands for the Bragança of Portugal and the yellow stands for the Habsburgs

I think this was definitely Pedro’s one most egregious character flaw, his infidelity. It’s rather sad, because Maria Leopoldina was practically the perfect woman

You forgot one detail: Pedro I of Brazil was favorable to the abolition of slavery. One of his least know quotes was "I know our blood is the same of them (slaves)".

Unfortunately the portuguese didn't treated us equaly, if they did the United Kingdom of Portugal, Brazil and Algarves could have existed for some more time and maybe be a great power.

Fun fact: in our war of independence, we had our brazilian Mulan. Her name was Maria Quitéria, and was prohibited to serv in the army and fight for independence; so, she disguised herself as a man and fought. She was even recognized by Pedro I himself!

Fun Fact about José Bonifácio: Before going to Brazil he was a chemists and mineralogist at the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences and he discovered three new minerals while there, Andradite (named after him), petalite and spodumene. And would be in petalite that later swedish chemists would discover lithium.
