Nick's a bit cheeky about it but he's clearly into psychadelics; going off his lyrics and various twitter posts I'm going to say LSD, DMT and shrooms. Luke used to drink heavily and hinted at some sort of drug use, but he cleaned up, became more devout to his faith and now only drinks moderately. He's a former art student and very likely a fan of some Japanese visual rock bands and vaporwave aesthetics so I'm sure this plays into it as well.

I think "high" stands for good times, so he well be with her when she is happy. "Low" represents bad times, when she suffers, and he will be to support her there too. So basically this is a song about true love, but also freedom, letting the person who we love have some space for herself, enjoying time the way she wants, not being clingy, intrusive, suspicious or even jealous when it comes to other people... In other words trusting each other, being very close to each other, not just physically but also mentally. Great song. It's pretty deep for a hit song, isn't it?

empire of the Sun are absolutely brilliant. this song And video are outstanding. they are future pop at its finest. I love their look and I love all of their songs. this tune is very catchy, melodic. they really deserve to have a big hit here in the USA, right now.

+cherylw1958 empire of the Sun has already had two big international top ten hits, "we are the people" hit #1 in Germany, #2 Austria and top 40 in over 12 international markets. so the only place they haven't had a big hit is here in the USA. they recently charted on the billboard pop chart with, "walking on a dream" only got to #65 :( the song was widely played on a tv ad for a car.
