In 1704, Sweden's military might stretched from the Baltic to West Africa, where their fleet crushed pirates off the Ivory Coast. However, storm clouds gathered as Swedish agents met suspicious deaths in Russia, Austrian forces seeking to curb Swedish dominance in the Baltic advanced on Gdańsk, and Courland erupted in rebellion. The uprising in Courland proved particularly costly - though Swedish forces under Lewenhaupt ultimately prevailed at the Battle of Jelgava, the victory came at the terrible price of two generals' lives. Von Schlippenbach fell leading a cavalry charge, while Kroniort was cut down by enemy horsemen, leaving Lewenhaupt as the sole surviving commander. Even as Sweden reasserted control over Courland, Karl XII made the audacious decision to strike deep into Polish-Lithuanian Belarus, despite being isolated in Lithuania with a battered army. His Rikskansler, Lord Johan, scrambled to marshal resources, ordering new trade ships built and dispatching Lewenhaupt's cavalry to hunt down Russian Cossack raiders threatening Swedish supply lines. As Austrian troops menaced Gdańsk and Karl XII gambled everything on his Belarus campaign, Lord Johan's words hung heavy in the air: "It is well that war is so terrible, otherwise we should grow too fond of it." Yet across the warming fields of the Baltic, Sweden's veterans stood ready to prove once again why all of Europe had learned to fear the thunder of Carolean drums. I believe that by setting combat difficulty to very hard, the enemy just has an unfair buff. I recall seeing something on the PUA discord which recommends you lower the difficulty for a more balanced and fun experience since very hard isn’t meant to be the go to difficulty setting.
