I am 60 plus years old and my first job was in a grocery store at $3.15 and I was damn glad to get it. But I too have been working on lawn mowers since I was about 8 years old. After I decided to leave the grocery store I went to work at a small engine shop, then onto a Honda motorcycle dealership where they sent me to school for training and it didn't cost me a dime. I would consider myself blessed that I got an education that I didn't have to pay for and I have been working on lawn equipment my whole life. And I'm always busier than a one-legged man at an ass-kicking contest. But I don't complain because I know that everything I touch is my responsibility and it doesn't leave the shop unless it's correct. Hopefully some young person will come along and be interested in learning but I wouldn't hold my breath. Good luck.

And you will be the 1 making $100k a year at 20 while 35 year olds are still demanding a higher minimum wage to deliver pizza so they can feed their 10 kids and other 20 year olds cry they cant get a job.

i charge $160 an hour plus mark up on parts and still get tips. Forget college and just start mowing lawns and fixing mowers in your garage. Even if you just charge $30 or $40 an hour starting to get more experience and get faster and build a reputation. You can get $40 for mowing a small yard. hell i was getting 15 or 20 in early 90s to mow neighbors yards when i was your age. Your tools you can write off on taxes if or when you file income taxes.

He advertises his auto shop and towing company on facebook last couple years. So you would think he dont need trained to fix a lawn mower. And If he does need trained then he aint worth no $40 an hour. He needs to pay me $200 an hour to train him. or hes in the wrong business and needs to go back to mcdonalds

I’m in the trucking biz and to find good mechanics you have to offer a good above average wage and things like Health insurance and uniforms at no cost and if on call after hours a service truck that he takes home that he can stock with his hand tools . I have four like that been with me for years .

yeah people say its my fault for not training them. I cant spend 5 years training every single employee for free. I got bills and rent and need food. I need a living wage. And another you tube channel just said in a video today a living wage is $250k a year. Ok they can pay me $250k a year and pay my health care if they want me to teach them how to fix lawn mowers for the next 5 years. otherwise go dig in the trash for stuff to fix and practice at home like i did. or join the military. and yeah everyone says corporations dont pay what employees are worth. no employees over value themselves. If employees were worth what they claim they be owning and running those companies instead of begging for jobs. thanks for watching and commenting. I just been screwing around with youtube with some friends for several years but welcome all the new subs and hope to hear more from you guys.

oh and they sign contracts saying I dont have to pay them for stuff not done right or completed. 2 push mowers came back today he didnt finish. its official. He has no pay for his 2 days cause not 1 thing done right. He couldve had $1500 1st week and didnt start til tuesday. Now he's paying me to fix his shit this weekend. Or im getting paid for repairs he overlooked in his greedy hurry. working with him was like working for a greedy corporation. he had corporate greed. shit work and overcharge customers. He wanted to charge $450 on a push mower after I already worked an hour and fixed it he just had to put it back together for 15 min. but he kept forgetting stuff and had to take it back apart and start over. Not my fault. cant charge customer extra cause you got corporate greed and forgot something.

I dont know you but ran across your channel and saw this. How qualified are the new employees your hiring? Do they have experience with small engine equipment? Do you test them before you hire them? I worked in the industry for 50 years. I have seen many come and go. Most young folks are unqualified for anything because the school system has failed them. They dont require students to put forth the effort and learn. They have taken shop classes away to replace them with computer learning. Cell phones replaced text books. Calculators are a dinosaur..You have to train them to do the job you want. Like training an animal for a pet..They are clueless and if you find one that knows something its a miracle. Good luck with your venture..Like my dad said if you want something done right do it yourself..I was lucky..I went to school to learn and applied myself and now retired..

This guy claimed to have years as auto mechanic and been working as machine maintenance at a factory. He advertises he buys and fixes and sells cars on Facebook and advertises he has a tow business but just loads cars on a flat bed utility trailer. So not too legit surely. But you are right. No one under 50 knows anything anymore. Employees expect companies to teach them to be auto tech or programmer or welder. Like that's what trade schools are for. Everyone wants to start at top dollar. Well go learn how to do the job before applying. Used to be we could start someone out at $5 an hour mowing lawns and let them work their way up. $20 an hour min wage now and got to pay 40 or more to get anyone, well they gonna be on contract and do job right or don't get paid unless they redo it. No extra pay for redos. They need to be experts now for that starting pay. Thanks for watching

@@SgtJoeSmith no one under 50 knows anything because older generations stopped teaching them anything. All skilled workers started as unskilled workers. But everyone's too high and mighty to hire someone who's not already an expert, so now they're hurting for decent employees

@@infidelcastro6687 no young people stopped wanting to learn. ive tried teaching 10000 people last 20 years. no one sticks around long enough to learn anything. the younger generation is all high and mighty and think they know it all. plenty of trade schools and community colleges and youtube videos if you really want to learn. thats how i learned. ill gladly teach anyone too. my labor rate is $200 an hour.
