Kaila and Leah talk to Dr Patricia Leahy-Warren about the different types of social support, parenting self-efficacy, the importance of breastfeeding, and how mothers can feel empowered during birth and the postnatal period.
Patricia Leahy-Warren is a Professor and Head of the School of Nursing and Midwifery at the University College Cork, Ireland. She holds registrations for general nursing, midwifery and public health nursing and has degrees at the undergraduate, postgraduate, masters and PhD level. Patricia’s research profile ranks her amongst the most successful researchers in the disciplines of both nursing and midwifery in Ireland, with an international reputation in the area of maternal and child health. She has published over 100 papers and book chapters, and has presented at over 100 international and national conferences and seminars. Patricia has been instrumental in producing a number of key national reports that have had significant impact on clinical practice and policy at Government level, from the blueprint of the Commission on Nursing in 1998 to informing the Community Nursing and Midwifery Strategy in the recent Sláintecare programme.
