You nailed it - watched a lot of videos of this thing being used and most demos aren’t exploiting its major feature - 2 channels / stereo. By taking the separate channels and coloring each individually you’ve really demonstrated how this box goes to a whole other level.

I think your Pitch Pong and your Ambient Bloops would be very useful to me. The Zoia seems really cool, but I'm really intimidated by its complexity. Even watching tutorials on how it works, it seems really hard to wrap your head around. I give people a lot of props for making cool sounds with it, but I'll probably give it a pass.
@thepedalzone4 жыл бұрын
Zoia isn’t for everyone. It can be pretty complex. It can also be pretty simple. It all depends on what you want from it. If you just want to set up a serial chain of effects on it like Modulation, Delay and Reverb, then that’s dead simple. If you wanna create elaborate synths or granular micro loopers, then it gets more complex. But every minute you invest into Zoia is worth it, in my book. Not only is it an inspiring tool to create with, but you also gain more knowledge and insight into how effects and synthesizers are actually made. I love Zoia so much 😊

Man, I've been waiting and hoping that you would get your hands on the Zoia! WOOT! I wonder how it compares to the Meris Enzo!
@thepedalzone4 жыл бұрын
You can’t really compare Zoia to any pedals. The quality of its sounds fully comes down to the abilities, creativity and algorithmic understanding of the patch creator. It’s really difficult to create guitar synth patches on it. There’s some nice ones on patch storage, but they aren’t as intuitive as Enzo. So if you’re just looking for a guitar synth, then definitely go for Enzo. If you’re looking for a box that can approximate the sounds of other pedals, and be a platform for your own sonic creativity, then Zoia is the answer.

What is the difference between a Boss SY-200 and Empress Zoia? I’m kinda torn which one to get. What is more sensible to articulate into a hybrid set up?
@thepedalzone Жыл бұрын
SY-200 is a dedicated guitar synth pedal, with a bunch of pre-made sounds that'll instantly turn your guitar into a synth. Zoia is a modular playground. It can be whatever you want it to be. It can be a multi-fx unit. A specialised custom effect. A synth. A Midi controller and much much more, but YOU have to create what you want from the ground up via the modules available in the unit. So Zoia has a really steep learning curve. If you want synth sounds, and you want a plug-and-play solution, then it's SY-200 all the way. If you on the other hand want to create sounds that you imagined and that you built, then it's Zoia.

I'm just getting to grips wit the BigSky and TC Triple Delay, so this always looked a step too far and also duplicated much of what the BigSky and Triple Delay do. This seems like a "must-have" on your pedalboard, but I would probably pass on it. I like to keep my pedalboard simple and this seems to be more complicated than I would like to get into. Sure there’s a need for other pedals. Zoia is more of a preset thing. It won’t give you the immediate hands-on-tweaking-on-the-fly that regular pedals do, if you suddenly wish to change some parameters. But Zoia is a fun platform for sonic explorations, that’s for sure.

Ha! I agree with ya brother! I was just being dramatic. But after watching your vid, this has moved into slot #1 on my GAS list. I am ready to dive into this wormhole!

Wow! Really nice atmospheric sounds/music! And the Zoia looks like the perfect companion to my Electribe2 synth..! Still... For that price, i will probably buy something else instead... Maybe later...

Happy you liked the sounds! I think the price of Zoia is more than fair. Zoia can become whatever you want. A custom-made effect specced out to accommodate your own dreams and needs. A multi-fx unit. A custom synthesizer. A generative ambience device. A drum machine. Or the best damn CV/MIDI controller on planet earth. I don't know. I'm pretty blown away by Zoia's endless potential. But I understand if it's too much for a lot of people. Hope you check it out sooner than later.

Go check out a chase bliss pedal then come back and say the zoia is too expensive lol

The one unit that is in dire need of a software editor... It sucks for figuring out where you went wrong if you screw up building a patch...

A software editor would definitely be a game changer for Zoia

Can one person play the Zoia with a midi keyboard, and another person play it as a guitar pedal at the same time?
