She's the best singer of my generation, hands-down. Her mother passed away shortly before they filmed this video, and she has stated that she was thinking about her mother during the entire shoot, which is one reason that the emotion is so strong. The tears are real, etc. It's a shame what happened to her when she got up the courage to call out all of the sexual abuse that was happening in Irish churches. She was absolutely dragged through the mud and shredded for trying to be a voice for the voiceless.

In fact, Sinéad's mother died in 1985, before she even released her debut album, The Lion and the cobra. Nothing Compares 2 U is from her second album, I do not want what I havent got, released in 1990, so it wasn't "shortly before they filmed this video". This song actually always reminded Sinéad of her mother and their rocky and unstable relationship. There are dozens of interviews in which Sinéad talks about her mom, and it's really heartbreaking to listen her story. And I do agree that the "business industry" really wrecked her career after she spoke out about the church and child abuse. But I think we should give props to her because she has continued releasing new music ever since. She never really stopped working, and maybe this year we'll have some new material.

@@jalopy2662 Absolutely. I used to have disdain for some songs just because of repetition. The radio has a history of destroying good songs or artists by overplaying their songs to the point of nauseum. Given how much Sinead bears her heart, its no surprise that you got the truth of her delivery and its a reminder of the awful paradox that great beauty is often created by artists who have a lot of pain and issues to resolve. She made that song famous!!! In 1990. Before that, it wasn’t a well known song. She said every time she sings it, she thinks of her mother (who passed away in a car crash in 1985) who abused her as a child. No matter how her mother treated her, she loves her and misses her so much. She ached for her mother’s love, and affection growing up. Her mother never showed her love, she beat the crap out of Sinead and her siblings. Most of Sinead’s songs, if not all, are very personal and emotional. She’s the most truthful and honest artist out there in the business. She’s my favorite singer, apart from Mercury. Screw those people who made her a pariah and completely chastised and ostracized her for telling the truth. Sinead, I will always love and support you!
