Thanks Gene for posting this. It was like going down memory lane for me. I had lots of those plastic reels when I was first getting into reel to reel recording in the early 1970s. I nicked my first machine from my dad, his old Akai M-8. The sound those plastic reels made when they didn't run true! I bought my first machine from a summer job I had in high school, a TEAC A-2340 with Simul Sync for the aspiring musician in me. Many decks and many years later I'm still a reel guy. My old tapes and plastic reels are stored away. These days I use 10 inch metal reels and buy new pancake reels of tape. But, ah, those plastic reels take me back to another time and place. Thanks for posting this video. 😎 J

There videos are more addictive than a good Netflix series. Great content and presentation Talking about tape and stuff. Is it expensive to import from the web shop to Europe, Norway 🇳🇴? Are you going to have some how to videos with maintenance machines and tapes?

nice coverage on the reels available. the plastic 10 NAB reels never seemed to run true.

I acquired several Scotch branded plastic 10 inch reels, 4 windows, with the trident hub versus NAB hub. I found them to not be well manufactured as I heard them wobble on the spindle. Fearing damage to the spindle and/or motor, I transferred the tape to metal reels. Now the plastic reels are hanging on the wall. Love the topics and information.

I am looking for a reel exactly like the one shown at 3:10. Do you have one for sale?

What was a few bucks to buy, idiots that think they got gold because it has "Akai" or "pioneer" try to sell a reel for $300 on ebay when the things are actually worth a few bucks. Worked in broadcasting and could bring these things home for free by that handfulls. Was able to buy the commercial decks for 2 track for $100-$300 a piece during the period when stations were moving from analog to computer. Well, general greedy know it all consumers discovered them and drove the price up into the thousands. Now for me to get what was cheap I have to know other engineers and get them about like drug dealers get their drugs under the table. There was no need for all this, as there was/is millions of these things. People hoarded them for cash to flip on ebay.
