Part II of the Resurrection of N14VM after sleeping in a hangar for 18 years. We are almost ready to start the engines bringing the Aerostar Superstar 700 back to life. Today's video features the gear swing, changing the tires, getting the turbos looked at to make sure they would spin freely and had oil getting to and through the bearings. We had to work on the wast gates a bit to get them freed up after sitting for so long. Another 3 hours of work or so and we will be ready to start the engines.

I maintained and annualed a 602P Machen Aerostar for a customer many years ago. Those engines are tucked into the wings so far back that you can't even replace the valve cover gaskets on the back two cylinders without lifting the engine out of its mounts. The aux hydraulic pump is a real chore to work on. The battery location in the tail cone is unusual too. I flew with him several times and could see both the fuel flow and airspeed from the co-pilots seat. Yes it is fast, if you can afford it, because it sure is thirsty Your Aerostar looks very clean. Best of luck with it..

A bit surprised the alternators were driven with a single belt. I have a 1985 Mercedes 300CD and the ALT has two belts. Just needs a dual pulley. Not a lot of added weight, but an important backup. I was lucky enough to fly N600AM, a 601P as I recall a handful of times in 1986. It had previously set the twin-piston around the globe speed record. I was a young buck just starting an aviation career and to me, the AStar was like an SR71 or the Space Shuttle. I loved it. I managed to get an airline job but EVERY time I see an Aerostar it turns my head and makes me smile. Anxious to see the next vid.

The Aerostar is an amazing aircraft, this one is an amazing find. It has been amazingly well cared for even though it has sat for so many years. All of us have been quite pleasantly impressed with every turn of a wrench. I am proud to be a part of this process.

Thank you Eric sooo much for this content! I cannot explain how valuable it is for me! I want to know everything about AeroStar. I want to own it. I must own it. It's difficult to explain. I didn't choose AeroStar. It choose me. I am one of souls for these planes. This love, this connection, it makes me searching all tech info for this plane. And you answer my prayers. Thank you so much!

Loving this!! Every hangar queen, stored for decades I ever hear about and my LAME’s usually tell me to run a mile, some of these old girls are worth grabbing though.

Really happy to see that top tip for the spinners using aluminum deoxidizer and metal polish. Have been messing about with other stuff for a while now. My 601P will look great. Thanks.

Nice airplane project. I've flown Aerostars back in the 80's, and they are fun to fly, but you do pay the price for the noise of the props inches from the cabin. Not my first choice twin to own or fly. My all time favorite is the Cessna 421 that is a joy to fly.

The 72" short props vs the standard 78" make a huge difference. The pressurized A*'s are much quieter than the non pressurized ones.

These project updates are better than waiting for the next episode of Dexter. Your IA, Kurt is a great interview. Sam needs to relax and enjoy himself more. You’ve gathered a great team.. kudos to you Eric.

This is great Eric and I commend you for tackling a worthy bird to revive. I myself would be interested to see/hear you and the guys elaborate on the Aerostar design and systems. Would be a convenient time while items like the "176 panel" are exposed for discussion. Thanks!

I couldn't find Part 1 so I'm curious. With the expense of these Lycoming 540's, was a pre-oil scenario applied? Also, on many engine applications I'm able to turn the oil pump using a remote-type mechanism attached to a drill in order to prime the pump, establish oil pressure (via the guage), and establish oil flow volume. It just seems odd to spin a dry engine simply to determine oiling parameters.

Part 1 is in the list of videos. Both these engines had been filled to above the cam with jack oil. We spayed quite a bit of fogging lube into each cylinder to make sure the cylinder walls and rings were lubed. This was pretty standard procedure according to Aerostar and our A&P. After we got oil pressure on the gages we pulled the oil line off each turbo down stream from the bearings to make sure we were getting flow through the turbos. All was good.

How do you get the rear jugs off if only those cylinders need replacement, looks like the whole engine has to come out??

You can do it by removing some items then lifting and moving the engine forward a bit with an engine hoist.
