I love when people use the argument against a $15 minimum wage by saying "oh, so a burger-flipper should make as much as an EMT?" Fuck no, a burger-flipper should make enough to maintain their life. An EMT should make WAY THE FUCK MORE than $15/hr.
@DarkBunnyLord
@DarkBunnyLord Жыл бұрын
@tbonbrad 1) That’s Horseshit because min wage was literally created to be the min someone needed to survive. Inflation has been happening regardless and the average buying power of a min wage worker has dropped even though when you raise min wages those people invest that money right back into the economy by spending it. Stop blaming people surviving on bread crumbs while those up top take the whole cake As for automation if you honestly thought stagnating min wage workers into poverty would stop that then I have a bridge to sell you.
@kevinspacey5325
@kevinspacey5325 Жыл бұрын
just make minimum wage $100 hr, and see what happens. You have no idea how economics work. OR maybe stop flipping burgers, get a real job, and move out of your parents house. I did it at 18.
@DarkBunnyLord
@DarkBunnyLord Жыл бұрын
@@kevinspacey5325 If min wage kept up with inflation it would be 26$ an hour. Why is it reasonable to expect employees to be unable to live yet support your business working full time? The suggestion that people are just lazy and should just get better jobs is preposterously stupid of you. First off many min wage jobs aren’t lazy. Second there simply aren’t and never will be enough jobs for everyone to “just get better jobs”, min wage jobs make up a vast portion of the labor market and their spots are necessary for society to function. If your buisiness requires someone to labour full time then they should be compensated enough to have shelter over their head and food in their belly full time and if you the employer are incapable of providing the literal bare minimum for survival then you aren’t qualified to run a business. Exploitation of people simply because you don’t view their position as skilled enough is not okay, and if you truly don’t value another persons basic survival needs enough to fill your spot then do it yourself.

@@DarkBunnyLord funny, when that 15 an hour hit here in cali, my production shop laid off a bunch of low paid employees and replaced them with autofeed machines. I saw it first hand. I sat there and laughed knowing most of those workers voted for that. You can't cheat economics. Again, this age old theory still beats any argument you morons have. . . . Make min wage $100 an hour. But wait I hear you shouting "that's too much" . . . .Why? Because your feelings tell you that? In the end, I would just be making 3X that pay and everything would skyrocket in price putting us all back at square one with massive inflation. Think before you open your mouth.

@@DarkBunnyLord $26 USD and hour? Oh wow. That's really cute. So if a lowly worker was making $26 an hour at my shop, I would be demanding $100 an hour? The ones who can't do it themselves and they expect you to do it for then while they get paid way more than you do. That is the grand conspiracy that is going on im the world. We spend all of our time and energy supporting idiots instead of helping each other because we are so frustrated from serving the idiots instead of the people. The idiots need humiliation and way more of it. We need to stop allowing them them be glorified and use every opportunity we can to bring them down a notch as their idea of themselves is completely imaginary and so is their authority. They need to come to that realization or none of this gets better as none of us can make enough money until the idiots realize they have enough and if they want more they have to participate just like everyone else.

It’s insane that for a job which is considered essential by so many, it’s almost become standard to work 60-80 hours a week for so many just to get by. These people aren’t living extravagant lives or dealing with a crippling shopping addiction or something, they’re just trying to support a moderate quality of life for a family of four. It’s absurd.

Medics, doctors, nurses take responsibility for a human life. They have to learn a lot of basics, gain knowledge and train to gain confidence to react properly in very stressful situations. I'm working as an engineer in healthcare facilities for 16 years and I already provided first aid on the street a lot of times. Most of the times I was the only one taking actions or leading the others because the others only had a 16 hours first aid crash course years ago (when making the drivers license) and didn't feel confident enough to put their hands on the patient.

Lots of people think they can do someone else's job like EMS, paramedic, firefighter, or law enforcement. That's until they get a small taste like when reporters or local officials try it. The honest ones will tell everyone it ain't easy. Be careful out there. Hope you and your family stay safe and well.

Im no firefighter/emt/paramedic, but i am currently studying safety and security management (i dont know if you have that too, but im dutch), and i could not agree more with what you just said. In my opinion its very, very bad to skimp out on indispensable services like the fd and pd. Also counts for military

It’s not just a opinion but honestly common sense, but there are places in the US that are cutting the budget of the FD or not paying their EMS a wage worth a damn compared to almost any other reasonable job. It’s usually the worst of people trying to “balance the budget” but as soon as a new tax comes around or time to increase the tax amount, they are all for it..

I do not blame your frustration. Reminds me of how people love to harp on teachers. They will pay 15 bucks an hour to have a baby sitter, but teachers are expected to watch, educate, nurture and a lot more in groups of up to 25+, even if they made 5 an hour per kid it would be paying them WAY more than they make currently. People love to judge and it is sad. Thank you for your continued service. 😊

In my short career I have seen how no matter what great protocols your assigned without great EMT/Paramedics being able to manage chaos, properly evaluate pts, and then determine/preform proper protocol and procedures members of our communities would suffer if not lose their life. I had to leave the job I love due to not being able to provide for my family the rent and food on the table because of inflation. I've been a career firefighter for 34 years. I've watched as many of my colleagues have died from rare forms of cancer, had lifelong illnesses and injuries and sadly, taken their own lives due to the demons that visited their dreams and have memories of experiences that people should ever have to see but still believe I have the best job in the world. We never joined the job thinking it would make any of us rich and knew that we would miss holidays with family, special occasions and probably lose the art of being able to sleep soundly ever again, but the looks on the faces of the people whose houses we managed to save, the people we cut out of car wrecks in one piece and the families of patients who were lucky enough to have our crews provide medical intervention and survive to live another day..... all makes it worthwhile. At the station with our other "families", we joke, mercilessly rib each other and generally have a laugh between the endless calls - that's icing on the cake. Only other firefighters (and other emergency response crews) understand that it is a job of incredible highs and despairing lows, but we support and care for not only the general public, but each other.... and that comradery is humbling.

He’s been doing voluntary work at the station for a couple of years now and has told me and my family all about the things that firefighters have to go through, and long story short, it’s not as easy or lazy of a job as it’s made out to be. I think EMT definitely deserves more pay. I’m looking to become a Game Warden myself but have always been interested in the career of a firefighter. YALL ALWAYS HAVE MY SUPPORT!!!

Most people arguing for a raised minimum wages are also arguing for higher wages for EMS. We all deserve to be able to afford to live regardless of our jobs. Prices for everything have gone up, but salaries haven't followed suit. This article was 100% written by the same kind of person saying things like "nobody should be fighting for fair pay for their labour" and that "if people are unhappy should just move to higher paid STEM fields". Talking poorly on fast food employees does nothing for us. We all deserve to be paid enough to survive and are in that fight for those wages together.

Allyonia my only concern for for what you just spent all of the typing that you just did is. If the minimum wage goes to $15 dollars an hour is. Where does that extra money come from. What about small business’. I love the idea of everyone earning more money an hour but what will happen is that prices WILL rise to pay for the extra money that they are paying.

My dad is a career firefighter, at one point one of the city councillors was suggesting that maybe their budget needed to be cut because they didn’t need what they were getting. Not two weeks later that same fire service showed up quickly and stopped their house from burning to the ground in the middle of the night while that councillor stood in their pyjamas in the front yard. I've always wanted to be a hero, and to save people. Today I turn 25 and can say that I have not pursued that dream at all. It's been my biggest regret in life so far. With my uncle getting ready to sell the family buisiness, I've been planning on joining the Army the last few weeks. My cousin told me combat medics don't spend as much time in the field as I thought they did, and so I had written it off as being lame. But this guy has convinced me. I'm gonna work my ass off to get in shape, and I'm gonna be a medic. If I manage to prevent just a single one of those house calls it'll be a dream come true. I don't know your name man, but you've been inspiring me to chase my dream again. Thanks bro.

I live in bumfrick NY and yesterday there was a head-on between a motor bike and a sedan (dodge avenger if you wanna know) and I love first responders. So when they brought two helicopters in and they landed in our schools parking lot I went to watch (I wasn't getting in their way, don't worry I was in the grass that was a little was away from the ambulance crews and other first responders). But just watching the 1st chopper leave after the second one lands really makes you think about what rescue personnel or first responders have to go through to get where they are. Most people think a helicopter landing is badass (cos it is), but its amazing to think that once they take off you think to yourself "They are gonna save a life" just really makes me (a 15 yr old) inspired to become a first responder. It's just amazing to be in the presence of life-saving workers and see them not panic in that moment, but rather watch them assess the situation and take that person knowing that they are injured and that there is a chance of death. I know that in their heads it's completely different than how they look on the outside. But it just astonishes me to see them do what they worked so hard for.

Medical protocols for smaller organizations are written by medics who do the research, determine the need, and figure out the practical deployment of the interventions. They are signed by the MDs who trust that the medics did their research. Protocols for larger organizations are written by people so far removed from their implementation and so concerned with liability and not patient care that the interventions are sometimes problematic. My favorite is the protocol on the “violent” patient. Usually it reads like this, “Secure patient to ensure their safety and that of responders. Administer (insert favorite sedative here) prn.” The most complicated call gets the most vague description. While gathering research for a crisis intervention training for my department I called the lawyer. Her attempt to dissuade me from doing this was, “My job is easier if you go to the hospital.” No lie. I told her I’d rather have my lawyer work harder than my doctor. Articles like that are wholly irresponsible as they are usually written by people who have some gripe. Of course there are assholes who work in this profession. Depending the hour/nature of the call and the frequency with which I have been running them, I can often be that asshole. But saying the person who is responsible for telling you your child has died in a car accident or will come to whatever emergency you have at any hour in any location deserves not to be paid a living wage is utter nonsense.

A daughter here of an EMT/ paramedic. (30 year careers) I find your channel hilarious!! My parents did lots of volunteering in our small town departments. They both had “ paid” jobs too. They were both amazing at their jobs. Right before my mom had to quit (health reasons) she got certified for the crew for Eldora speedway. ( car racing) That and careflight were her dreams. I say all that to say that the job doesn’t stop when they get home. My dad has PTSD and watching people die for 30 years is hard on you and the family. Some calls don’t go away. My mom’s friend never recovered after responding to a car fire. First responders will understand why without me going into details. Please talk about mental health and first responders. I hope there is more awareness and support now.

Hahaha, love that article. My gf used to be a basic EMT, in our state they make 13 an hour. She worked for various fire departments and private ambulances for about 3 years. If theres one thing I've learned they are overworked and underpaid. People should think, you really want the person who's saved your life and is transporting you to the hospital so they can keep you alive to hate their job cause they dont get paid well? Most of them will do it no matter the pay cause that's what healthcare workers and first responders love to do, but they should be compensated for that work. She estimated in those 3 years she was probably responsible for about 100 or so life saving events in several counties ranging from 50k to 200k population but remember, she made 13 an hour, worked about 72 hours most weeks and loved every second. Paramedics around here only make about 17 an hour for the increased responsibilities they're required to do. I can also say that a low educational standard is anything but true. Just like nurses they are required to take a state exam to ensure they're educated and capable of doing that job safely which is no small, easy exam, and like all healthcare related careers, adaptation of care is the name of the game. Things I learned my junior year of nursing school are already being challenged in my senior year and I can image what itll be like my first job, medics go through the same stuff. The major reason they are so limited on trucks is not cause of stupidity or laziness, it's cause of lack of space and equipment/medications, less hands, and less time to name a few

The one and only time I met EMS was when I was just a bystander. We had called the cops bc a fight broke out in our neighborhood, late at night, and there were a couple of women fighting too and one of them was very pregnant. The cops and ems were impressive, bc they were polite, professional, and exactly the ideal of what you want to come out to help when you’re scared and you don’t know what to do. Just bc our first responders are human and live life just like us, doesn’t mean we can’t continue to hold them up high where they belong. If they fall down, put ‘em right back up there. That’s where they go. Put them up there. And the pregnant woman was taken care of, bc ems got there with the cops.
