Loved doing this! Bike weight is 24.5KG (forgot to add that part to the vid!) have been riding the bike and it’s great!! Can’t wait to share the next vid. Also to add I am NOT suggesting this is the best way to go about getting an ebike!! It’s a LOT of work to do it this way. Lots of tools, time and patience.

Very interesting project Rob - well done, and like many others who have commented I'm interested to see how this stands up to punishment, and I agree with your comments about the Deore drivetrain - I've been running Deore cassettes on my Focus Jam2 for the last couple of years with no problems. I got 1600 miles out of one cassette and chain combo, and only replaced them because it seemed like I should - they still worked fine! The current set is on about 1000 miles at the moment with no issues. I'm quite interested by many of the comments regarding Chinese quality. Not all manufacturers will be up to scratch for sure (but that's the case everywhere, even here in the UK). I design products for a Chinese manufacturing company who supply Domestic Lighting, to US, UK and various other markets. Obviously these are safety critical items and subject to stringent testing and certification, in a similar way to the testing that would be required for a bike frame. In our factory we manufacture for some rather top end retailers and we also make stuff at the lower end of the price scale for Walmart!! Same production lines, same staff, same Design, R&D and sampling dept., same process, work flow management, testing and QC broadly speaking. Different customers do have slightly different requirements, but they all follow the required legislation. It's usually the materials, and components that are specced that makes the most difference to the perceived quality and price of the product. I would imagine that this is a very similar scenario in the bike manufacturing industry. I don't know if Dengfu are an OEM manufacturer for any big brand cycle companies? In our industry, by having long standing relationships and working closely with branded and trusted retailers we've learnt good practice over the years, so if a Chinese frame manufacturer has similar relationships they would also benefit from this, and they should therefore be able to offer a quality product on a direct basis. However, some Chinese manufacturers will cut corners if they are off loading goods into the domestic market or just shipping stuff out directly to end customers, so potential home builders should do their research and proceed with both eyes open and at the same time be aware that the money saved is probably a good proportion of what brands charge in order to be able to achieve brand confidence through customer support, replacement parts, warranties etc.

The bike looks great, and looked quite intuitive build wise. Will say been wishing we might see a shift away from hard wired lights an turning lights on bikes, as some companies can put pretty low grade lights on them, and a switch to having some usb ports on the bike frame. I say this as many lights have usb connectors it seems, allowing us to choose what light we enjoy the most, and still run it off the battery of the bike over buying a battery we need to fit on the bike. Put on some covers to hide the ports when not in use, and even the companies having their own lights you can use built for the bikes they sell an it would be a nice change.

Have assembled 2 of these E10 Dengfu frames with both having done over 2,000kms so far. I used the M600 motor which is rated at 750w peak. I also got the carbon wheels, stem, headset and handlebar direct from Dengfu. These are great bikes and you typically only use assist level 1 or 2. The range on the battery is around 80kms as long as you don't use too much assist. Purchased spare batteries as well. My brother & I have ridden trails all over New Zealand. Rob's approach in using a mid level mech set is spot on. All E-enduro bikes are hard on gear so replacement cost of cassettes etc needs to be reasonable. Get XT 4 pot brakes though and good front and rear suspension. My guidance is not be frightened of Dengfu frames. I found the company great to deal with and am currently ordering 2 more for friends.

Now the video is great, but a lot about the painting part; some of us probably need more info about the EVERYTHING installation. I m reading your build thread but I garantee you that a specific video to HOW TO assemble evrything on this frame will be very very very useful (for me in any case). In case, thx in advance

Not necessarily, it’s all about the perspective. I’m not an electric mtb pro or anything but I’m relation to the prices of other electric mountain bikes, this is definitely “cheap”. Maybe putting cheap in quotations would be more fitting.

Great looking bike. I don't know what it is but that feeling you get when something you built/put together works and performs is amazing. Also it's much more satisfying then just going out and buying a bike off the shelf. I do think if you was more budget friendly you probably could of built that bike for a lot less. I will say vids like this are good to see as it might encourage other riders of ebikes or analogue bikes to convert or build an ebike
