Remember that most proctors will want you to not just say that you're going to do something, actually do it! They want to see that you're able to perform the tasks, so if you say you would check lung sounds, actually check lung sounds and say that they are whatever they are and the proctor will correct you with the finding in the scenario.

I love these videos. They're very helpful. I just wanted to clarify; The O-Onset should actually be asking "What were you doing when you started to have the discomfort? Instead of asking "When did you start experiencing the discomfort?" This is important because O-Onset is different from T-Time. With O-Onset we are trying to figure out what could have caused the shortness of breath. With T-Time we want to know when exactly did it start. Now for P-Provocation the gentleman in this video asked what he should have asked for O-Onset. P-Provocation should be does anything make your breathing better or worse? Next is Q-Quality which is a description of the pain such as sharp pain or pressure pain. Next is S- Severity which is exactly as he stated: rate the discomfort on a scale of 1-10, ten being most intense and one being least intense? Now I believe the gentleman in the video skipped over R-Radiation which asks does the pain move from its original region to anywhere else in the body? Typically it is not asked with shortness of breath alone but a good question to ask should be, is there any pain associated with the shortness of breath? And of-course T-Time is last which is when did the discomfort begin or about how long ago? Hope this helped :)

@smc46005 жыл бұрын
I had to assist with a total of 5 patients but the first 10 hour shift was so slow I only got 2 patients so I had to go back for a second shift. However, my first call I rode on was a code, and it came in as soon as I arrived to the station. Boy was it hell as we got called out for a fall victim and then she went into cardiac arrest about 2 minutes after we got there. The husband was insulting the lead medic, and making his life hell and all he was doing was trying to help. What a welcome to EMS that was! It kind of made me rethink what I want to do with my life. I’m about to take my final exams in the next couple weeks, and I really want to be a certified EMT, because it can open so many doors. But I’m on the fence as to whether or not I want to do this as a full time career, or as a volunteer. You really got to have a passion for this type of work. Never-mind the unresponsive patient, they can’t scream at you! It’s the family watching you work that you gotta watch!!!!

Once you get through testing you'll end up needing to find your flow of things in the real world. Some people will be short of breath and you'll want to try and fix that before asking a million questions (or get them out of the environment if that's a cause). Others will be unconscious, and you'll need to worry more about head injuries / if they fell, witnessed vs unwitnessed? Just try to relax and get through the tests, your preceptor will guide you once you get into the field. Good luck!

Signed up for 6-months of EMT-B on the website. Love the site and videos! NREMT for me isn't for about 162 days, but it's never to early to get prepared! I'm working at Starbucks until I get my Basic then I'm going for a private service until I finish Paramedic in two years.
