Can't Stop Dancin', originally by Captain and Tennille, as performed on the fourth episode of Emu's All Live Pink Windmill Show (3rd August 1984). From an entertainment standpoint, it's a fun rendition. From a technical point of view, it's a marvel to watch. Just think of all the things that could have gone wrong! Remember: this is live television. Nowhere to hide; no second chances. Not only do the Pink Windmill Kids pull off the dance flawlessly, but you get to see how well-drilled the crew had to be, too. You don't often think about the logistics of getting from A to B in a studio, but everyone (dancers and camera operators) nails their job with military precision. If I had been the director or floor manager of this show, I'd have been in a permanent state of having kittens. But this clip alone is a real credit to all involved. Who'd be mad enough to commission a live show that did this sort of thing at such speed nowadays?

My favourite example of this is at 0:46 you can see Anthony making a mad dash for it in the background. Sad as I am, I've actually tried the same with the four cameras, too! It sounds mad to say it, but this really is a phenomenal piece of live television.

I completely agree. For a piece of live kids' TV from 1984, this must have been hugely technically challenging and the end result is utterly superb. From the director's planning of each shot, the floor manager keeping it all together, the cutting from shot to shot in the control room (note the perfectly timed cut-away from the group to allow Anthony to do his mad dash at 0:46) and the four trundling and bulky cameras always being perfectly positioned. The shot from the studio floor towards the audience (1:52) must have been difficult to pull off with such crucial timings and I hold my hat of to the frantic cable pullers so the cameras could get back into position for the finale.
