You can't make quick adjustments by doing this method. Your arms are locked and you can't change the steering quickly. Push pull is king. It allows immediate change at any point.

A quarter to 3 is a better position. The reason? If the airbag was to burst the idea is you won't get your arms flying out to the side after being smashed by the airbag. A quarter to 3 hypothetically means the airbag will go "through" your arms not hitting them as the AB deploys. Try both positions and see what best suits.

i'm not sure if it's just a regional thing, but in America they actually changed the proper hand positioning to 9 and 3. I'd been told 10 and 2 all my life, and failed the question on my written exam.
@drivingtestaustralia Жыл бұрын
10 and 2 or 9 and 3. Both are acceptable. Because in both positions, your hands are right in front of your body and not in a weird position. The truth is that the driving examiners don't even care if you are holding the steering wheel in a 10 ad 2 or 9 and 3, as long as you can control the steering wheel and ultimately the car.

I watched the video with interest as I've been driving for about 3 years. Turns out I acquired at least one bad habit, but I guess that is inevitable... For example holding the wheel on the 7 and 5 positions. Its much more comfortable when on a long road with no turns. It compromises my ability to make sharp turns and I realize that, but when you are on a highway for hours it makes no sense to keep my hands up. When I make 90 degree turns in the city I turn "correctly", so yey i guess :)

Most of the things he designated as mistakes are not mistakes. Driving instructors make these things up all the time. Proper technique is the one you feel comfortable, whatever you do. If you feel you’re in control and things flow smoothly, then there’s nothing wrong with it.
@yihaw149Ай бұрын
@@analog9439 true. I think the instructor are teaching students to pass the driving test. As long as you passed, drive however you want, as long as it's safe.

when using the push and pull technique, is it acceptable to drag a hand to lower on the steering wheel before turning to allow for a smoother 'push' with that hand as you turn? For example, before turning right, dragging your left hand down to the bottom of the steering wheel and pushing with that hand, turning the wheel to the right. If this is acceptable, how far down can I put my hand?
@drivingtestaustralia11 ай бұрын
Yes acceptable. As long as you maintain a proper control of the steering wheel and the vehicle, and your hands are not in an awkward position that limit their movement, you're good

Oh no nothing is stupid. This is what is called "bad habits". Even if you use a wrong technique to turn the steering wheel, you manage to turn it somehow without running into any problems over time. For someone who starts learning to drive, it's best to learn the proper ways of doing it.
