(They changed it to 16years in the drama because they changed the events leading to WY's death) The non-canon comments you saw were probably for the line "问灵十三载，等一不归人” (rough trans: enquiring the spirits for 13years, waiting for one that will not return) that was written by a fan of the novel (not actually a line from the novel), but the fact that it fits in so well was what made the fans use it as a catchphrase of sorts
