L is seven years older than Light. In the anime, L was born in 1982 and Light was born in 1989. So L is not a student, but he enrolled in To-oh University in order to observe Light/Kira on campus. And Light wouldn't recognize L's voice from the TV, because L used a voice filter then. I love your reactions and I'm looking forward to seeing you react to the rest of the series. Onche518 He hasn’t taken any unreasonable leaps, though. Arguably the biggest leap he took was in considering the fact that he was dealing with someone who’s killing via supernatural means. But even then, under the circumstances it was pretty obvious.

I firmly believe L is much more intelligent than Light and does profiling incredibly well, Light just thinks faster on his feet and is very adaptive. This was such an awesome move to just get under Lights skin.

Example: there is 2 students who both have to get all A’s. 1 of the students is not gonna be given anything as a reward, while the other is promised 20 dollars.
