You can say what you want about the movie, but it got the atmosphere and the visuals *perfectly* , the street cut off, the obscuring fog, the gritty decaying surrounding... Rose is also a refreshingly smart, witty and relatable character, most of the time keeping on even when all the odds are against her in such atrocious surrounding, and then nearly giving up that one time - a real human moment. It's a decently written story, with continuity that, while not perfect, modern movies can but dream of, and never come close to accomplishing. It's also, among all the disturbing stuff, a heart touching drama somehow, with such a heartbreaking ending. It really is, a well done movie. I do my best to pretend that the sequel has never existed.

Based on how that phone shown in 1:46, must be the early 2000s because my first time hearing that term Silent Hill is when I watched Goosebumps way back in the 90s. Name of the episode is Headless Ghost. At the end, the cops said to the kids how can there be a tour if that house had been out of business? So way back in the 90s, cops did not believe in supernatural monsters until the early 2000s. If you love Silent Hill, the movie Goosebumps also have Silent Hill stories as well.

@slickboyist5 ай бұрын
In my opinion, It's a lot more realistic than a good cop just blowing something away because it doesn't LOOK human at first lmao. This scene was actually done with practical effects with an actor literally inside of a fleshy bodysuit. Imagine how many pranksters would be instakilled by cops if they dressed up like a monster and the cop instantly took it at face value as a literal monster and shot their ass. When you believe that monsters don't exist, are you going to risk as a cop murdering some prankster civilian? When it shoots the acid is when it's confirmed as a threat human or not.
@RogueDragon054 ай бұрын
It would be pretty boring if people just immediately jumped ship from reality. People in the theater know they came to see a monster movie, but the actors aren't supposed to be in on that fact. They need to struggle abit with the fact that the reality they knew isn't there anymore otherwise it would be unbelivable in a completely different way.
@albertocruzado28993 ай бұрын
I would say this is not even close to the worst example. Its a cop that the movie present as quite heroic, still trying to determine what she is looking at. Way back in the 90s, the first time I heard of a term Silent Hill is when I watched Goosebumps. I would encourage you to watch Goosebumps because that 1 episode called Headless Ghost have a story that takes place in Silent Hill. One of the reasons i hate TWD is how they underused Laurie Holden in that show, after we saw what a badass she can play in Silent Hill. She's such a good actress and could have been one of the best TWD characters, but they assasinated her characters personality and then her character. The whole show could have gone another way, after the comics have became stale and kinda nonsensical, but they chaged the wrong parts.

I agree, not only in this movie did she convincingly play a formidable yet vulnerable cop, in another one of her movies she made earlier called The Majestic (an underrated movie which I'd recommend) she did an excellent job as an ambitious American Dream waifu that added an idyllic quality to the otherwise bizarre situation Jim Carrey's character was in. But in The Walking Dead out of all the things she could've been they just had to have her play the village idiot, and from that point on she hasn't been taken seriously as an actress.

I love that Return to Silent Hill was given to this director again. If I recall, they would literally play Silent Hill 1 & 2 in order to keep as close to the lore and world elements. Even when they made adaptations because certain game elements don't work for film, he wanted to keep it as close to the source material as he could. What sucks is that this took so damn long and that it doesn't look like we will get the original cast. If not for the mess that was the 2nd movie, if only this would have received a proper sequel, I'm sure we wouldn't have had to wait so damn long for the studio to just wind up giving Gans the role as Director again. Either way hopes he puts the same amount of love into the next film, hope it gets the love it deserves because the cast and crew damn well cared for this film and it shows.

better than modern horror movies.

I didn't notice anyone referring to the unexpected ending of this movie. This movie has one of the most shocking endings ever for that genre. To be honest, I'm not into that genre, but that ending was shocking, not seen since Carrie.

Loved Officer Cybil's character...hated how sucky things went down for her later in the film :(

What happened to Cybil reminds me of "The Wicca Man".

That’s stupid, yeah runaway from the only person that has a gun that would protect you and the only person that has the key for the handcuffs still on you.

Psalms 34:21 at 4:36. I was not expecting to see that in a Silent Hill movie.

This movie is gold. The cop is Laurie Holden from Canada. I am also from Canada.

Rhada Mitchell is amazing. Her Hot Blonde in Pitch Black is just over the top. She does it again in Silent Hill.

Imagine the level of fear coursing through your veins as you run blindly into the fog, hands cuffed behind your back, knowing and witnessing an evil unnatural creature spit acid at your comrade.

I remember playing Silent Hill when it first came out, happy days. Thank you.

If you watched Goosebumps, there is a 1 episode called Headless Ghost. That 1 episode took place in Silent Hill. So even in the 90s era, you still get to see the Silent Hill stories. Only exception is supernatural beings stayed hidden from the government officials in the Goosebumps stories but in this Silent Hill movie, no supernatural beings stay hidden, not even from cops.

@@hp2546 Interesting, thank you. My daughter used to read Goosebumps, she may recall the Headless Ghost 👻☺.

@@HzHz Just remember that reading Goosebumps novel is not the same as watching them on tv. In the novel, when the kids got out of a Hill House, the kids were stopped by the cops. The cops said to the kids, what were you doing in the Hill House. The kids said we had a tour. The cops said how can you be having a tour in that Hill House if that place had been out of business and closed down for 3 months. So kind of weird that back then in the 90s, ghost only make their appearance to scare only the kids and only stay hidden from government officials. So novels are different from movie because in the movie, the kids were chased by a ghost and then that same ghost gave a tour to a next tourist.

@@hp2546 I don't ever watch tv so have never watched it, I have never read the book, same with my daughter we are book readers, she probably will have read the book however. I used to play games on the Play Station which is why I know about Silent Hill. There is a thing called predictive programming which seems to be running through books, music and tv programmes. The Simpsons seems to be a favourite for this. Making a movie ad verbatim about a book would probably be impossible as we all visualize & have a different interpretation of things. Nice chatting with you 😊.

@@HzHz Unless you count the youtube videos, then you can count that as watching a movie. Just like you can comment here. If you can comment, you can also watch movies on your youtube video. Watching movies in this current time era do not have to mean use your tv when you have your own computer and you have access to youtube. So even Goosebumps is where you can watch that 1 episode on youtube. If you watch at least in youtube channel, then you have a power to claim you watched the movie. Just like you viewed this Silent Hill movie on this youtube channel and comment on it, you can do the same with Goosebumps. Your youtube channel in this current time era is your tv now.

I loved thr movie. They were very close to the games. I can ignore that they didn't understand (or cared) that the enemies are a representation of the victims fears/trauma. So seeing James monsters here doesn't make that much sense. Well still very good movie
