That's probably the last wood which most people would make a cutting board from but it came out nicely and I am glad that you filled the gaps with epoxy resin because it would have been full of gaps if you just left it alone 😲 but you did a good job of it 👍 Lastly though, next time you make one like this then when sanding I recommend scribbling pencil all over the board before each sand and it's ready to move on to the next grit when you cannot see the pencil lines 😀👍 so starting around 40 grit, then pencil the board all over and change the sand paper to 80 grit then pencil and change to 120 grit, then 150, then 180 and finally finish it at 220 grit, it will take you a lot of sanding unless you are lucky enough to own a wide table belt sander but it'll be worth it 😀👍 then spray it with water or lightly dip it in water and then let it air dry to raise the grain otherwise it will feel rough after the first time you wipe it with a damp cloth then sand it one more time at 220 grit then you will be finally good to pour some food grade oil on your board and some beeswax and rub it in with a cloth before drying it off with a dry cloth to buff it up and air dry it and it'll be good to go 😁👍

whilst the end result i think looks great. Just a couple of things to consider whenever making a chopping board. When it comes to pallet wood you firstly have to make sure that any wood you use has not been chemically treated or used to carry potentially hazardous items. Secondly you need to make sure the glue you use is food safe wood glue. Like i say though, the end result came out really well, just be careful if planning to make to sell.

Hi Mark, thank you for the advice. All the pallets were heat treated and lft aside to dry to remove any moisture potentially still present. I also made sure to check and glues/resins would be food safe when dry, but yes certainly important things to consider for the future. This actual example is used merely as a display piece for my uncle, but glad you liked the final result! All a fun learning experience

please take care where your pallets come from. Some chemical addivitves may cause cancer! I'd never use pallet wood for something that touches food. Use it for upcycling furniture or outdoor decotration but please never put your food near to it!

Lose the tie, it's a safety hazzard. Also would not recommend making a chopping board out of pallet wood. Never know what has been spilled on that wood in the past. Otherwise I think it looks great.

Very good advice on loosing the tie... It could be a safety one, with only a clip instead of around the neck...

It's nice, but way too much work for the results. Unless you are a hobbyist who's retired or wealthy.

I agree, was my first time making one and certainly learnt a lot from the experience to make the process far more streamlined and error free. Certainly won't stop me making more in the future though! Thanks for watching though and for the feedback
