Different eyecolours is called "geterochromy". And yes. this song is like a curse to the enemy. There are quite a lot of beliefs connected to witches in Ukraine, E.g. when the russians were in Konotop they were told they'll loose their male power since they've stepped to Ukrainian land. And when those russians told that they've come here to stay forever (meaning this would be their land), they've agreed (meaning they'll stay here as buried corpses forever). And i also have to mention that here the world "witch" doesn't have that negative colouring like in Western Europe. The original word "vidyma" is from older slavik word "vidaty" - meaning "to know". So originally they're more like daughters of nature, knowing it the best - they can heal, they can curse, they can make the land fertile, they can make it waste etc. And you know what they say - every woman is a witch, but some of them hide it well :)

А коли вбивають /росстрілюють стару людину, котра повертається з аптеки... просто з танку росстрилюють разом з авто.. нізащо... мого сусіда отак росстріляли.. Actually English word witch has probably different evolution path then Ukrainian vidMa (vida from Sanskrit means Vedas holy books of God which finally means: to know) and second part Ma naturally means mother. So Ukrainian equivalent of the witch is Mother who knows everything and who poses mystical and all powers because she knows everything.

Hi. I want to suggest song, which was written long time ago before full-scale invasion. The song was written by former female soldier who fought in Donbas in 2014-2015. She retired because of health issues and in 2016 started to write music. I have looked through the comments and I wanted to note some aspects that seemed not discussed. Ukrainians do traditionally have this mystic view of life. It gets mixed even into the traditions linked to celebrations for Orthodox church. For instance, in the clip itself you could see painted eggs traditionally made for Easter - usually very intricate ones, as a rule meaning protection and faith. Jumping over the fire - traditions of Ivana Kupala in summer. The poem mentions also things holy in the tradition - land, rye, children, obviously. So every picture in the video brings associations to the Ukrainian viewer.

Throughout centuries, our folklore was tightly bound with the strong beliefs in God, as well as in different spirits prior to the Christianity (up to 9th century), but the only thing that fairly changed was the belief, that Ukrainian women hold extraordinary powers, hence are witches. It wasn't sth to be ashamed of necessarily, it wasn't sth to be particularly proud of, either. There are even regions, where the witches are supposed to be stronger. So it's not just a random curse song, it actually represents hundreds of years of authentic history, whilst, of course, cursing ruscist invaders throughout decades of their atrocities towards Ukrainian.
