Wow …been watching Latoyas vlog from Day1 and it’s only now that the house is empty I realised just how big that house was. A lot of people don’t realise the magnitude and importance of two hard working people coming from the Caribbean setting up a family life & home like this! Amazing…I had the same tears as Latoya when I had to clear out my Granny’s big big house in London 4 years ago…it’s so sad . It’s sooo sad when the house has to go! Mannn! When the family house is empty it feels like our hearts are empty too. Some would say “it’s just a house” but it’s more than that. It’s where we spent most of our time. It’s where our kids grew up, where some of us children actually lived at one point, It’s were my parents grew old together, it’s where most of our holidays were spent, where we laughed, cried, had all of our friends come etc etc. You said it right, the magnitude!! Thankfully you have memories from your grannies house and that’s all we have to hold on too❤️

I never ever thought that life would have happened like this concerning my parents. I know they got older but never imagined my Mom would have this terrible Alzheimer’s and that my dad would pass away being so strong and vibrant until Covid. He came back for one year to make sure we were doing things the way he liked it and then left us. Now we have an empty house and nothing but memories. Live your life to the fullest is all I can say🥰🙏🏽

Yes truly sad. I remember when Latoya lived there and I remember when Granddad painted the room for her. But its like a bitter sweet memory reminder of my grandmother's house, so so many memories all gone because the city tore my granny's house down, no one was notified and we finally found out that a so called neighbor we knew since childhood was the one that spoke to the city to have her home torn down. Like who does that??? my cousin before he had gotten sick renovated our granny's home and repainted the outside. But it was taken from us But I am so glad you shared your parents and their home with us.

My Mom is alive. We moved her to a condo. My dad passed away so didn’t make sense to have her in that big house. We cleaned it out and had a garage sale and now we have to make decisions.

Omg I remember that like yesterday!! It was nine years ago. Imagine even little Samia was a newborn and lived there. My parents were over the moon because of that. My dad would be running in the room to take her and bring her over by his and my mom’s room. She was like a little baby doll for us😅

Wish I didn’t lose the footage showing my Mom’s last moments in her dream home before she moved to the condo. Maybe it’s a good thing I lost that footage because that was the ultimate tear jerker.

Imagine we’ve been mourning the potential loss of a home because this was family unit number 1. It is very emotional. It’s been sitting there for a year and I live around the corner and I couldn’t even go inside without tearing up. I had footage of my mom’s last moments in the house and that footage somehow got damaged so it really tore me up.

I’m so sorry for loss. My condolences to the family. That’s so nice that you have organized a drive to help them. The same is happening in my home state of Maine in Portland. Unfortunately, they were not prepared for the influx of asylum seekers, and are trying their best to help everyone.

My father passed away last year. My mom is still alive but the house is where the memories were made. We have to think about what our next move will be. I guess we were mourning the house. The influx of asylum seekers is at an all time high here in Canada. Never did I ever think that in my small town community would be people sleeping on the streets, waiting for a shelter or church to open so they can stay warm and safe. We can’t save them all but we have made a difference.🙏🏽

The last thing I heard they opened up The Portland Expo (auditorium for sports) to house some of the asylum seekers. I’m hoping all will have shelter before winter.

They have their own houses, and I'm pretty sure Grandma has a live-in nurse at the condo since she had one at the house. The house is too big for just Grandma who is living there with her nurses. She was also unable to go up and down the stairs anymore due to her illness, and since they had no downstairs bedrooms, Grandma's hospital bed was in the living room. Selling the house and moving Grandma into a smaller condo leaves more money to spend on caring for Grandma and making her comfortable. There is no point in keeping the house when everyone already has their own houses.

Kenyan Ayslum seekers would be the proper description. In any case they are here and many say refugees. It might be a play on words but at the end of the day some are on the streets but thankfully most are in various shelters. The one goal is to keep them warm during our frigid winters with the proper attire.
