Hot Take: Players coming to a grind spot who just start grinding over you should be punishable. It is fine they made the Karma changes but then bring back war decs. You can make it that a 1 sided war can be up for 1 hour and after that every subsequent hour costs the guild 500 mil in guild funds unless the dec is reciprocated. (Just one of many solutions btw). Also saying that pvp players go out of their way to grief weaker players is funny when the amount of times I've gone to hunt on Arsha and Ive had to listen to Pve players calling me cringe for killing them while they are on the pvp server is countless. And tbh its only those players that pvpers will actively camp on Arsha. If you cry about pvpers being griefers and assholes dont go on Arsha. I agree there should be penalties regarding random excessive flagging but at the same time we need to be able to punish griefers so bring back war decs but alter them slightly.

This is very True!!!.. What they've done for this game is just pretty much enabled PVEers to grief PVPers thats is and it doesn't seem anybody touches on this topic at all and nobody is really speaking up on the side of PVPer or red players for that matter it's very furiating. But it's very hard when you don't live in Korea or is Korean to get changes to BDO in the first place. Also a lot of people forget that BDO wouldn't be here the day unless for the pvpers that was keeping the game alive back in the old days when PVP was only open world and Node wars and Seiges was the only game content there was to play. To abandon these people and try to adopt flaky PVEers is honestly a bad move on their parts because they could be milking both instead of favoring one.

As a newer player I don't mind world pvp for a grind spot. It would be a little excitement in my hours of grinding to 1v1 someone who I actually have a chance of beating. or if I lose ill go to different part of map and grind. But most of the time open world pvp in my experience is just some 700gs plus player camping 550gs zones just to fight ppl that can't damage them if they stood still. None of them care about the grind spot and just end up chasing me around the zone just to kill me over and over. That one sided "pvp" is what make open world pvp suck for alot of us

The problem isn't that ppl flag on you tbh in my opinion. Our biggest problem is that ppl CAN'T do it now. So what they do is just grefing you until you leave or until you get karma bombed if you flag on them. Ive hade ppl like that many times on dehkia spots and at Oluns but we can legit do nothing about it and that's what very annoying. Would have been easier if we could fight to defend it ? If not then just make every spot into Marni room including group spots at this point tbh

Getting flagged on kind of sucked when they could do it over and over with little to no repercussions, but it also sucks when you cant flag up without nuking your account. Could go to Arsha for pvp, but the people that live in Arsha have some pretty heinous gear sometimes. Would be pretty neat if there were several new arsha realms that have gear caps, 5 or so new servers with things like 250 ap / 265 AP / 280 AP etc so the players that DO want occasional PvP (or the ability to defend their rotation) without being griefed by someone who hasnt touched grass in a long time

A few years ago I quit bdo because i was one shot everywhere i went, even on the new player only servers it was super lame. Some jackass with 269 ap harassed me and my friend when we were little 120 ap babies farming desert foguns making 50 mill an hour. I have been enjoying the game so much more this past year and a half that i came back. I agree they should re work the pvp but at least for me, this version is significantly better than the past.

"PvP players make up less than 1% of the BDO population", has that always been the case? When BDO first dropped back in 2016, I remember it's PvP being a major selling point of the game. Didn't these major PvP guilds used to dec each other all the time? Hell, it seems like they *still* do this judging by the in-game war notifications. Not every "PvPer" who wants to enjoy a fleshed out openworld MMO PvP experience with organic player-driven incentives is also some tool who gets off on griefing scrubs into the dirt. BDO, as an openworld sandbox MMO, should have its PvP integrated *INTO* that openworld in a way that feels organic, as opposed to having it isolated from the core gameplay experience. Introducing players to PvP in an organic way that doesn't involve them getting griefed by someone who completely outgears them is how you CREATE new PvP enjoyers, since BDO's openworld PvP experience can be pretty fun and is one of the best out there. Players should be able to get into conflicts with each other over in-game resources and have the freedom to choose how they resolve those conflicts. A red name shouldn't indicate a griefer, it should indicate a player who consistently chooses to resolve those conflicts by flagging up. Restrictions to openworld PvP should be aimed at preventing players of vastly different gear scores from fighting each other. You should be able to opt out of openworld fights against a certain player by unequipping your gear. The other player won't be able to attack you unless they match your gear, while your gs will be too low to actually contest the mobs. If the other player gear matches to keep fighting you, then he won't be able to kill the mobs anymore either and yall can have a naked noodle fight to your heart's content. Otherwise, he can just keep his gear on and grind uncontested.

Back on console the best time was when you could declare on any guild, so if someone karma bombed you, you just declared on them and had it out as a guild. PvP is legit dead. Even NW is dead, console has loads of T3/4 nodes that no one will snipe because the only PvP is siege or T1/2 😭

The pve community just absolutely destroyed the game no joke. In EU whole guilds stopped after the heidel ball. You might not realize what’s going on but for people who played since start I can tell you the game is just a shadow of what it was and it’s going downhill really bad. BDO currently is in the dying phase. The only way to reverse that is to reintroduce open world PvP and make massive changes on PvE and gear progression systems. But this ain’t going to happen

Factions and honor systems, we don’t have it in BDO. If we had something like this it would help a lot. NPC factions that players could join for set time and gain buffs or access to factions server with better drop rates and rewards for pvping. 100% agree the current open world and even Asha doesn’t work. The karma system would only work if red players and “extra good” players got rewards. If you could gain points for hunting red players and get special clothing or gear etc for it. Same for reds. That would also help.

@@Zwow007 Have we considered that the people looking to pvp are the less geared people? Removing the opportunity to pvp outside of arsha limits any pvp a newer player can get into. Bad experiences aside, when you grind at orcs, you're usually only fighting people that would also be grinding orcs. So the newer player integration into the PvP scene is slowly being done away and it likely unhealthy for the longevity of the game. BDO functionally offers (or used to offer) 2 things: A thriving Open world pvp scene (They still advertise as one) and the endless progression by hitting mobs in a circle. In every other scene BDO is contested and outclassed by games that are significantly better designed for such a thing. Removing the open world pvp (functionally) without instead of changing it to provide safety to those that seek it, limits the new player growth of the game to the people that enjoy the repetitive nature of BDO PVE, which IMO is a niche playerbase.

I just started getting into the game recently and as someone who has always been interested in BDO's PvP, I've been having a hard time finding ways to get my feet wet in small scale pvp situations outside of practice AoS. My first real PvP encounter happened just the other week on Seasonal Arsha server when another play and I were both trying to use the DR buff to grind our Manshaum Forest potion piece. We were both in Tuvala bum gear going back-and-forth trying to camp each other at node spawn for about an hour while farming mobs in between. Eventually, we both said gfs and he logged out. This was the funnest experience I've had in BDO to date. MIND YOU, my original purpose for being there in the first place was to farm the potion piece, and my only reason for fighting this guy at all was because that particular section of Manshaums was ideal for my character, HOWEVER, looking back on it, that experience of fighting him over the potion grind spot ended up being funner than the potion grind itself. This makes me want to PvP even more than I already did and it was done in a way that feels very organic and player-driven. This is one of the main experiences BDO has to offer as an openworld mmo imo, and it's off putting to see how hard PA is trying get rid of it.

I've never had an issue with DFS, but I've always wanted them to remove PKing players. Running up on someone who is distracted fighting mobs, killing them and running away has always been some cowardly nonsense to me. It's like sucker punching someone who isn't looking and running away before they get up, instead of engaging in a real one v one fight. People keep saying what about griefers, but I rarely ever run into other players, and have a conflict over a spot while grinding.

You kill them 3 times and then they have their 4 friends grief you and you lose crystals. The truth is you never could stop someone from griefing your rotation. Just swap channels. If they follow you then report them. Also let's not pretend that someone griefing a rotation like a moron isn't far rarer than someone griefing players. You have about 20 channels. Swap. Flagging is a crap system. Karma has literally never been a great system. It's always either been pointlessly easy to ignore or pointlessly punishing.

If they remove flags something needs to be added because then we get the Season Server off only briefing tactics at grind spots. I say give us a placable flagpole u pop at a G-Spot that creates a hostile bubble, -enter at your own risk. No one is at risk of losing gear or crystals it's like a mutual pvp dfs. Having one up grants a bonus to drop chance. Add it to the tent on another slot. But even if you hide tents it shows, n obviously the name of the person who placed it turns red, so you know oh this guys grinding here, maybe we can dfs, or maybe I should move on... Something like that otherwise we'll just have overlap greifers. Something like that

The problem is, all classes aren't balanced for 1v1 PvP and when someone who is trying to PvE is out there, he is in a PvE spec, with PvE crystals. Open PvP isn't for the good fights, it is for griefing people. You want entertainment at the expense of someone else. Someone who is going red isn't rolling a Shai, they can target their gear and spec just for killing players. They have a massive advantage and sadly, they grief people to the point they chase people off the game and it is just a mediocre business model. I played EVE Online for years and that is the ultimate PvP game because there are next to no rules. Blackmail, embezzlement, hostage taking, murder, these are celebrated and the epic posts full of tears live on in history as memes. But it does turn the game into a very niche game with a massive advantage to people who have played the game for a very long time. It makes it very hard to grow the game. The average person is shit at PvP. I think what they are doing is trying to create the means for people who love PvP to be able to have better quality PvP fights against other PvPers. They don't want people to grief people not interested in PvP because it is bad for business and what is happening to PvP is the result of the actions of PvPers so they only have themselves to blame, the ones who go WAY overboard and nobody did anything to self-police the PvP scene to thin out the bad actors so now PA is forced to get involved as they like money more than they like free for all PvP.

It would have been better if they actually implemented a player justice system like they talked about waaay back when they released Valencia. They just dropped the ball as devs for that and probably a whole lot of the original devs are gone and the new ones don't like the state of owpvp as well as they don't know how to make good pvp game modes. Guild leagues and solaire are the only ones really worth doing. Solaire is perfect for anyone wanting to learn pvp or a class while guild leagues is perfect for team play. Also only GL is worth doing because at least you can get your silver invested back. I only rbf, I don't grind anymore. And the rewards are absolute trash. Oh and literally every other pvp mode is failing besides the 3 and rbf is going down hill.

They always go after noobs because noobs shit talk, get butthurt when they die and these people live for these no challenge fights. There are pvp servers, there are pvp modes and these are not popular because people are going up against people who are experienced at the game, are playing characters designed to be good at PvP and get their ego deflated when they get farmed by better PvPers. The vast majority of the time when I have been attacked, I was either afk for a long period of time or on a class which is lets say obviously mediocre in 1v1. I don't care, it is what it is but for people who haven't had any real experience with PvP it doesn't take a lot for them to leave the game for good. It isn't the fault of the player who likes PvP, it is the fault of the developer for forcing modes onto people. The problem is, I don't think PvP is a sound investment decision, why spend the resources for such a small minority of the players who actually enjoy it? It isn't a good business decision to spend a lot of money on something that is dead on arrival. Open PvP mmos are either dead or very niche. The problem with the justice system is it still exposes people who don't want to PvP to PvP. They have created the option for people interested in PvP to go to a PvP server but there is no option for a someone not interested in PvP to go to a non-PvP server. If there were non-PvP servers with 24/7 Mari, lets be realistic 95%+ of the population would be crammed onto them.

@@vimzim8576 really good points, maybe there should be a pve server just like there is pvp server and the rest of the servers should be left alone as well as all the changes reverted. Then we have best of both worlds. Pve/life skillers are safe and pvx players can continue to play on normal servers with a healthier mix and pvpr can duke it out on arsha. I never said there aren't players who chased across servers, but they get banned for griefing now anyway. There were so many options they could have done but instead they have made it bad for the very old players who used to enjoy the sandbox aspect of the game. That being said a big ammount of the older players have quit and moved on because of previous times pa has messed with pvp and node wars. So they won't lose much anymore if they completely remove all types of pvp from the game.

Agreed on the two types of reds. Use th e red zone in the desert to a greater effect,remove/reduce karma penalty in the red zone. Why,it would encourage PvP zones once expanded beyond just Valencia. Sea battles,underground fight clubs & desert dance parties should be a thing. Look at it as the wilderness from RuneScape,where PvP is to be expected. Ofc which zones should adapt such would be up for debate,but it would still remain a worthwhile world mechanic.

Carl is the type of player that is the reason these changes happened. The guy runs PvP elixirs and build than runs around attacking PvE players that are clearly on a PvE set-up or at a lower GS. Plenty of pvp content the dude just has issues.

Big surprise, people don't like one sided pvp/griefing. I don't feel sorry for them at all. Game is better off without it, as all games are. They can move to the next game and ruin their player base as well, and start the cycle all over. The funny part is most of the time these players don't want a fair fight. They want to be able to grief people they out gear that have zero chance. Pathetic humans. Good riddance. The only way open world PVP could ever be fair, fun and balanced is a flagging system like New World, but also where gear doesn't matter, purely skill based normalized PVP damage. Who can hit/block/absorb/dodge damage the most wins. No heals, no buffs, no pets, no anything else other than straight normalized damage, we all know how balanced classes are. Would it require a total rework of the system? Yep, but that's been needed since the game launched.

Same thing happened in Eve Online WAAAAYYY back. The Minmitar ships and guns were the most OP thing by far and away and one day some players nuked the devs squadron with them. The devs nerfed them so fucking hard after that that no one touched Minmi ships and guns for something like 4 or 5 years until they finally buffed them back to a marginally playable level.

Let me tell you a real scenario that happened last week on my guild. Two players quit because of PK. Does not matter what you and I think, what matters is that Pearl Abyss is not getting money anymore from those two players in this example. Both of them got killed by Caarl countless times and others, they do not pvp it's their choice and they got tired of it to the point of just ALT+F4 and that's it. Now imagine the huge amount of money PA is losing every day because far too many players quits because of this hence all the owpvp changes. If you don't like what PA is doing it does not matter, they are losing money and will change the system until people stop quitting due to PK. "hurr durr but people quit due to enhance too" - Of course they do but this is a different subject isn't it?

PvE besides dungeons in BDO is not really diverse and would be considered boring by most gamers. Check out other MMO's like BnS which started PvE focused (which I only played for PvE) who did it way better. Running circles in a game is only as fun as it is creative. I understand where your assumption comes from but you can get betrayed by a company and still play their game. Honestly the reason why I never started playing BDO before the start of 2024 was because of the PVP where if someone just felt like it they could come and ruin like a 2 hour spot that I only have for that day. I have never been a PVP person I just don't get enjoyment from it and as you said it's never fun being the person who gets rushed down by some kid in max gear when you literally just graduated. The best option I see is just spilt some of the servers,(which they kinda have?) have one that has open world pvp and one that either has some kind of flag system or none at all and see what players do and I guarantee 99% of the playerbase will never touch those pvp servers.

To me Flagged players are not the worst for PvE'rs. I have run into players who is not flagged but constantly aggroed the mobs to ruin my rotation. Taunting me to flag up. To me those are the most despicable people. With this new Karma system they know I won't or many won't so they just keep on running around the grind zone interrupting other players. On my server Stars End is the worst place for this. They are not grinding, they are not PvP-ing they are just trolling for fun. Cowards!

I have noticed a spike in players trying to find new ways to feed people to mobs, i have left my farming alt logged in on the cliff near Velia for like 15 minutes sometimes when i go afk. i have had on a couple occasions a new account with no stats or levels randomly showed up and got a weasel to attack me, it did kill me but i lost nothing and it counted it as a player death even though said account was lvl 10.... Glad to see BDO was a step ahead of that over-sight, considering under lvl 50 you can't even pvp.

I hope the devs added where certain hits will destroy equipments of any pk players. I grind multiple times at Saunil and Giants and spent hours to spawn the boss and guess what? I get Pked with no warning at all and as soon as i spawn they just pk me and get the boss drops. See how frustrating this is for me to grind hours then suddenly people come to steal it. Karma system was never fully developed at launch, and it has been talked about for years with worse changes then not touching it at all. PvPers are the biggest PvErs. Gear is the most valuable items in the game. That is PA's Fault! Therefore yes! People are going to use said gear they spent thousands of hours on to kill you. True balance would be giving red players an incentive for being -10 million Karma. Gear downgrade on PVE death, massive XP and Crystal loss to players killing you. Very few red player cities/towns for npc use. Face facts, these devs hate you if you're red.

Despite PA taking L after L with their recent PvP gamemode changes, this one is kinda both PA's and players' fault. PA's, because they could make a thought-out rework (yeah, as if that's ever gonna happen) to flagging system so it's used more for contesting or defending spots, or maybe even other different objectives in open world. But PK players, who's been pampered for 8 years in some regions, and their progress ended up with using flagging system exclusively for bullying PvE specs that are distracted with mobs, or gearlets, or lifeskillers, and to this day their knees shake to exit safezone with their V on cooldown because they won't be able to skip a fight where the opponent can actually fight back. Of course PA would take the easiest and laziest route if system is nothing but abused, what did you think is gonna happen? So, at the end of the day, if you hear a PK player whining about OW PvP removal, remember - they did this to themselves. No. They did this to all of us.

Just have half (or at least 1/3) of the channels/servers of each region where you are unable to pvp other players in open-world, then arsha remain as is, maybe add an extra channel or 2 of arsha, and have the rest remain as is where you can flag up and force pvp others outside safe zones. And also backtrack all the punishing negative karma changes like the mount karma penalty increase and the blue gear downgrade.

@@pigeonflip3649 If you're a pve player, the endgame pve content, keep in mind that calamity 8+ will use your real gear not the orbs. If you're a pvp player, there's uncapped siege, NW, guild league, normal arsha, red battlefield and so on. Adding a new capped arsha would not take away the meaning and impact of your gear. You could give 20% drop buff instead of 50% on capped arsha and everyone would be happy.

I really think its time to just remove alt+c from the game. the game has changed so much over the years and in my personal opinion pvp sucks ass now compared to back in the day, everyone is so much stronger now that fights are usually over in a few seconds, its just not enjoyable. thats not even getting into stuff like the massive mobility creep. If people want to pvp, the arsha servers are there for that, if you dont want to get griefed at a grindspot, marni realm exists (though more spots need marni realm). I completely agree with you that the balance between pvp and pve is better now than it was, separating the 2 is (in theory) better for everyone, no one is forced into pvp if thats not how they want to play the game, and from what i have seen, the only people really complaining about the pvp related changes are griefers who are mad that their ability to grief and harass other players is being taken away

To be honest... the pvp d-baggery is what made me quit years ago(and only recently return). It is one thing if it is a fair pvp encounter between players where skill wins out . . It is another thing entirely when some f*** with three times your gear score decides that he wants your grind spot and shoves you out simply because he can, and you have zero recourse aside from dropping guild and karma bombing him and his friends until they realize that you are fine with 500 deaths if it hurts them just a little bit. Karma bombing wasn't/isn't harassment and bullying.... it was the only f***ing option for retaliation against someone else that decided to be an a*******. The moment you hit pvp level you basically just got to have the fun of being dumpstered every 30 minutes and decide if you felt petty enough to karma bomb the guy until he left. It was not fun. It was not enjoyable. It is what caused my group of 15+ people to all walk away. Why put months/years into getting "competitive" ... when you're literally just going to be bullied the entire time until you get to the end?

What makes pve player angry when theyre killed is their money per hour goes down. Their silver target perday isnt being filled. Look at other game open world pvp, theyre not that mad being killed. Its an annoying for sure but wouldnt be categorized as griefing. And the imbalance classes is adding oil to the fire. Gear gap also a factor. Its no longer a game where you enjoy progressing, progressing becoming a must do and your first priority to enjoy the content. It is shit system....with a shit dev

If a red player would die, there would be 50% chance, that one of a piece of their gear would drop from their eq? Dropping as a "broken adventurer gear" pity piece(with a lets say 0.003% for belongings of an adnveturer), that would be exchangable for sth cool at certain amount . Why just not fix it this way? EVERYONE would be happy and there wouldn;t be no need for any further penalties. +some mechanics to stop players from farming each other :P

You keep talking about harassment.. I do agree at one point or another it surely gets to being that but from my humble experience harassment in game doesnt happen so often(and if it does its against ToS). If u mean harassment by you being unable to defend yourself.. Thats another thing. Actually back in the day that was one of the driving forces for people to gear up and get better at the game. Its just as u said the world was smaller the competition was huge due to the size of the player base. Removing all kinds of pvp because its Harassment is not right. Just to please some newer players that will quit anyway coz the game rn basically has nothing to offer other than keep running in circles just u can do run in circles faster and better but that gets old pretty quick. You cant flag up anymore without the risk of losing ur sht after you went red after 2-3 kills, you cant declare war... So when somebody comes around and start grinding on top of you what exactly are you to do? Apologize and leave? Not to mention they r slowly killing the pvp as a whole. War of the roses was crap, NW rework is a crap, AOS is alright when there is actually anybody but you in que for it, RBF is ok if we dont care about the outdated rewards. SO the only thing standing as it is is guild league. From a sandbox pvp game this pathetic excuse of one is not even worth playing anymore. Carebears and snowflakes man...

Yeah, the direction they chose for world pvp makes little sense to me. Just make marnie realm boosted as all hell, and allow people who want to pvp to pvp. PvE andies happy, pvp players can do open world pvp without having their whole family line cursed.
