I enjoy these videos. Just my opinion, I don’t see the White Sox moving out of Chicago. The owner made a relocation threat 25 years ago, successfully to his credit. That said, I would submit people will call his bluff this time around. Chicago is the 3rd largest city in the country. Even if they build in the suburbs, the market is larger than any other relocation city available in the country. What is more likely is for the owner to sell or die before this stadium gets replaced. Last point, it is ironic that stadiums like Wrigley, Fenway, Dodger Stadium, the old Tiger Stadium, old Yankee Stadium, etc lasted many decades yet these more modern stadiums are considered obsolete in about 20-25 years. As long as cities continue to build them, and tax payers continue to vote yes to fund them, this trend will continue

@@jamesgoatcherI don’t think even Arte is the problem. It’s the players he inks who become bums when they get here is the problem. If Arte spends money, he gets pissed on. If he doesn’t, he still gets pissed on. So what gives? I think he did the right thing by not signing Shohei to a ridiculous contract. We have to start drafting quality guys just like Jackie Autry did back in the late 90s to help build a strong foundation for the team. We need to stop signing free agents since they don’t pan out. In the last twenty years, the only free agent that was worth his money and then some has been Vladdy. Everyone else sucked.

Hey brother, love your videos. But have you ever been to Angel Stadium? The upper deck is not completely dilapidated. Where did you get your info from? It’s an older stadium, yes, but it is very far from dilapidated. It a still a decent and fun stadium. Just because it doesn’t have all the unnecessary bells and whistles you peddle (social areas, retractable roofs) doesn’t mean a stadium sucks. I’ve said it before in your videos and I’ll say it again, Angel Stadium is perfect for baseball. We go there to watch a baseball game, not for anything else. Unlike all the other cities, we have a lot of things to do in SoCal, so we don’t need all the other crap other stadiums have to have to bring in fans. We go to Angel Stadium to relax, to get away from the regular fast SoCal life. And no sir, no baseball stadium in SoCal should EVER have any kind of roof on it. Baseball is meant to be played outdoors in the sun or in the nice weather we have here. Not sure what your obsession with retractable roofs is. The last few baseball stadiums built with roofs are atrocious. The fad is becoming tired. I know you’ll have lost your mind when/if you ever say that the Padres need a retractable roof on their stadium.

It's absolutely awful, I live in Tampa without traffic right now my maps says it's a 30 minute drive to Tropicana Field, which isn't bad the problem is, is generally you'll hit a ton of traffic going there, or a nightmare getting out of the stadium. On top of that there are really no places to go around there after the game that you could easily walk to while you wait for traffic to clear up and the parking lot bottlenecks like no other. The last issue is there's no feasible way to get to the game using public transportation.

I’ve never been to Royals Stadium, but I have to say that it’s still one of the most unique stadiums ever built. I feel that the renovations they made to get rid of the iconic water falls in the outfield were a massive mistake. The stadium, just like Angel Stadium, Dodger Stadium, Fenway and Wrigley, has a certain charm that even given its age, makes it a really cool destination. I don’t care how many billions are spent on new stadium construction (including the damn retractable roofs), you cannot build character into a stadium. These older pre-1970s stadiums have that. That’s why they always draw fans regardless of team performance.

@@jdspreestTiger Stadium in Detroit was the same way. It’s their age and history that makes them charming. Like the other facilities you mentioned, it was an attraction. If my memory serves me about the Detroit Tigers and CoMerica Park the new walls are basically tests to see how well they work out given the issues with Home Runs that have happened in the recent years. They don't want to put $300-$400 Million only to have the new walls need to be replaced again. They are planning on a major renovation and don't plan on leaving CoPa. It's in such an ideal location with the Ford Field, home of the Lions across the street and the Little Caesers Arena which hosts Pistons and Red Wings a few blocks away it's already one of the best collection of stadiums in the country. There was a story recently about building over I-75, which goes just north of CoPa and Ford Field and is between them and the LCA. They would tunnel a stretch of I-75 for a good share of the area and use that to put up shops, and other entertainment venues, like they've done in Foxboro and Green Bay. This cover would go from about Cass, West of LCA, to Brush street, the street that bisects Ford Field and CoPa. they've talked about having the the Fisher Service roads on either side of I-75 be eliminated from LCA to Brush Street since there's nothing that would be affected by their removal. Traffic on both sides have only a block in each direction to get around so no major loss there and they could easily have the empty lots along it become part of the attractions. since all four major sports in the US are right there there will always be customers year round from Ford Field, CoPa and the LCA for customers.

I've attended plenty of games at Comerica and I still feel like a stranger in a strange land. I miss Tiger Stadium, the old ballpark, a real ballpark. Comerica was poorly designed from the outset. That silly notion that creating a cavern would attract pitching was a half-baked dipshit idea and it only got worse from there. The old stadium had a cozy intimate feel to it. At Comerica you are far from the action even in a good seat. And that blaring cheezy sound system blasting out that horrible walk-up music. And bleachers. They purposely left bleachers out because of the rowdy fans they used to attract but again, that was part of the charm of the old ballpark. I spent many a fun summer night hanging out with the $2.00 crowd in center field. Sorry if I come off like an old curmudgeon but I miss the old days when it was about the game. These corporate bandboxes that get torn down after 30 years are ugly and cold. But you are right about the location. They really have no place else to build a new stadium unless they want to move out to the suburbs and that would take away the Illitch's precious foot traffic to the rest of the businesses they either own out right or are associated with down there. But that's just my take on it.

Florida just is not a baseball state. I don't blame the location, it isn't as bad as it's made out to be. Even if the Rays moved into Ybor Harbor you wouldn't see a big jump in attendance. People in LA drive further through worse traffic to watch the Dodgers and Angels. But Hell no I'm not driving 20 miles to watch baseball because there might be _some_ congested traffic. You don't see people from the South crossing the Sunshine bridge despite no bad traffic. Fair weather fans want the stadium 5 miles or closer. I lived in Redington Shores and went to plenty of games. Traffic wasn't bad at all. It bottlenecks on the bridges, but then thins out, I saw a whole lot worse going to Braves games. Not a bad experience except being dark in that dome. Montreal is probably the worst decision imo, even worse than keeping the trop. They aren’t planning on building anything new anytime soon and the only stadium that can accommodate baseball is Olympic Stadium, which is dilapidated, worse than the trop, and part of why the Expos left town, not to even mention that the stadium has become abandoned outside of a handful of concerts. Another reason is that the fans never showed up to Expos games, which could go back to a bad stadium and the Expos never being any good.

Three comments: 1. If I was the owner of the White Sox, and money was not an issue, I would love to move into where Soldier Field currently is. If the Bears do move to Arlington Heights, I swear that area of Soldier Field (not that far from Comiskey) would be great for a ballpark, and they can incorporate the marble columns already there, 2. I have been to nine MLB stadiums, one of them being Tropicana Field (more than once). Sure, it is not great, but sitting in air conditioning when the outdoor temperature is 90F+ with high humidity is a good thing, and 3. Comerica Park looked better 20+ years ago than it does now. They put a lot of time, money, and energy into the design, but have moved the fences in several times. The idea of a flagpole in the field of play WAS neat, but, of course, the flagpole did not move, but the wall did. Give Detroit another twenty years, and Comerica will probably be the most hitter-friendly ballpark in MLB.

A middle path was not tenable. I keep telling everyone that I'd still rather freeze my as* off on a wooden bleacher bench at old Cleveland Stadium surrounded by real, rabid, working-class fans than pay a fortune to sit in pampered luxury in places like SoFi or Allegiant (the only two NFL stadiums I've been to in the last two years) and listen to hedge fund managers talk about their golf games. The biggest problem with GRF is the original design, which has it facing away from one of the world’s best skylines. This was allegedly done at the behest of Reinsdorf, who wanted to keep the cornerstone at 35th and Shields; facing the stadium downtown would not allow this to happen. Otherwise, it’s a great place to watch a baseball game. It’s clean, has good sight lines, and is easily accessible.

Been an Angels fan since 1961, yes I have issues !! Honestly I agree with some of your content. Angels fans are sick of Arte Moreno our ??? owner. Mike Trout does have a huge contract but we're hopeful he has a comeback 2024. Most Angels fans are hoping 2024 is a transition with the young players becoming our future nucleus restoring a competitive team. I cannot agree with the upper deck at Angels Stadium being dilapidated. News to me. Putting a translucent roof over the ballpark. I respect your opinions but seriously ??? SoCal has perfect baseball weather, why put on a roof ? If a roof is even considered then that idea would be as unpopular as Arte. Interesting blog but the roof idea, wow !! I'm still shaking my head. Sorry to disagree but Angels fans definitely will not sit quietly for a unpopular idea.

I keep the White Sox however, you need to relocate them to a different part of Chicago, and one of the big reasons is because where it’s located in Chicago sits in a very dangerous neighborhood. Now Oakland and Tampa Bay obviously need to be taken care of. The Los Angeles Angels there’s nothing wrong with their stadium I don’t see what you guys are really fussing about. For the Arizona D-Backs. That’s very tough to decide I don’t really see much wrong with it. Be glad they have air-conditioning inside because we know how Arizona is hell with extreme temperatures and besides you already have cool features and swimming pool in the back of right center field For the Kansas City Royals, I don’t know why they think it’s endangered. Kaufman Stadium is a nice ballpark There’s nothing for me to say about Detroit

The problem with "Guaranteed Rate Field", aka Comiskey II, is that it was built adjacent to the OLD Comiskey Park, just off the Dan Ryan Expressway. While doing so did at least give decent freeway access, negotiating busy Chicago commute traffic and venturing into "The Hood" tends to kill the baseball appetite for all but the most devoted Pale Hose fans. Moving outwards in Chicagoland, if the ChiSox are to remain there at all, is probably their best long-term bet. I'd say the White Sox should explore working jointly with "Da Bears" on a 2-stadium complex in the suburbs, perhaps with a moveable roof. However, Chicago fans have never seemed to have a problem with "the elements"!
@rodneygarner9055
@rodneygarner9055 Жыл бұрын
GRF is hardly in “The Hood”. Absent those isolated incidents last year (which is happening all over the city, I may add), not much happens outside the ballpark. Moving the team to the suburbs would be a huge mistake. Moving them to the northwest suburbs loses the South Side character of the franchise, and would make getting to the ballpark a serious chore, for much of its fan base.

I have never liked Comerica but there really is nowhere else down there to put it. The only option would be to move to the suburbs and the Illitch's would never allow the foot traffic the place generates to their other businesses take a hit. As for Tropicana, I was under the impression a deal had already been done. That is what was reported down here. And they are going to put it in the same shitty location. I went to opening day this past season, my first and last game at that dump. The cops have no clue on how to control traffic and they rely on the notorious five-minute Florida red-lights to do the work while they stand around and yell at drivers for blocking intersections when there is nowhere else to go. I circled that area for close to two hours before I was finally able to get to a parking lot. It's a crummy stadium in a crummy area and it's too bad because they really do have a good team. I guess Tampa just didn't want to give up any of that prime waterfront to build a proper stadium. Truth be told, with all the transplants like me down here who root for other teams they'd be better off moving, but that's me.

Weirdly, I think people are freaking out too much about the white sox and the possibility of moving. This time, and in this case, I think we are largely okay. I don't think you're going to be able to turn Soldier Field into a baseball stadium, especially with how tight that area is. It's right by Millenium Park and there are too many things around Millenium Park to go around, logistically. It would attract tourism and parking-wise it'd be heavenly, but I just don't see it happening there. Maybe around McCormick Place? idk. I don't think we're moving to Arlington Heights, either. The Bears have yet to finalize on all of that, why would Reinsdorf - who's largely been doing the same stuff over and over, make a move based on an unfinished deal? The prospect of Memphis is covered by Chuck Garfien. Reinsdorf does however, like to make changes to the park every year. We're probably going to see more of that. This is a stadium that had quadruple the eyes and people there in '05. The stadium is the least of my concerns when it comes to the Sox.
