Thx for the review, loved your analysis of the slavery mechanic, both on a gameplay and on a philosophical standpoint. This game invites this discussion by cleverly introducing it in a historical context, while morally "condemning" it through the abolition of slavery card. Thanks for not avoiding that discussion and not glossing over what is a crime against humanity.

6:56 I thought to occupy in a colony (ie. outside of Europe) you had to finish the shipping lane for that colony. Is that not correct?
@tompaulussen77986 жыл бұрын
14:40: You occupy the city in a closed region, because you have presence there. I thought the rule says you can not occupy cities or shipping lanes in closed regions?

Looks great, very much appreciated your play trough, but I have a question, you used the occupy action more than once for regions that aren’t open, I checked the new rules and they say that for the draw action the region doesn’t need to be open, but that’s not the case for the occupy action. Am I missing something? Cheers
@theercs7 жыл бұрын
Fábio you are correct! At 14:40 there is a klingon subtitle noting that the region must be open in order to perform the occupy action. Thanks!

Steve Ercolini thanks. My bad for not turning on the subtitles.

can shipping lanes be attacked inorder to establish dominance in the lane, if not doesn't it sound reasonable

This looks like a good Euro game with a them I find interesting. Too bad it isn't available at a decent price right now. I should have bought it at Essen.

Any chance you are in the states? It just became available today on Cool Stuff for $50.49 which seems like a decent price to me since it retails for $70.

Good job on the reivew. @26:00 shouldn't the dumby player have shipped and taken North America?
@theercs6 жыл бұрын
You are correct. In the Klingon subtitles the skipping of the dummy players turn was noted first at 7:27 and no additional notes were made after that.

Is there a victory point tracker to make final scoring easier?
@theercs6 жыл бұрын
There is an unlocked/completed stretch goal on the Kickstarter for a scoring pad for use in final scoring. Also the rulebook has a suggestion in it for using the discs at the end of the game to mark the glory points on the board and then you just have to count the discs.

Great video as always. As a owner of the original edition, i am surprised by the fact that you can draw a card from a region even if the region is not opened. Why this rule was changed ? What is the purpose ?
@slickerdrips7 жыл бұрын
From the change notes they sent me: "This new rule is a major success-accelerating aspect and is why Governors are not on the decks during setup"
@lokihve65917 жыл бұрын
Thank you for a review, it's a solid Euro game, very nicely streamlined by the looks of it, but the scoring is clunky, really clunky, from scoring victory points on the map to having no scoring track to remember the scores
@helainacappel89077 жыл бұрын
We've added a stretch goal to the game. It's a score pad. Makes things a lot easier to track.
@theercs7 жыл бұрын
Also the rulebook has a suggestion in it for using the discs at the end of the game to mark the glory points on the board and then you just have to count the discs. From the Working Rulebook: "An effective way todo this is to remove all of your discs from Shipping Tracks and Open Sea spaces, leaving only those on Cities, Links, and Trade Routes. Then place extra discs onto the links you control, and 1 extra disc onto any 2-GloryCity you control. Finally remove your discs on Trade Routes. Count the discs remaining on the board to get your score."

My, did I get the wrong impression when I saw a blurb on Google +... I thought this was a video game similar to Age of Empires (my personal favorite). I used to love board games when I was growing up especially one called Battle Cry, modeled on the American Civil War. This appears interesting but even if I were to want to play, finding someone else, at my age, who would be even mildly interested or mentally capable of playing it would require overcoming vast distances ( a block or two with a walker is a motherfucker) and quite possibly time travel. I will, however, leave you with a like and wish you the very best.
@Android_insurrection6 жыл бұрын
Have you seen the size of the box? Carrying it with your walker would make it even worse!! As for playing games, have you seen the online sites such as BGA and Yucata? Endevor isn't there as yet but of others.

47:35 You incorrectly give Marty 1VP for a ship instead of a city so the final score of the game should be a tie 73-73!
@slickerdrips Жыл бұрын
Thanks Jon, prefer ties :D
@nicolaithorning6 жыл бұрын
At roughly 7:20, should Marty not have followed his occypy action by one for the dummy player - or is this not relevant in Europe?
@theercs6 жыл бұрын
You are correct! The klingon subtitle was later in the video. I have moved it up to this first instance of skipping the dummy player. Thanks!

slickerdrips It makes the situation MORE awkward by spending so much time stumbling over your words trying to explain it.
@slickerdrips7 жыл бұрын
I don’t doubt that, I’m not so good at the serious stuff but I don’t think it’s worth not discussing something integral to the game to avoid awkwardness
@andrewv35156 жыл бұрын
So what if people were oppressed? "MAN UP BRAH". As awkward as it is I'd rather the reviewers address it rather than ignore it. It also happens to be one of the main mechanisms of the game.
@Drerunsit166 жыл бұрын
Andrew Varga Discussing the mechanism is fine, and necessary. But viewers don't need to have the presenter rationalize behavior in which he doesn't engage. Every rational person in the world knows that slavery is bad, and this is a game review, not a social-justice course.
