I have to say, having had printers with touch screens and printers with knobs, I find I prefer the knobs. There is something existentially satisfying about something simple well done. It looks like they took everything that was annoying about learning to 3d print, and built something cheap that works out of the box.

Yeah, I'm really excited about this printer. $1000 mega printers are cool and all, but this is, in my opinion, more appropriate for more people, and offers the best value on the market right now.

Most of my fun with 3d printing is talking shop with other makers, and introducing new people to the art. A name brand $200 printer that is decent quality and simple to use makes me kind of giddy about the future. That's in the price range of a doting grandparent.@@NathanBuildsRobots

@@Trashalchemy Despite getting my start with Creality printers, there's still room on my shelf for a future Prusa. But more as a "this is a quality device that is a joy to work with" sort of niche as opposed to a "cranking out crochet bowls on Etsy" sort of niche. I really want to own one with the material handler, just so I can do multi-color prints beyond the present techniques I'm using. (Either filament change at a certain layer, or break the model into multiple parts, each with a different material.) I have a book series/tabletop RPG coming out that I want to make miniatures for. And it's a world where ships are held together with moxie and literal magic, so I need different colors and textures to pull it off. Brass plumbing. Stainless steel structural members. Ceramic looking armor plates. Charred engine nozzles. Etc.

Same opinion about knob vs touch. The touchscreen fad needs to die. Buttons are far more responsive and reliable. A capacitive touchscreen becomes unusable with a single droplet of water on it and even on my phone which suffers from the "must have zero bezels" fad, just putting one of those soft cases on it makes the screen buggy and unresponsive. Other types of touchscreens aren't any better compared to simple mechanical buttons that can be pressed as many times per second as your fingers can manage. Having to pause even for just a third of a second between each input on a touchscreen is just an annoying worse experience.

It makes a lot of sense though. Printer companies are increasingly starting to build ecosystems where they recruit customers to their banks with good low cost printers the. Hope they upgrade later to high end stuff. At least I think that’s what creality is thinking with this new lineup of an awesome Ender 3 and higher price point K1

I bought this printer and have had it about a week. All I can say being a total rookie is it is easy to print!. With this model I have some of the upgrades and bells and whistles of more expensive models at an INCREDIBLE PRICE! I am already geeking out and looking how I can upgrade my V3 SE...so yeah...if Creality is trying to bring more customers in and and have them spend more money in their "ecosystem" they definitely nailed it.

I am glad to see you showed the bottom of the printer as that highlights a big reason why they may be able to offer this level of feature at this price point. Where the old printers were assembled within a frame of aluminum extrusions, this is assembled with a few stamped pieces of metal that attach together likely so easily that the process can be automated. I have minor concern over stiffness at high print speeds, but if it can really do 250mm/sec with some quality at any time then I don't mind.

Sensor-less homing bangs and stresses the mechanical parts and puts more electrical load on the drivers. It's actually a cheap way to do things and less reliable. I prefer the limit switches. The two screws go on the top of the machine at the bottom of the right Z axis bracket - Loosen all the screw put the two screw in and then tighten them in sequence so it all seats properly.

Nathan, yes...time for modder board v2(maybe an easier to keep up with name...MB V3 for the SE). I just got into 3d printing about 2 weeks ago, with a 3 S1...and your channel/work is among my favorite. With this printer, entry into 3d printing will be easier on every level, every aspect. Less expense, easier setup, smaller form factor...while still being moddable for folks that are wanting that. All great for kids(and parents footing bill for the learning/experience). All of those points means more desire for your modder board. I picture these in schools more frequently, and your modder board is a perfect learning aid for those who dont know soldering and component selection/hookup. Easy peazy. So yes please get back to the drawing board! Keep up the good content!

I’ve had my since 2021 and have loved it. I didn’t know anything about printers and lucked out with the most modifiable one on the market. I hope the v3 is the same way, Creality’s new gen printers seem to not have as many options as the 3 and 3v2 though. The way I see it, the E3V2 is a Toyota Supra. Slow (by todays standards) and boring but once you mod it a little it really becomes a great printer. I haven’t had to touch my bed leveling knobs in over a year. I set the mesh and left it. I can literally hit print and come back to a finished model. I’m shopping for my next printer (~$1500 to spend) and I’m hesitant to buy anything fancy. The Ender has treated me so well I have entertained the thought of buying 1 or 2 more E3V2’s, duplicating all the mods so they’re all the exact same and calling it a day. 3-4 finely tuned Enders will surely print faster than 1 P1S or K1 Max…right? …Right?

I really like what I see, the design choices are really well calculated. No double Z motors which nobody needs anyways from a design or engineering point of view. Keep it simple, small and cheap. I like the PTFE lined hotends since it´s not an exlosed printer and they are way cheaper and easier to handle they also print way better PLA & PETG. Part cooling sucks and cold end cooling sucks. 30mm fans are simply dumb. Soo small and loud. My question would be, does it run the same software as the Elegoo 4 does ? Is it fast ?

Neptune 4 is running klipper, and I believe this is running marlin. It's not AS fast as the Neptune 4, but for the price reduction, I think I'd be tempted to go the Ender 3 route. Plus the modding scene is going to be crazy for these machines as always.

This was sort of I was expecting Sovol to do with the SV07 Plus, especially using linear rails on the bedslinger. But from the leaked photos, it's literally a bigger SV07. This one though, it looks cool for a budget printer. I'm sure it will probably beat the SV07 and Kobra 2 easily in terms of value but competes with the Neptune 4. Pretty impressive pricing and feature wise very similar to a anycubic kobra 2 (auto z, two leadscrews and one stepper, quick, marlin based machine). I think this could even replace the 100 dollar microcenter ender 3p with the features given. Are the bed bearings greased? They sound a bit grindy. Really good job on the overall design, making it more compact with the changes they made. Im curious what Mainboard creality has put in and if they finally managed to make one with uart/spi drivers, since the microstepping sounds a little rough just like on the kobra 2. I also got one for the screens: Creality: puts on really nice screen on 200 dollar machine Bambu: puts on crappy screen because user aren't using it anyway. Meanwhile the ankermake m5c: no screen, so people cant complain about bad screens

Jeebus. This looks a HECK of a lot nicer than the $180 Ender 3 Pro that made me hate it over a couple of cantankerous years. Even though I knew all the 3D print things, that printer almost made me ditch the hobby. Fortunately, my next printer was a "beginner" 3D printer that did auto-levelling and has not yet needed adjustments or calibration of any kind in ten months of daily use. Regarding the "Ender 3 Pro", I gots too many hobbies to put that much extra attention into any single one of them.

NOW I KNOW! Thank you for the video but my 1st printer just a month ago is a ender 3 v2 neo (whatever neo is), and I will never buy another ender now knowing what I know now. The new v3 look like ankermaker M5C but in a mini version. I'm guessing v3 neo will be bigger and still little cute. edit: love how you tell it like it is tho! BL touch and no manual bed level? Ender users know how important just manual bed level is.

How are you liking the 5s1? I've had one for a few months now. And despite expectations, my 3 pro is STILL my goto machine. The 5 makes a lot of impressive noise, and throws itself around hard enough that I've had to lay it on the floor. But for all that "speed" I ended up having to run it at basically the same levels as my 3 pro to get equivilent quality. Even after switching to Klipper and the Sonicpad. The taller gantry is nice for when I want to fill the plate with copies of a print I want to produce one-at-a-time. There is also one skyscraper I sell on Etsy that really never printed well on a bed slinger.

Knowing creality... They will keep selling all the prior crap even though it doesn't make sense. It's a basic theory in retail. Offer a bunch of choices, assuming people select them randomly you capture more $$$. Smart/price conscious consumers will buy the higher value/cheaper stuff at the lower price points, but for every person that makes the "mistake" of buying the non-optimal option, that is more money in your pocket. Sad but true state of affairs. Just look at your ketchup options next time you're at the grocery store.

@@NathanBuildsRobots Our local Microcenter has several aisles of 3d printers, accessories, filaments, etc. And it's not as well organized as the condiment aisle at my local supermarket. I have to check if they finally sold the pile (literally a pile) of Ender 3 pros that they kept marking down. Of course the reason for the chaos is a steady stream of consumers... so they must be doing something right.

Just discovered your channel and thanks for the excellent overview and reviews of the various 3d printers. I'm new to the world of 3d printing and I'm looking to purchase my first machine. I've looked extensively on the Ender 3 S1 Pro which is kind of my budget limit but now I found this video :). I don't mind tinkering with stuff and I have an old Shapeoko 2 CNC machine which I've had great success with. That said, as I'm getting older, I just want to stuff to work without too much hassle. Is this printer something you would recommend? (I would think so based on the title of this video)

Maybe this reply is coming too late, but I am also new to the world of 3D printing and have decided to get this machine even though I could afford something more expensive. I've spent hours looking at reviews and the Ender 3 V3 SE is getting really consistent great reviews. And I figure it's less risky of a commitment if you're unsure exactly what you'll want to do, and how much time and effort you will spend on the printing :)

Thanks for your reply and no, it’s not too late as I haven’t bought anything yet :). I’m going to hold off getting a printer until the end of the year. Yeah definitely. Oddly enough they made it so like 3 different components attach to the carriage, vs on the Ender 3 S1 everything was attached to the extruder, then the extruder was attached to the carriage. That made it easier to do quick toolhead changes on the S1. But now that they add a great feature for making quick tool changes easier, they change things around

In regards to your steel reinforcement video, I think you need to do a feasibility test where you make multiple handles with varying numbers of sheets of reinforcement. You may be on to something but will never know for certain if your amount of reinforcement is below what makes this viable. Ex: currently, you have one layer of reinforcement per 10 layers, but does changing to per 7 layers or per 3 layers make it stronger? I believe it would although there will be a point of diminishing loss there as well.
