A 0.7K/D player isn't going to notice a huge difference when playing against a 1K/D player. The vast majority of players are still just average, so most of the players in a lobby will also be just average. It's not even real SBMM. It's EOMM. When I played MW2019 most of my games I had teammates going negative to compensate. These are worse players being pulled up into my lobbies for the sole reason to give the enemies someone worse to shoot at to compensate for me and my 75% solo win%. Hardpoint was one of the more carryable modes so the game really had to try to get a somewhat decent match going balance wise. I cannot imagine that the teammates I was getting were having a good time. They often left the match. At least with ping based matchmaking I didn't have to suffer and try my ass off every game to pull a win out of my ass. At least my teammates weren't guaranteed to be bot burgers and at least the enemies weren't all guaranteed to be better than every single one of my teammates. My mere existence meant suffering for whoever was unlucky enough to be pulled up into my lobby to be put on my team. You think that's fair or fun? Is that any different for them than what'd happen with regular matchmaking? No. It doesn't make a difference, because in practice these players end up facing mostly average players, sometimes bad players and sometimes good players just as they would without SBMM/EOMM. For them not much has changed, but for a good player it's completely ruined the experience.

Every CoD these days is just a facade to sell live services and make players feel good about themselves, and what's even scarier is I see Battlefield creeping onto that territory more and more with each new release. If they ever activate SBMM outside of a ranked environment I'm gonna nope the fuck out so fast.

SBMM made me stop playing MWII after about a month or so because it was so mentally exhausting. I was put into the sweat lobbies facing people who played like their life depends on it, and I just barely fit into that bracket skill-wise, often facing players that were still quite a bit better than me. So I decided to play more casually, letting myself get steamrolled for 3-4 rounds in a row so the SBMM would put me into more casual lobbies, and as soon as it did, I would immediately get put back into the sweat lobbies the next round, because even playing casually I was a little bit too good for that lower tier skill bracket. I was essentially stuck in the sweat lobbies and forced to play like a tryhard against people who were often better than me, barely maintaining a 1.0 k/d, which is so mentally exhausting after working all day and could only bare a few rounds before getting off, or get railed every single round trying to relax and play more casually, which isn't fun.

You also do not mention that there's patents in MW2 that I call the "rig patents.'' Patents that rig the game in many ways to encourage mainly noobs and casuals to in-game purchase as much as possible. They hurt good to top-tier players the most by rigging against them the most. The chances are close to zero that they are already not in or not are going to be in MW3. You can look at the Rig Patents online and see what evil they do.

The main thing I felt again, like the past few CoD titles, is that the game is so inconsistent and makes no sense to me. Gunfights feel random, spawns are all over the place and overall the game has no flow. At this point I don't even know if it is just terrible or intentionally designed this way to force people towards 1KD. Because that is how the gameplay loop feels like, spawn, kill and die. Repeat. Other things I noticed is that the performance is quite bad, I get more FPS in 2042 on Redacted. The movement doesn't really feel that good either when you stop focusing on slide spamming. It feels like CoD players think that movement = slide cancel.

They did recently.. it was the optic legends match, where all of the new and original optic members played against each other in black ops two a month or two ago.. those former and current pros could not hit this blind side of a barn. I have to agree. This is modern warfare 2.5. Changing the movement and a handful of nostalgic maps does not cover up the fact that we have performance issues and stricter SBMM. High ping, inconsistent hit reg and server issues. and it’s definitely not my network. This beta has the worst spawn system I’ve ever seen in a call of duty game. I fear that this game will launch with the same performance issues as Vanguard. I am happy. I had the opportunity to play the beta because it just solidified my decision not to pre-order the game. I also believe this game will be heavier with micro transactions and pay to win bundles as we already have seen in MW2

I'm not a super skilled player but I used to like jumping into a COD game because like Battlefield there were nights where I would get on a team that was much better than the opponent and I would do really well and have a lot of fun, sure it would sometimes go the other way but that was part of the fun. Now it is nearly impossible for any of that to happen because you are always matched with people your equal, there isn't the chance of a fun night of just being on better teams, just constantly sweating your balls off.

The thing that turned me off were seeing how badly laid out spawns are on XclusiveAce's video. Estate's spawns are so bad, they give one guy an easy revenge kill on the entire team camping the estate by spawning him in the basement. 20 years of CoD and the spawn systems get toppled by CoD4's somehow...

SBMM .. When I started playing Call of Duty same as everybody I sucked, but what got me hooked on the game is my ability to see improvement. SBMM robs people of that sense of accomplishment. My last Nuke was in Vanguard. Hackers need to have their PCs and Consoles permanently banned when they get caught. Maybe first time charge them a $200 redemption but the third time they have a paperweight. It's the only inducement to stop these 'cheaters.' Hopefully Microsoft will implement if needed. An AI anti cheat detection program. Call of Duty now to me is a camo simulator and I hate to admit it a money pit for my PC.

It comes down to the 80:20 rule. Assuming a level playing field (no ridiculous aim assist, all skill levels playing together) I bet that 20% of the players get 80% of the kills in these games. It's zero sum and it takes 100s of hours to become competent, let alone get good. Getting killed is not fun. Therefore, make things more "fun" by making them "fair" so you can farm fees for cosmetics from the majority = more money. It's understandable and a niche that definitely needs to be filled. So long as alternatives like BF continue to exist then I guess it's all good

I agree with the incentive part for Activision in this. Of course they implement systems like these to increase revenue. And we can all agree how bad the current gaming landscape is when it comes to monetization. But I still argue that SBMM isn't all bad. It is there to improve the experience for a lot of, specifically new and infrequent/ casual, players, who also deserve to have a good gaming experience. The problem is, that there isn't choice in the matter and that SBMM is so strongly enforced in COD. Same with aim assist. It is necessary to remove the input capability gap between controller and M/B in a crossplay game, but is a bit overdone in COD without much choice to not play against the other input method.

On the point of sbmm! We ALREADY have ranked... That's where good players play good players and bad players are left behind and, play bad players. Pubs (public matchmaking) is like walking into a public bar and, offering a random guy a game of pool... He might be good? He may be average? Or he may be dog shit and, you start trick shots and toying around with him. Either way it's a public game and, it's a gamble if your up against bad players or good players... That's literally half the fun. No, you can't grind camos, you can't play around with different guns, you can't try 360° no scopes, you can't relax and enjoy a casual game of CoD. You need the best gun as fast as you can, with the best attachments as fast as you can so, you sweat every lobby with high paced octane. It sucks! A normal lobby consists of good and bad players in a nice balance. This way the good players commit to a rivalry with each other while the bad players try and stand their ground and, MAY actually learn something... What are they going to learn now? A lobby full of corner campers waiting for the match to end? It's so uninspiring. Don't you want some form of balance? Like a football team? Some players are very good and others around them support them and try their best. It's literally ingrained in every form of sport, game and fun. Some players are good some are not as good. My goodness me why is that difficult to comprehend? As a youth leader I can also say the youth who aren't so good at certain games still love participating. They engage and learn. They see the value in the participating. Gaining a greater understanding to have fun next time they play. You can't keep stressing the CoD community this way. Peace.
