The original Deus Ex game was one of the best of its kind in its day, but I don't know if modern gamers would enjoy it as much as we did back when it was released. A significant reason for its overwhelming popularity back then was that it was innovative and progressive in its gameplay and that would likely be lost on anyone playing it now for the first time. This is not to dissuade you from trying it. You may really get into the retro graphics and still appreciate the game design and story.

I think the first 15 minutes or so would be really off-putting, but as soon as you start to see all the options available (and secrets/off-the-beaten-path discoveries), then I think most people would fall in love with it

It was great to watch you play this game. I recommend for you to watch all the endings. I went with the self destruct in my first playthrough...but i was curious, and picked this one the second time. And after that i just watched the remaining two. And i really liked that i never felt like any of them is a perfect or even a good ending - even if choosing not to give any narratives to the public is the option i liked the most.

>4:20 The suspense is killing me XD But yeah, I can see you bitterly regretting ever saying that haha >7:49 Thinking about it, with Half-Life and Alien Isolation Deus Ex is possibly one of the top "vent crawling" games :) >12:11 It's because there are a couple of entry points in the building, one you got and another one that you're apparently on your way to explore. Add ladders to the list of squirrels :D >15:43 Actually you can disarm that mine without triggering it. From the angle you're approaching the mine can't detect you. I think what happened there is that you inadvertently shoved one of the crates and it triggered the mine... oopsies :) >21:53 For once one of those things is on your side... feels good right? >28:01 The message was generated by a computer but not your run of the mill computer. This where the girl who asked you to kill her in the DLC and the main story connect. >30:37 Unfortunately, nope. The minimalist approach was taken for Human Revolution. What carries over are your augs and praxis points if you have some unused ones (so you can eventually acquire and max all the augs at some point). Money and hardware are lost. >31:50 Not an AI but you're definitely onto something :) >33:04 Nope. Either Jensen is really incompetent using fire extinguishers or you have there the only fire extinguishers actually not designed to extinguish fires :D >43:50 The code you found was for disabling the lockdown but Jensen did that on his own. The code Darrow gave you allows you to solve a problem ahead. >47:25 Makes you regret not picking all the gas grenades, huh? :D >44:04 Too idealistic, no. No one can look at that and say that it was for good. However I have to agree with Darrow on one point he mentioned. To really start moving, humans always seem to need a kick in the ass, whether it is the prospect of losing money, a competitor suddenly gaining the upper hand or some sort of disaster striking. The fastest and biggest progress of humanity the past century were achieved in the middle of two world wars after all (three if you count the Cold War which resulted in landing on the Moon). Whether he's right or not, Darrow wanted to give a good kick in the ass to make things move -- preferably his way. He just chose the most horrible way to do it. >55:18 You realize that all of the "crazy" people are augmented in here and a good share of them are possibly able to lift heavy loads like you do? After all most of them were hired for construction work :D >1:07:28 It's rather ME 3 that did copy Deus Ex. Deux Ex has always been about this final set of choices to make, even in the original game (albeit there were a bit more convoluted about it in the old days instead of just going for the three buttons) so not surprising they go with that there :) Darrow offers you one future, the Illuminati offer you another and down the line Sarif will want to talk to you too. And of course, the decision is yours... It's rather amusing because when the end of ME3 was unveiled, most people exclaimed "Wow, it's like Deus Ex!". I suppose it all depends on which game you play first XD >1:13:00 And I'll be very surprised if you don't end up using it before the end of the game :) >1:15:18 I don't see what there is to be annoyed about. DX can be played gun blazing or in stealth. Crouching is part of the game when you choose the latter option. >1:18:33 Ouch! You're absolutely merciless! :D Although judging by the sound he makes, the guy seems almost relieved. It's quite troubling actually XD >1:28:18 Well, there's always the fourth option :) >1:30:04 It was the whole purpose of the research at Riflebank station. Remember the email from Darrow asking Burke when the next subjects would be ready? >1:47:47 I'd say quite crispy and overcooked :D >1:54:50 Not only that but this ending assumes that corporations will always make the right choices, because this is the only way everyone will benefit from this. I don't know about you but I have overwhelming doubts about that. Corporations looking for something else than making profit? That would be a first. Maybe Sarif is, but he's just one guy. Other corporations won't have the same set of rules. Don't forget that Zhao was CEO of TYM. In fact DXHR may be the only game where you only get a perfect ending mixing all of them. Because all of them contains a piece of truth, yep, even the Illuminati one. So in the end there is no "perfect" ending to this game. It's all a matter of perspectives. There is a canon ending though, the one Mankind Divided starts from. And I let you guess which it is :) >Detroit: Become Human I started to play it but never finished it. I guess the game didn't grab me enough or I would at the very least have finished it. Or maybe I was not in the right mood. I'm in no urge to go back to it though and curiosity is not really killing me on this one. The worst part is, I have no opinion about it, not even a bad one. >1:58:26 At the moment you killed the human computers that were running things, Panchea was doomed because they were the ones keeping Panchea afloat so to speak. Self-destruct would have just made things much quicker. >1:59:06 And the music you have in the background is the theme from the original Deus Ex. Because this little discussion between Bob Page and Megan has a lot to do with that (and curiously little to do with Mankind Divided). Well, that's one DX game under you belt now. Watching you go through it was very enjoyable. Hoping you'll find MD enjoyable too. At least you won't have any problem with a tiny HUD this time... They learned their lesson :D

Interestingly enough, regardless of which signal was sent, the truth is hidden by rumors and disinformation, and Panchaea collapses either way due to damage it sustained as a result of the Aug Incident.(As a way of canonizing the ending to Human Revolution for Mankind Divided). Not surprised seeing a similar thing was done the same for OG Deus Ex.

Awesome playthrough! Congrats for finishing the game! What is interesting about the different endings is that they feel "incomplete" in the sense that we usually choose one no because we agree completely with its content but either because it contains a point of interest of ours or it's the least of evil, from our point of view, compared to the others And thats just a reflection of what the ending is: no one won, neither the illuminati nor jensen, and even darrow at the end regrets of his actions, and the world has to just go on with what is left after the incident Pretty bittersweet if you ask me And yes, play at some point mankind divided, the original Deus Ex, and not least important, detroit become human (that last one made me cry a lot 😭)

Yes indeed. The Illuminati did not expect Darrow to do that and whatever signal Jensen sends is obscured by false information and rumors. Panchaea collapses either way.

39:05 Darrow is generally speaking right in his views, the problem is with the ways he decided to deal with the issues he describes. He's right, Illuminati already control the augmentation market, at least to a large degree, they (and being one of them Darrow as well) already sacrifice people to further their goals, they manipulate and control the world behind the scenes and with cybernetics and AI technology they can dominate the people, thus allowing to control where humanity is going directly. No longer they would need to go with underhanded tactics like blackmail, kidnapping, etc. They can just make it happen through controlling the minds. Darrow thinks that as long as augmentation technology exists plans of the Illuminati can't be stopped, they're just far too involved with corporations and governments that you just can't prevent them getting their hands on this technology. So the only way to avoid that, as Darrow sees it, is to make the technology itself look evil and dangerous, making people reject anything that is linked to it, thus giving them a chance against Iluminati's plans, giving them the freedom to fight back. But Darrow is also wrong in my opinion, in two major ways: 1) Illuminati will always find a way to spin things in a way that will ensure their success, as they control the media, thus even with Darrow forcing them to suspend their plans, it won't last forever, at some point when enough people forget about Panchea, Illuminati can just say "we have TOTALLY SAFE new technology" and get back to using cybernetics, just by calling them something else. 2) Just in general, no matter how hard Darrow tries to stop the progress it can't be done, as much as technology is dangerous, as much as it can harm us, we will still move forward with it. There will always be people who will try to make something useful, something beneficial out of dangerous technology and the other way around, seemingly harmless technology can be turned to cause great harm, this is inevitable. Darrow wants to end the issues that are created from his technology, but because of this he is blind to the other technologies that can lead to even more danger for the humanity. Even if technology of cybernetics would be entirely gone and Illuminati would lose all access to it, they already have contingency plans with other types of technology and even if those weren't available, do we really think they wouldn't find the way to control the world just through their already insane level of power, i'm talking mostly about money, their control over the media and influence over the governments. Darrow is missing that the problem exists because of the secret society he's a part of, not because of the method he created for them to use.

Can't wait for the continuing adventures of Adam Jensen in Mankind Divided. Adams story was supposed to be a trilogy but we're still waiting for the 3rd game hopefully they'll make it at some point. The first Deus Ex has a great story and was a very good game for it's time, sadly the game mechanics are a little dated as are the graphics, I hope that after they complete Adam Jensen's trilogy that they'll remake the original with the newer game mechanics and updated graphics, that would be awesome. There is a fan update mod of the original Deus Ex where they updated some of the graphics, sound and maps but they were limited with what they could do by the original games engine used, it's called "Deus Ex Revision" and is available on Steam, because it's a mod you have to own the original game, it's worth getting the mod though as it does give you high-res textures and it doesn't change the main game or story even though some of the maps are a bit bigger, also the mod is free so why not.

I have a general suggestion for your playthroughs and obviously just take it as one person's opinion. I find that after you finish a long game's playthrough and get to the "Ending" video that your concluding comments are often briefer than I'd hope for. I feel like your playthroughs are a nostalgic, fun journey, and I'd really like to hear your feeling/thoughts after you've wound down from them a bit. Have you considered producing short "final thoughts" videos after you have had time to digest and ruminate about the game?

44:29 way more forgiving then I am. I make it a point to blow Darrow's brains out after our little conversation. The LEAST he deserves. That last boss battle sucks. And luckily you had the EMP shield aug. Without it, it's a REAL Pain In The Ass. Also good call on the Plasma Rifle being able to smash through that. If you had a Laser Rifle, you could've simply shot through the barrier and killed Zhao in the first 10 seconds. XD Cheesy, but it's an option. And agreed. I generally go with Sarif ending. It's in human nature to improve ourselves. That won't change. You say it was arrogant in the end - nah. Wouldn't call it arrogance. Maybe a desire to be exceptional, but that's ingrained in all of us, whether we admit it or not. Btw it's non-canon, the canonical ending is that Jensen self-destructs the facility and 'dies' (he survives obviously) in the process. EDIT: If you decide to play the OG Deus Ex eventually, I suggest you install the Revision mod for it. It adds a lot of depth to the area maps (which are a little barren in vanilla, it is a 1999 game), and makes massive improvements to the enemy AI. Not to mention enables a lot of configuration options that were absent in vanilla, and also makes it more compatible with modern computers. Also it allows you to play it Human Revolution style, if you don't want to mess with skill points and just focus on augs. Vanilla DX is a proper RPG with skill-based combat.
