The longer we argue in words. The less time we spend fighting in wars. I may disagree with you and think what you are supporting is immoral but that doesn't mean I will stop engaging with you. If I believe in my own opinions I would also want others to agree. If my friends disagree I will try to persuade them.

One of my parents' neighbors use to be very nice to me. One day (I was barely 18), she handed me a pamphlet on Gun Control. I politely tried my best to explain to her that I didn't condone what most people called "Control" and that, unless a person is a reasonable threat to others, there was no reason to increase regulations on firearms any more than where thy already were. …She never even so much as looked at me since.

I don't end friendships due to politics. There's a girl in my life that voted for Hillary Clinton and I'm pretty sure she's a liberal. She even called me a Trumptard one day. But it's ok because I called her friend a libtard. I still love her (we're just friends) and she and I enjoy each other's company. You can have friends of different political leanings. Now, it's completely understandable if you want to end a friendship due to stupidity and unfortunately there's ALOT of stupid people that lean towards the left.

It is truly sad that people can't disagree without feeling some sort of personal animosity toward each other. You see it on both sides of the aisle. It is almost turning into a Montegue vs Capulet scenario where association with one or the other instantly paints you as unacceptable to the other side. Politics has always been contentious but the vitriol is almost to pre-Civil War periods where abolitionists and Slavery supporters were willing to engage in violence in pursuit of their goals. I would hate to see a Bloody Kansas scenario occur nationwide, it would be the death knell for our Republic. You can have differing opinions and still respect each other.

Its sad to see, someone as long as you said, just pass without trying to understand or achieve common ground. I can't speak for anyone but myself obviously... But I've recently cut ties with a few friends who very much fit the description of the gentleman with the glasses and navy coat and it was over politics. I don't mind disagreements but when it gets to the point to where its implied that you're racist, sexist, homophobic, transphobic, xenophobic, islamophobic, or any other bigot labels that seem to be overused in current political discourse because you hold certain political stances, political stances that are very common among many if not most Americans, it's really hard to maintain any sort of relationship. Tell me that I'm not educated enough on the topic at hand, that I'm not placing enough value on certain principles, or anything else. Again I don't mind disagreement. But a horrible bigot? How could that not end a friendship or relationship? Maybe I'm looking at this the wrong way, but I'd rather not be around people who have such a low opinion of me and my political stances. EDIT: Also many people's lives are objectively worse due to politics within the last few years. My parents insurance went up $1,000 (600 to 1600) a month under Obamacare, someone has to pay to subsidize the people who are getting insurance at a much lower rate. My family's insurance didn't go up nearly as much, we're not in the same income bracket as my parents, but still the few hundred extra bucks it did go up was a punch in the gut. So yes, our lives are objectively worse. And no, I never brought that up to any of the friends that I've cut ties with.

People act stupid. If you go on Facebook you'll see constant "memes" about this and people going, "sorry, this officially ends our friendship. It's not about different opinions, it's a moral issue!" Problem is, supporting ANY politician is supporting someone who has done immoral things, because all people have done immoral things. Supporting democrats does not make you more moral a person than your friend. Throwing a fit over it is bigotry, and ending friendships over it is just insane and childish.

I just saw this clip. I notice most comments are from 3 years ago. My oldest, closest friend of 40+ years literally CANCELLED ME out of his life after I posted something on FB THAT HE CALLED. “ dangerous”!,! Suddenly, this man , who usually called me ( we didn’t live close ) 1-2 a week. I’ve been a loyal friend to him for over 40 years. 90% of the time he’d do most of the talking, about his problems, his work, his life. I was always there to listen to him, no matter the day or the hour. After Trump was elected I was influenced by the media to dislike him , like every one else in my family. But, very quickly I began to realize that I was being Brainwashed by CNN and I began to question the Truth. I discovered the evil intentions of the LEFT AND STARTED TO EDUCATE MYSELF ABOUT POLITICS. LONG STORY SHORT, I LEFT THE LEFT. I WAS THOROUGHLY DISGUSTED BY THE MSM LIES AND THEIR OBVIOUS INTENTION TO DESTROY PRESIDENT TRUMP. I BEGAN TO REALLY LISTEN TO WHAT CONSERVATIVES WERE SAYING AND I TOTALLY AGREED WITH THEM MY FRIEND , ON THE OTHER HAND, HAD A SEVERE CASE OF TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME. I DIDNT TALK ABOUT POLITICS VERY MUCH WITH HIM BUT INE DAY I SAID TO HIM THAT I SUPPORTED TRUMPS POLICIES AND I EXPRESSED MY DISGUST WITH THE REPIRTING OUT OF CNN. MY FRIEND WENT INTO A 45 min. RANT ABOUT HOW EVIL TRUMP WAS. EVERY WORD OUT IF HIS MOUTH WAS RIGHT OUT OF CNN. VERBATUM! I didn’t argue with him. There was no point, I simply said, I agreed with his policies and I didn’t support the REPORTS OUT OF CNN. HIS RESPONSE WAS TOTALLY CONDESCENDING AND SANCTIMONIOUS. I WAS TOLD I WAS 100% WRONG AND SOMEDAY I WOULD REALIZE IT. SOME WEEKS AFTER THAT WHEN I POSTED A VIDEO ABOUT COVID THAT DUSAGREED WITH THE LEFT NARRATIVE, HE TEXTED ME AND SUDDENLY, AFTER 40 years, he said we no longer had anything in common, that he WOUKD no longer call me or talk to me. NOTHING COUKD HAVE SHOCKED ME MORE. THIS WAS SOMEONE WHO WAS LIKE FAMILY TO ME. SOMEONE I TRUSTED WITH MY LIFE. SOMEONE I LOVED DEARLY. SOMEONE I HAD A LONG HISTORY WITH. IF MY OWN BROTHER HAD DONE THIS , I COUKD NOT HAVE BEEN MORE SHOCKED. I WAS DEVASTATED. THIS ALSO HAPPENED WHEN I WAS VERY VULNERABLE AND FACING HEART SURGERY. IMDONT KNOW ANY PEOPLE ON THE RIGHT WHO HAVE TREATED A FREIND THIS WAY. LIBERALS WHO HAVE BEEN BRAINWASHED AND HAVE SEVERE TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME ARE THE PEOPLE WHO REACT THIS WAY, FOR THE MOST PART. I HAVE 7;siblings. All but myself and 1 brother are liberals who hated Trump. We DO NOT DISCUSS POLITICS BECAUSE THEY HAVE GASKIGHTED AND SILENCED ME ANY TIME IVE TRIEDTO SHARE ANY OPINION THAT DOES NOT AGREE WITH THEIR LEFTIST IDEOLOGY. I HAVE NEVER BEEN AGGRESSIVE ABOUT MY OPINIONS OR TRIED TO CHANGE THEM. IVE ONLY ADKED TO BE HEARD. THEY ARE INCAPABLE OF LISTENING. ITS A VERY VERY SAD STATE WE ARE IN IN THIS COUNTRY. I BLAME THE MEDIA THE MOST BECAUSE THEY HAVE SPEWED HATRED AND LIES FOR THE PADT 5 YEARS TO AN EXTENT THAT IVE NEVER EXPERIENCED IN MY 73 Years ON THIS EARTH. I HAVE 2 close friends who are Conservatives like me, and 2 other close friends who are Liberals. My 2 LIBERAL FRIENDS , IN THE BEGINNING ALSO TENDED TO GASLIGHT ME BUT OUR FRIENSHIP WAS MORE IMPORTANT, SO WE JUST DINT TALK ABOUT POLITICS. HOWEVER, THEY TOO, ARE SANCTIMONIOUS AND CONDESCENDING ABOUT THEIR VIEWS AND CONSIDER ME 100% wrong, and crazy for not agreeing with them . It’s a terrible feeling to have that between us. Kind of like the ELEPHANT in the room that yu just don’t talk about. I’d love to have a discussion, but I know it’s not possible from the few times I did try. Usually after bringing some issue up, I’d then get a video clip ranting about the Evils of TRUMP. SO AGAIN, I END UP EITHER BEING SILENCED, OR WED END UP FIGHTING. EVERYTHING TERRIBLE THATS HAPPENING IN THIS COUNTRY HAS COME FROM FAR LEFT RADICAL LUBERAL IDEOLOGY. HOW THEY DEFEND THAT IS INCOMPREHENSIBLE TO ME.

To Klavan: Nietzsche was not anti-semitic... he called himself an anti-anti-semite, recommended the Germans breed with the Jews, believed a pure race was one that "became" pure (i.e., the breeding of sufficiently qualified individuals in various races with those of complementary characteristics to form a newer, higher race -- his example was people from families of German police/soldiers to be bred with people from families of Jewish intellectuals), and credits the Jews with having given Europe some of its most significant individuals (Jesus, Spinoza, etc.) and argues that while the Jews may be capable of taking over Europe that they only wish to be accepted (and thus why we should help them by removing anti-semites from the country). That a German could be so philosemitic at such a time is remarkable, and you can't condemn him for it any more, probably less, than you can condemn America's founders for slavery (which is, of course, an ancient and unracial institution). Nietzsche was critical of Judaism and he would conflate different races with a kind of provisional character so as to criticize certain tendencies as a guide to individuals. He criticized his friend Paul Ree's work as being too "English" (i.e., moralistic/platitudinous) even though Ree was Jewish. But the harshest criticism he reserved for Germans, the best of whom he believed had become great by becoming "ungerman" or by degermanizing themselves. If he had a criticism of Jews it was in the success of their religious values in the form of Judaism and then Christianity (with a preference for the Old Testament).

I would conversely ask: When this same 'friend' enables or outright espouses Socialism/Communism and takes direct measures to ensure its success in our nation (with ALL of its subsequent tyranny and death), is considered to continue to be a 'friend' at all? It takes a extremely loose definition of 'friend' to encompass the continued use of the appellation. Thus one's politics DO reflect on one's beliefs and it is the individual that evaluates those held beliefs by others that determine that individual's continued use of the term 'friend' to those in question. I ask: how many 'friends' (not to mention family) were 'unfriended' by those patriots leading up to the Declaration Of Independence? I only see this meme of unending and universal 'friendship' being promoted by those who are the most ardent in remaking America into another tyrannical Socialist/Communist tyranny.

Nonsense! Politics drives governance. When people can slander you as racist or misogynistic or fascistic or Nazi or some combination of these or you are accused of benefitting from some sort of privilege, you are at risk of being oppressed under the law or through government policy. I'm racing to become proficient at something I hope is marketable to evade oppression. Understand, too, that merit, meritocracy, logic, and mathematical and scientific proficiency have all been attacked as unfair by nature, since the percentages of African-Americans, some ethnic groups, and women excelling at or working in these fields do not match the percentages of these groups in the general population. Even proficiency at something marketable might not provide protection from oppression. The prospect of being made a second class citizen is ample reason for me to lose a "friend."

I pay high taxes and deal with over regulation and for what? I’m sorry; but I want nothing to do with an Socialist anti-Second Amendment Democrat. I don’t care if they’re strangers, friends or family. I’m tired of being labeled a racists, homophobe, gun nut, and xenophobe. The best thing that can happen is the nation breaking up into one for Socialist who what open borders and the complete abolishment of the Second Amendment and one that follows the US Constitution and Bill of Rights. I was born and raised in a Democrat controlled city for decades and I now live in western NJ where it’s primarily a Republican controlled county. The differences in schools, quality of life, and economics is staggering. My rant is over.

It happens when people change religions too, or one becomes religious while the other remains anti-religious. Amos 3:3

Most of my neighbors are liberals. We don't talk about politics and we get along very well. I actually love my neighbors. How do I know they are liberals? Hehe it's a long story.

I have lost a few schoolmates and a couple of former coworkers because of poltical differences. Some were even christians mainly over Trump. They hated Trump that much even to the point that during the he got COVID and was sick. They were hoping he would get really sick and even die. I have strongly disagreed at times in my dialogue with any of them just pointed where I think they were wrong about Trump and how the media is to blame for fueling the divide still I have never unfriended any of them they unfriended me.

It’s fun though, I have a friend who is so far left in his beliefs. He barely worked a day in his life except for the last two years (we’re both 25 now) and he always feels so entitled to everything, and calls all republicans racist. He knows I’m a Christian too. We both grew up really close friends for the last 10 years and our other close friend in the group is black. I mess with my leftist friend every time he says republicans are racist, I say “yea man, I’m the most racist one of all” completely sarcastically and he tries to go around that because he knows I’m not and tries to point something out about other republicans haha

This is sad. I had friend growing up that was a Yankees fan and I was an Orioles fan but that didn't stop us from being friends.

Good lord gave us 2 ears and 1 mouth for a reason. Listen more and stop trying to win arguments. Different point of views are interesting and challenge thought. Through that you may become a strong influence on them by better understanding their view. Approach hot topics gently to keep the guns holstered so to speak. If it escalates then exit the conversation respectfully and gracefully. Practice will make you a respected person and influence to opposing thoughts. Power of the mind not the volume of your voice.

People are acting the way politicians are. Politicians didn’t used to be this nasty with each other. It’s pretty sad. Everybody needs to chill out and realize that most of us are all looking to improve our country and society. Some people are misguided, but intent counts for something.

Thank you, Father GOD, for the help that only you provide. I pray, LORD, we find solace and the ability to get past the feelings of anger and distrust that seems to be plaguing AMERICA. I pray for something positive, LORD, that we can focus on and that better days are yet to come. In Jesus mighty name, Amen.
