Chip didn't die. He literally cannot die. He's the physical encarnation of light and day, just as Dark Gaia is the encarnation of dark and night. He'll never appear again tho. Unless Eggman decides to try waking Dark Gaia again. So yeah, Chip will remain sleeping for some million years, and when he wakes up, Sonic and his friends will have died long ago.
