Transcript of the video: Coriolis Flow meter allows the flow of mass to be directly measured. A tube is located inside each Coriolis flowmeter. An exciter causes this tube to oscillate constantly. If there is no flow, the measuring tube oscillate uniformly. Sensors are located at the inlet and outlet and register this basic oscillation precisely. As soon as the fluid starts to flow in the measuring tube, however, additional twisting is imposed on the oscillation as a result of the liquid’s inertia. Now due to the Coriolis effect- the inlet and outlet section of the tube oscillate in different directions at the same time. The highly sensitive sensors pick up this change in the tube oscillation in terms of time and space. This is known as the “phase shift” and is a direct measure of how much liquid or gas is currently flowing through the pipe. The higher the flow velocity and thus the total flow- the greater the deflection of the oscillating measuring tube. The application of the Coriolis measuring principle doesn’t stop here! It can also be used to simultaneously determine the density of the flowing fluid. To do so the sensors also register the oscillating frequency, in other words how often the measuring tube moves back and forth in one second. From the animation, it is clear that a tube filled with water oscillates more frequently than a tube filled with honey, for example, which has a far higher density. Thus, the oscillating frequency is a direct measure of the fluid’s density. Both the density and the flow are determined simultaneously-but independently-via tube oscillation.

All values are displayed with its proper symbol (rho for density, °C/°F for temperature...)

Hi, What is the best available flow meter for measuring the flow of milk(Dairy products)? Is it Coriolis? what are the other types of flow meters available except below types Differential Pressure Positive displacement Velocity Mass Open channel Can you explain the applications of Coriolis flow meters
@endresshauser6 жыл бұрын
There are two good measuring principles for milk: Coriolis and Electromagnetic Flowmeter. Which one to use depends on your expecations. Magmeter will offer volumetric measurement with measuring errors of 0.2% to 0,5% depending in the model. Coriolis will offer mass measurement with measuring errors between 0,2% and 0,05%. Additionally, Coriolis measures also thedensity which can be used to determine the amount of fat of the milk. The other measuring principles are available but not suitable for milk as they cannot be manufactured in hygienic version. Applications for Coriolis are too many to be listed here.

What is the oscillation tube made of? How exactly does the exciter move the tube?
@endresshauser7 жыл бұрын
Most Coriolis mass flow meter manufacturers offer a range of different materials, depending on the material compatibility with the medium in the actual application. Most common material is stainless steel, but also exotic materials like tantalum or zirconium are available. The exciter works very similar to a moving coils microphone via electromagnetic induction. Usually a Coriolis mass flow meter has two oscillation tube. On one tube a small coil is fixated, on the other tube a small permanent magnet. As soon as a alternating current flows through the coil the induction forces the magnet to move.

At 3:00 there a slipup as you compare honny VS water , stating density of honny is higher 🤔 The viscosity is higher thats the true statement...not saying it doesnt pick up density , it does . But honny wrong example
@endresshauser2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your comment. The density of water at 20 °C is close to 1.0 kg/l, whereas the density of honey at 20 °C is between 1.38 and 1.45 kg/l. In this animation, only flow and density are measured, so the viscosity of the liquid is not relevant here.
