Yup, agreed. This seems to be the one thing that the West can never get right. For some reason... But look at a place like Japan. If you watch an anime, or read a manga, then switch to check out the other one. They are almost always spot on with each other. Anime more often than not, sticks to the source material to a T. I don't get why over here in the US, they just can't seem to stick to the source material... They always take SO many liberties. I don't know why? I just don't get it. Follow the comic, or book exact, and you would almost always have a super successful movie or show. Just like what happens in the anime industry.

@@Group-935 By all means: NO! Anime most of the time changes things like subplots or charakters, so they can put more of the story in their series. And Light Novel and Manga fans fume over it as much. BUT talented people who LOVE the source material do it. So most of the time they're great series with great characters and they just fuck up the chance of a second season because some (in the time when they make the series) unknown plottwists and storyline wont work anymore because of those changes.
@drake9634

@@neoxsendra2783 yeah but most of the time and I mean 80% of it they cut subplots that are more or less irrelevant/filler to give way so the story can go on, and they follow the fakin story. Total opposite from the hollywoodietes who feel they need to tell their OWN story through other people's stories, and we see it time and time again, Rings of power, the Witcher (and that other trash spin off), cowboy bebop, wheels of time, star wars (I know that there isn't a "defined" story past return of the Jedi, but since the control went to Kathleen "self-insert" Kennedy, the main movies went to shit, with a few turd covered nuggets of gold here and there (rogue one, mandalorian, andor)), and so on and so on, and this grinds my gears, because i loathe the arrogance of a hollywood urbanite writer with one or two mediocre tv credits who think they can top off the story of accomplished writers and creators while they obnoxiously sip on their Starbucks Venti and write the same script over and over again (their stories always has to have one of these elements, minority gud yt men bad, LGBT, and women gud men bad, or all three combined in a snoozesoup), and sorry for this rambling that wasn't at all connected with your comment apart from the first line, the brain just thought and my fingers followed, have a good day 👍

I would dismantle Netflix in their meetings. You chose to produce this show because of the rich story. You had all the material you needed to produce something amazing. You were fortunate enough to have an actor that actually knew who Geralt was and how to play him. You hired writers that don’t respect the material and who believe they know better then the book. Unfortunately that’s not how this works. It’s Netflix’s decision to make the show. It was their choice to hire the people they hired that turned this into a circus show. No one owes you anything, especially not the customers. Their whole job is to produce something entertaining enough for us the consumer to want to pay for the subscriptions. Don’t ever blame the people that you’re trying to sell to. it never ends well. That’s actually very weak and also shows the lack of leadership in that company. You had the material and you had the actor for something potentially amazing. It’s on them and only them. They deserve the backlash. Unfortunately they won’t learn.

I agree. There's many people that either read, watch, or play video games. Hardly ever all 3, but maybe 2. Many played The Witcher 3 video game, and many didn't play any of the games before that, which the series hasn't even caught up to. So I agree 100%, they should had done a copy and paste and it would had still been new to most The Witcher 3 fans, and people not so familiar with The Witcher. I believe a very small minority have read all the books, played all the games, and watched the whole series to where a copy/paste would had felt detrimental to that small minority.

Both have advantages and disadvantages to tell a story, because they are DIFFERENT IN ITSELF. There are A LOT of differences already by adapting the story, you DONT need to change the story itself for it to not be the same experience. There's like 14 people in the whole world.

I think back to watching behind the scenes footage of Peter Jackson and his crew making LOTR and how passionate and reverent to the source material they were. You can really see how much they loved making those films. This series now and has always screamed “product”. When the crew is working for a paycheck instead of having fun bringing something to life, Netflix’s the Witcher is what you get.

You have to remember a lot of this comes from the top, not the crew that is working on the ground. They probably are working for a paycheck as that is what they are allowed to do. They share some blame but I place more blame on the executives at Netflix and their "diversity inclusion" specialists.

Yeah, Henry (Geralt) has always been the best thing about this series, sadly he's been reduced to cameos for the most part. The dude was born to play Geralt, sadly the writers/producers were inadequate. Such a shame, the potential was there. But yeah, no Henry, no show. Not even the attempted gaslighting will save this already dead show. If Netflix were paying attention they would have thrown all their money at Henry to keep him and replaced the writers who have no respect for the franchise.

Anytime showrunners blame the fans, I can guarantee you that the showrunners screwed up so badly that they tried to shift the blame. When do they realized that they are ending their careers because the fans will remember who they are and will boycott every project they will have in the future. For your information, the showrunners (producers, directors and writers) are mostly come from Vampire's Diary, or rather diarrhea. So that's why season 3 feels and flows like a horror soap opera.

Okay lets stop being disingenuous here, woke identity politics is not at the forefront and not the reason the show is failing. Shows like house of the dragon had more wokeism than the Witcher but were leagues better. You know why? They had a coherent, interesting story that was also true to their source material. The witcher show's narrative (even from someone who didnt ready the books by season 2) was mediocre at best with the most convoluted web of too many character sub plots. Sure the race changes didnt help but what pissed me off is that the characters didnt even act like themselves based off their past experiences WITHIN THEIR OWN DAMN SHOW, let alone act like how they are supposed to based on the source material.

Ciri wasn't in Aretuza, she was in bathhouse in Gors Velen. She used Yennefer's talisman with locating spell on it to find Geralt and she rode towards him. (In books she left a letter, so Yen immidiately went after her) Wild Hunt appeared just like in books ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Recast is also easy to explain. Obviously Vilgefortz will give Geralt a tax-free face surgery with his staff after the party (S3E6-7 probably) and then in S4 they will give him lore-friendly headband

Henry was probably 'a nightmare to deal with on set'.... for the writers. Because he KNOWS his $hit about the source material. I know very little about the witcherverse, but as soon as they said that two actors would be playing 'the same character' the first thought that came to my head was 'they are going to pull a parallel universe thing' Henry will get killed, and Liam will be dragged out of another version of the witcherverse by someone probably to help a grieving Ciri (assuming she's allowed to be so normal, that is) It probably won't be one of the women that does it, though. Because *they* would of course, have got a perfect copy of Henry's version of Geralt. So its going to be some dude casting a spell, grabbing a Geralt, but because he's got XY chromosome's, he stuffs up slightly, and they get 'mostly Geralt' which will explain why he's a 'new version'. He made slightly different decisions, walked slightly different paths to get to mostly the same place.

Henry Cavill's portrayal of Geralt was the only saving grace of the show, apart from the occasional songs by the band Percival they used sporadically in the soundtrack. Forget Season 3, I couldn't get through Season 2 due to the confused writing and nonsensical plotting, editing and mise-en-scene. This was before his departure was announced and yet I dropped it at episode 4 and never picked it up again. For context, I am an avid reader/film/tv show watcher and a fantasy and sci fi aficionado plus Eastern European - this should have been right up my alley. The fact that it wasn't shows how weak of a show it ultimately was.

The problem is the showrunner and writers, they think they're geniuses. Every twist was telegraphed worse than Halibran being Sauron. The problem was they didn't take effort or time to actually use character development and make sure that every character is doing something meaningful in the show. They basically starred Henry and that's it, while killing characters off unnecessarily that don't actually die in the franchise, cause they want to be lazy, like I thought this show would be legit till right after season 1, I was like, "Wtf? These scenes aren't adding up clearly! And there's no creativity, they're just using flashback stories as a reply for the scenes to look intriguing!" So this made me loose interest in the show. They're only using the sultry actor as a way to sell off the show so people can still watch it. It's very sheepish and humiliating for themselves, not us
