Sadly it would get classified as a 'theory' in journalism. Also the $7 million claim wasn't directly from them (though I would believe it if it was), thus not much mileage there. IGN has dropped so low they've hit the bottom of the barrel, burst through and are headed towards the center of the Earth. The Wukong team never wanted anything to do with Sweet Baby, it is Sweet Baby who contacted them and "asked" 7m to give advices to the Wukong team on how to make Wukong align with ESG criteria, something that Sweet Baby thought was necessary because of the "modern audience". They warn Wukong that if they did not pay and make changes to the game, the game would be a failure. After Wukong refused those services( to the suprise of Sweet Baby) we saw a bunch of articles accusing the team of being sexist and making a game that is not diverse enough (coincidence ? I don't think so). In the end this is an absolute slap to Sweet Baby, not only the game is way more succesful than predicted but those 7m they kept must feel really good too.

The explanation of a Chinese KZbinr made it clear whilst some drawings shown were a bit what we used to call 'bawdy' they weren't directed at women and neither were his words and I think as you say, the translator knew that darn well. The motive was the narrative Chinese female gamers are subject to sexism with the journalist claiming to have spoken to anonymous women (also mistranslated?) so implying a game development company is sexist/misogynist links them to make the story sound more plausible.

Too bad, I already bought Super Robot Wars 30 (was really pumped the main series was finally getting a western release). The translators fit some of nonsense in, mostly making Ange from Majestic Prince seem like they're non-binary when the sort of joke with the character is that they're either male or female but you can't quite tell which because Ange is very shy out of battle but in it becomes a raging potty-mouthed berserker. I know someone made a mod retranslating it closer to the original but I don't like messing with files in case I screw things up. Still a great tactical JRPG with loads of anime mecha that expanded my watch list.

That Wukong dodge move is so F'n BADASS. Like when you doge and the little ghost afterimage stays there for a second. And the intro is EVERYTHING. The opening cinematic of the game is worth it alone. Im glad i preordered. Besides being an Anti-woke symbol, the game is original and actually good. I wasn't even gonna buy it until the woke mob started bitchin'.

I will never understand people's obsession with having to "see themselves" in everything in order to feel OK about themselves. Seriously, if you are that fragile then go do some serious therapy and self reflection. It is not the world's job to make you feel seen, accepted or validated. If you are a human being you can relate to the stories and struggles of other human beings because we are all part of the human race. A well written story with interesting and deep characters will be relatable to everyone on some level. The character doesn't have to look and act exactly like me in order for me to relate. It's ridiculous that people expect this. Minorities who make up very small percentages of the population being "represented" in absolutely everything isn't equal representation. That is over saturation in an attempt to force a narrative on everyone around you. People want to be entertained and have an escape from reality. We have zero interest in being told how to think. Go develop a thicker skin. Realize that the world does not revolve around you and life owes you nothing.

There is a language school in Beijing that teaches Chinese to international students. I heard that one of the professors formed an alumni group for translating Chinese games to other languages. My guess is that the English translation of Wukong was done by some Brits in this group. 😂
