As a Chinese Australian, Chinese is my second language, so I'm able to understand Chinese, I did looked up the original post by Game science and the IGN article, people keep saying its been mistranslated, but after reading them, I think it is been intentionally wrongly translated. The explanation of a Chinese KZbinr made it clear whilst some drawings shown were a bit what we used to call 'bawdy' they weren't directed at women and neither were his words and I think as you say, the translator knew that darn well. The motive was the narrative Chinese female gamers are subject to sexism with the journalist claiming to have spoken to anonymous women (also mistranslated?) so implying a game development company is sexist/misogynist links them to make the story sound more plausible.

The Wukong team never wanted anything to do with Sweet Baby, it is Sweet Baby who contacted them and "asked" 7m to give advices to the Wukong team on how to make Wukong align with ESG criteria, something that Sweet Baby thought was necessary because of the "modern audience". They warn Wukong that if they did not pay and make changes to the game, the game would be a failure. After Wukong refused those services( to the suprise of Sweet Baby) we saw a bunch of articles accusing the team of being sexist and making a game that is not diverse enough (coincidence ? I don't think so). In the end this is an absolute slap to Sweet Baby, not only the game is way more succesful than predicted but those 7m they kept must feel really good too.

Too bad, I already bought Super Robot Wars 30 (was really pumped the main series was finally getting a western release). The translators fit some of nonsense in, mostly making Ange from Majestic Prince seem like they're non-binary when the sort of joke with the character is that they're either male or female but you can't quite tell which because Ange is very shy out of battle but in it becomes a raging potty-mouthed berserker. I know someone made a mod retranslating it closer to the original but I don't like messing with files in case I screw things up. Still a great tactical JRPG with loads of anime mecha that expanded my watch list.

I got to say it again. A game is about escapism. Why the hell would I want to play as myself. If they made a character based on me, he would be done running after 20 steps, and say 'F it'.
