There is no reason whatsoever that makes a pie chart ok to do. To sum it up: A pie chart is a type of histogram (area adds up to 100%, but in a circle.) Pros: · Only one: they look pretty Cons: · Stats people will laugh at you. This plot has no place in science, because there are no cases where a bar plot is not better... · The problem is that the human eye is horrible at measuring angles and areas The analytics part is good enough, it is just the fact that you use pie chart that removes your credibility

Thanks for your input. I agree that they aren't the best for someone with a stats background, especially using Excel. Tools such as Python are much better for stats. I would add that bar charts are very intuitive in cases where you want to show fractional quantities. It is very important to communicate to nontechnical audiences and this is a good tool to share information graphically.
