I gain enormous amounts of energy when I accept that I cannot control anything and when I give up control and just trust the universe. Then I realize I am the universe. So much energy that was used to fight against the universe (myself) becomes freed up and so one can become more powerful just by simply giving up the illusion of control and trusting the universe. As Christians say ‘Let go let god’. It’s true.

This is a great lecture, but I have to wonder about his understanding of "hintergedanke". I have a decent understanding of German so when he said it in this context it made complete sense, since the literal translation would be "behind thought" but when I looked it up, and then asked my German speaking friends for the translation, the definition in English is "ulterior motive" which doesn't make sense in the context he's using it here. Any German speakers out there that can better my understanding?
@Marcus-xt9zh2 жыл бұрын
I am Austrian and therefore a native speaker. Though the lecture is brilliant, he uses the word "Hintergedanke" in the wrong way. If I got the speech correctly, he wants to say that there is a certain "suspicion" that.. However the word "Hintergedanke" is used in German f. e. if you do something with a HIDDEN MOTIVE" that something else will happen as a consequence or side effect. Therefore it is something very conscious, intentional or even calculating
@youcancallmeana2 жыл бұрын
@@Marcus-xt9zh Thank you Marcus. Yes for me it doesn't really take away from the lecture that he misuses the word, it's so easy to make mistakes in translation! But I did want to clarify my own understanding. Merci vil mal!
@cecilcharlesofficial2 жыл бұрын
I won't argue with any native speaker (and so Watts could really be using it incorrectly). That said, we do seem to be experiencing 'hidden motives' of some kind, given so much of our experience (and the problems therein) come from not seeing things correctly - having been hoodwinked (even voluntarily). And for most of our lives we're not aware that we've been tricked. It's like when Watts often describes existence itself as "a kind of a guru" - presenting us with things we often immediately misinterpret - as part of the larger game. Now I'm playing word games, I know. But in a sense, life is one kind of thing (the incessant fight to survive, expand, burgeon), but it has an ulterior motive of something else entirely: waking us up.

About expanding our thoughts! The first sparkle of enlightenment may give us the illusion that we have the answer and feel the surge to share it and express what comes with it. In fact this may indicate strongly the start of a long journey with a lot of trials and errors. Not just Religious people are exposed to feeling inspired. Popularity at an early stage may in fact be a major hurdle in disguise mostly when our thoughts have not been fully integrated or tested. Some movie or music stars may not be happy because what they express does not match with their genuine feelings. Narcissism tends to bypass the awareness of a type of Napoleon syndrome with social consequences. Constant exposure to non scientific Humanities is the necessary accompaniment to the growth of Citizens who constitute Nations.

It’s crazy that people once thought that the earth was the centre of the universe and now i can see it that they were in fact right and that the centre of the universe is within the person who observes it. When you look at anything such as a tree the tree is not over there the tree is in your consciousness it makes no difference if you are looking at a tree 100m away or a galaxy 100 light years away you still see it in your brain.

Entanglement is like two computers simulating themselves and their partner perfectly. By becoming loving, you can "simulate" more of another persons "energy", which leads to entanglement. If I could predict what you're thinking, and you could predict what I'm thinking, we would be entangled. Prediction would not be possible if the universe didn't have set logical rules. The reason my computer is MY computer, and not anything else is because of its history, internal and external. While the universe maintains an overall balance of energy, local points can spontaneously create and destroy it. Gravity is just local prediction skewing due to emergent information, and dark energy/ expansion is inflation (like money inflating... you can print lots of energy, but it will devalue it). When people agree on an idea, its like a quantum energy state being reached. As we all well know, what we know is not always the truth. However, we still act on it despite that...
@technomage67362 жыл бұрын
Quantum entanglement (if that's where your reference originates) involves the connection of opposites. A spin up entangles with a spin down, so this would be more like a yin and yang. As Watts says "Without valleys there are no peaks" It is the 2 together that create a whole.
@NotBirds2 жыл бұрын
@@technomage6736 When you are not observing the yin and yang, it becomes something else. A lack of information is still a kind of information, but it has different properties. When two photons gain 100% information about each other, their local simulations sync, because their potential outcomes align. Its like entering the same seed in Minecraft, and getting the same map. When two people know each other well, to the point of love, they sync.

let's say this world is a play... why haven't god made something real ? why has god not started a family? if god is lonely but can do anything then that would make sense no ? a god equal to god and the second half of god in a sense... you might say god does not need it but then again why does god need us/ourselves ? if god can only do the dream as a play then god couldn't be all powerful right ? you could say god can change the energy to make what god wants to happen happen but that is also an illusion of what god is the image of god seems lonlier and lonlier and seems to make god suffer. anyone else seeing this ? is god trying to make something real with god's dream or has god given up on what's real? and by real i mean what god thinks is real/what really is real, is reality just energy and nothing else and just boring unchanging state of reality ? this does not bode well for people who think there's life after death as it's a never ending repetition of patterns we've all done time and again... we're just as much stuck as god is in this cycle... how many times have we/god done this play ? how many more times will we do the game ? it all comes back full circle any way we do this and it's just plain torture to keep doing this..
