Agreed. The Irish Economy is far stronger than the British Economy, and yet there are plenty of Irish, several *decades* away from Pension age, haven't had Gas on for 2 years either!! You switch to 1 source when you had "dual fuel" so that you would only have 1 "Standing Charge" for the National Grid's "Hardware" (supposedly), and 1 Carbon Tax, rather than 2 of both on Gas & Electric. *In addition to* watching your Unit useage. Not worth it! Gas is the biggest pain in the hole bcoz the kWh useage alters with the "caloric value" of the m³ and fO¢k you'd wanna be a Maths genius chasing the sneaky b@xterds in Energy Companies like Airtrickery (Airtricity). I've caught those effers out *3 times* fiddling the figures & cooking the books on several Bills at the m³ count *and* the kWh count. Not just the monetary count/value!!! Sneaky sunzuffbetchez!

I still cannot get it how come can it be so expensive. I used to pay around £250 a month for electricity back in 2023. I moved to Italy and I pay around 70€ 😅. Similar consumption, same energy.

The price rises are NOT out of control of the energy companies. 1) They chose to mothball the majority of gas storage meaning they buy more gas on more expensive spot prices rather than in advance. 2) They lobbied for energy efficiency measures to come out of fuel Bill's creating a cap on energy efficiency measures a d abused that system for example by sending shower aerators to people who neither needed them nor requested them. Energy efficiency measures should come out of general taxation with higher taxes on the wealthy. 3) They have routinely charged around 50% more for loft insulation than local builders. The reason for this behaviour is to keep prices high so that bonuses and dividends remain high. The energy companies must be nationalised and energy efficiency measures paid for out of general taxation.

I found a way to keep heating on get cheap deal on direct debit then just pay what I can I never set up the direct debit as it was £250 a month so never set it up thay can do nothing about it I just drip feed sse what I can when £50 to £100 a month thay don't bover me and my family stays worm

Just an observation. Everybidy compoains about cist of mliving. Reality is that Pensions rose hugely due ti the recent inflation. Many pensioners (like my mum, and many others with decent pensions as well as givt pensions, are actually not needing this £300. Its ONLY £300 allowance. Making a big issue over this is stupid. Its a waste of time for many peoople. if pensioners are that desperate then they need to get money from their council who have an amergency fund for such cases! (I'm not sticking up for the Govt but reality is that these pensioners wouldnt be in trouble if their relatives got their fingers out and gavce them a little help to appeal to the council.)
