Hello again Tom. I met you at TEAC in New Mexico. Since then I have started with plans for an electric airplane to advertise Thorium nuclear reactors. I'm planning on going to the university and using them to help with the design and construction of said plane. This should give you an opportunity to meet with them and possibly sell a salt loop to them. Working on it ! This is what it is going to take to bring your product the public awareness it needs. In the process of designing the wings to hold batteries. Taking a Piper Arrow wing and dissembling it now to find out how to place batteries into it. It is really not a problem, just need to coordinate with university so as to have a foot in the door for bringing in what would be necessary for a thorium plan of action. If interested in helping, feel free to say.

What country/regulator have you applied to? These days getting a license from a regulator is by far the hardest, most expensive, and time-consuming part of the "journey". This is the case for antique PWRs, for a MSR breeder that they know nothing about it will take much longer and cost 10x as much. Terrestrial Energy started their application to the Canadian regulator on day one of business many years ago and they are only about halfway through the process. And they have the simplest non-breeder, LEU-fueled reactor in the world. I hope you can find a country/regulator that values clean, safe, reliable, and affordable energy that this world desperately needs. Canada seems to have these values but their regulator is only slightly better than America's NRC. They have an 11-year process with no guarantees of 11 years. I don't know of such a country but hopefully that will change soon. Until then coal will remain King and only get stronger.

Good Luck with your project. I believe that one of the claimed advantages of the reactor is that it is small and can provide decentralized power where it is needed. I think there will be challenges regarding regulatory and security constraints with this approach.

Very interesting and certainly looks like the future. Will there be radioactive waste left behind after the reaction is retired? What happens to the waste? And is there any upcoming technology that can reduce the radioactivity or conpletely remove it from the waste. As you can probably tell I don't have a full understanding of nuclear energy, but I can't understand why the materials are still radioactive after retirement and why the materials cannot be completely depleted so that no radioactivity remains?

What, if anything, can you learn from the Chinese test plant? Are they completely "closed" up or do they publish some of their progress/ findings?

It is very limited the information that they are releasing. Seemingly the test reactor they have built is more or less a similar to the MSRE reactor from Oak Ridge in the 50s

China has already commissioned a thorium molten salt reactor in dec 2022. Its fully operational. But not yet a commercial product. That will take time. But the key thing is that they have moved beyond prototype.

Thorium might be 3 times as abundant as Uranium, but it takes 10 times as long to breed fissile U233 from fertile Th232 as it does to breed fissile Pu239 from fertile U238. The problem is that the half life of the intermediate isotope Pa233 is 10 times longer than the half life of the intermediate isotope Np239 in the U238 to Pu239 cycle. Which is why India planned a 70 year program to get a full fleet of reactors based on the Thorium cycle. That was 50 years ago and they're still in the early stages. So it'll be another 70 years before they can breed enough U233 to run the country on Thorium.

With powerful root infrastructure, you can't just offhand dismiss cyclical evolutions like Generations III and IV have introduced in the field. Not only did India have the deficit of Generational advancements since the Nixon Administration in the 70's; but they were extremely suppressed by said Nixon Admin in opting for Nuclear War tech, instead of continuing Thorium Reactor tech. Trillions of dollars of profits resulted in this suppression from bought-and-paid-for politicians and their fossil fuels billionaires funding them... and it CONTINUES with the likes of a Joe Manchin that's heavily invested in fossil fuels, AND writes policy for baseload energy in the USA. If Nixon wasn't one of humanities greatest criminals in history; not only would India have the benefit of full US cooperation, but France and other Western/NATO countries would already be far more advanced as well. Now with increasingly cascading CO2 events compounding; we have to accelerate this tech EVEN MORE than any other human adaptation, in human history.

As a danish citizen it is beyond my mind that there are little or no interest in the possibilities of this Technology from our politicians here in Denmark. They go for Wind and solar - and they talk about Nuclear tech, as if nothing has changed for the last 40 years. So sad😢

Problem is that it will take a long time to progress from initial experimental molten salt hardware (not even with radioactive fuel) to a tested approved reactor for manufacture, possibly 20 to 30 years. On account of the technology being rather exotic, obtaining approval and certification will be particularly challenging. Investors will have to be very patient before they see a return on their invested capital.

Huh? China has a TMSR out in the desert, and it's licensed for test operation. I hope the tests go well so the technology can scale to become more affordable.

@@ZweiZwolf It will take decades, and renewables are being deployed at a rate of 380 GWatt capacity per year at the moment. Energy storage systems are well underdevelopment. With a bredding blanket, Thorium reactors are great for producing Plutonium for nuclear bombs, so the mi,itary love Thorium reactors.

@@thewiseperson8748 Decades? Only if it were left to the West. China wants Thorium reactors for many reasons, specifically to replace black thermal power, and is strongly incented for environmental and stabilization. China installs more energy storage (ex. pumped hydro) than anyone else, and is deploying thermal solar for the same reasons. While Thorium can be used for breeders, China's primary use case is baseload generation in deserts or cities where they can't dedicate large bodies of water for PWR. That said, China is short a few thousand nukes compared to America, so it wouldn't hurt for them to make a few hundred more H-bombs.

Focus on one industry with deep pockets, like container ships companies or countries with non-nuclear aircraft carriers or submarines. Once the money is flowing you can diversify.

Always focus on non moving things first. This is perfect for communities. The energy density of fossil fuels is very hard to beat for moving things. Nuclear competes but is 100X more costly.

You could have invested in NuScale because after they cancelled their fully NRC approved design and even received $2 billion in taxpayer funding. Their investors are now suing them.

Why water as a moderator? You decrease power efficiency and increase complexity by useing watter. Graphite is a far better moderator. Alows for higher temperature operation and lower pressure in the core design.

In my opinion, using heavy water as the moderator, as long as it does not boil, is a very good idea. Liquid nuclear fuel with liquid moderator, makes criticality control easy.

If you can pull this off you will be the rulers of the world . Baae load energy at a price that beats all others . Plus you get to determine the price . The EU laws at the moment force all sources of electricity to be priced at whatever is the most expensive source..

@@chapter4travels They are NOT operating commercial reactors. Until you actually build a large scale OPERATING reactor and run it on a commercial schedule, you will never know all the issues. Replacing reactor vessels and associated piping every 4-7 years seems like and expensive option in an industry that already costs the most to produce power, not to mention the waste issue.

We tried molten salt in reactors, it failed, it became obsolete technology. It was completely destroying the pipework and was deemed unsafe, simply too corrosive.

It didn't actually fail, the reactors at ORNL were functioning. It was discontinued for several reasons, mostly political. The corrosion issue we have solved through our method of purifying the salts. We can purify these salts to such an extent that corrosion occurs at such a low rate that it is not a concern, even for stainless steel.

The problem is that neutron irradiation leads to neutron embrittlement, wherein corrosion occurs along dislocation crystal planes in metallic reactor components. All he Copenhagen Atomics studies are done with non-radioactive salts and are therefore useless and not representative of a real-life reactor. Indeed, the matter is even worse; on account of Copenhagen Atomics work being done with non-radioactive salts, a false sense of achievement is likely to arise.

Please scale up production. So sick of everyone yammering about the climate like ninnies. The climate will be fine. These things are why. Fusion will eventually happen too well before it's ever a problem. With all the money spent on climate change, we'd have built thousands of these things which we didn't have to try hard to figure out. There will be a blip in global temperatures by 1 - 1.5C and that's about it. It's not going to be the end of the world. By 2200 - 2300 excess carbon release will be phased out and the whole equilibrium will slowly return to normal as if the industrial revolution never happened. Except we'll have all the machines and practically limitless energy.

The problem you face now is the tiny fact that wind and solar have moved into the slot that you hope to take and they don't have obvious hatred attached to them. And Americans are stupid now. They operate on a feeling as apposed to research. Only about 40% would even be able to relate to what you are saying here.
