In the field of ecology, the energy transition is one of the main topics discussed at lengths of COPs. Will our societies be able to switch from a fossil fuel regime to a new model based on renewable energies? The question has been discussed for decades, reports and concrete experiments succeed one another, but for Arcadia, we have chosen to approach the question differently. To return to basics. What is a real energy transition? Has such a turnaround already taken place in the history of mankind? What can the history of energy tell us about this climate issue? To dig this angle, we welcomed Jean-Baptiste Fressoz, a historian of technology and environmental sciences and a researcher at CNRS.
