I am so glad I came across your video! I have been in tears over this physics class and you taught me something in under 6 minutes that I couldn't even understand in 3 hours of class. I only wish I found them sooner. Hopefully if I pass this class I can watch these for physics 2. Thank you!!

So w is equal to integral of force x distance. That's why the Area under the force x distance graph shows work done. I had a lab on this and found the answer.

Hi Sir, I´m having problems understanding why this is the case. Firstly, It seems to me that the graph can be used only when a force is applied continuously throughout the displacement. It would not be accurate if the object is propelled by short bursts of force. Secondly, If the force applied is not linear as you have depicted here, but rather parabolic, then would the work still be equal to the area? In other words, since in W = F*d*c, d is the displacement caused by F, then wouldn't irregular force cause irregular displacement? How do you then prove the sum of these Fk*dk equal the area?

Yes, only if the force is constant. If the graph is curved then you would have to use calculus to determine the area under the curve.
