One of my favourite Irish Locomotive videos. Funny too how it begins with the birds chirping peacefully and ends with the thunderous roar of the 141s :)

Absolute gem of a video along with your other's.Sadly its a scene that's long gone, from a time that had so much more variety between passenger and freight movements.Brings back some great memories of hanging around Clonsilla station during the summer holidays not knowing what would go past next. Thanks for posting.

Fishplate your videos are just fantastic. I love them all they seem to tell a lovely story all by themselves and give a unique view into the world of Irish rail freight before we lost it. The setting of your videos, the lads at work you can almost appreciate the hard graft they are doing. Add to that the wonderful sound of the birds whistling and it all just comes together. The best part for me is the track before continuous weld because the clank-clank, clan-clank sound. It was just a powerful memory, that and the fantastic smell of oil and diesel combined that you could always get from the old freight trains. Great work.

Just like the Kerry line line when we used to cross at stations , when running through you threw down one and then get your arm through the one you were picking up. A speed of 10mph was the non stop exchange speed. Great film well done.

Another lovely bit of Irish Railway history - there is something very Victorian about the exchange of the staffs - the locos may have changed to diesel, but the method of working the system didn't seem to change for many more decades!

This would be fantastic if we were looking at video of a heritage railway. I can only hope that both the rolling stock and infrastructure have improved greatly since this film was shot.

Altough only empty, this was quite a long train for Irish means, and with only 900hp the 141's were not the most powerfull locomotives. So to keep a bit of speed when the track isn't level anymore you need a pair of them, one could get this train up an incline, but at a very low speed. The departure is proper Irish style as I have seen on more videos, it seems a long time before the locomotives start loading up, or is it the brakes that still need to release when throttling up? Love the sound of these old EMD's.

I have a video uploaded on KZbin of ballast working in Enfield in 1998 with a single 141 class heading a ballast out of of the station. I'd say that's the exception rather than the rule!! My recollection is mainly of double-heading!

You have really put an effort into your reply. Maybe you should complain to Irish Rail instead of ranting on hobbyists video. One word SAD...
