Bisu's winrate is actually insane for someone who hasn't won ASL before. I think he has the highest winrate out of anyone who hasn't won, especially because his winrate is better than many ASL winners (Royal, Mini, Jyj, Shuttle, Light)

Reading between the lines here. The win rate is superficial because it’s often against a lower tier opponents. Once he comes up against a formidable opponent, whether due to nerves (unlikely after decades long exposure) or else, he doesn’t succeed. Evidently I didn’t think my comment through before posting because it makes less sense with each passing minute.

⁠​⁠@@andrewferguson6901no not really. 7 mutas are required to one shot scvs but 8 mutas for +1 armor. But Zerg players makes 11 mutas for a full control group plus a few more to rotate injured ones out. If they stoped at 7-8 then yes but that’s never unless they tech switch.

Love this game, love the speed that this is coming out at, so happy Ro24 is over, at least we got Bisu in and I don't even like toss half the time. I'm not quite sure how I feel about the massive upsets and great players going out, I always hate bo1s for that, also they're so much less content, this whole video was like an hour of BW, bo3s are way more exciting.

I can't believe how few games Bisu has against protoss in ASL

muta bounce does 9+3+1 dmg. marines have 0 armor to start, with +1 armor, assuming the muta attack bounces 3 times, u are effectively reducing 3 dmg per single muta attack, albeit spread across different marines. also +1 armor marines it takes 3 hits to kill instead of 2 from unupgraded lurkers + sunkens. traditionally marines do so much dps that the point is to kill everything before they get to u, but vs mutas/sunkens they are generally trading dmg, so armor is pretty good in this case. however, caveat is that mutas are generally sniping vs 1 marine, in this case with >5 mutas hitting 1 marine it will die anyway, so having more firepower to chip away the mutas would be better in this case, the armor however will protect rest of the group from taking bounce dmg. in a mass'ed attack move, armor is for sure better

So when comparing +1 infantry weapons vs. armor against ununpgraded muta/ling, there are a few things to consider. 1. The two upgrades have the same cost and take the same time to research. 2. Armor is better than weapons against lings (reduces ling dmg from 5 to 4 instead of increasing marine dmg from 6 to 7). 3. Weapons are slightly better than armor against mutas (increases marine dmg from 6 to 7 instead of reducing muta dmg from 13 to 10.5). 4. Weapons are far better than armor against sunken colonies (increases marine dmg from 4 to 5 instead of reducing sunken dmg from 20 to 19.5). 5. Armor is slightly better than weapons against drones (reduces drone dmg from 5 to 4 instead of increasing marine dmg from 6 to 7). 6. When mutas dive your turrets, armor is irrelevant, and only weapons help protect them. 7. When marines hit hatcheries, overlords or other defenseless units, armor is irrelevant, and only weapons increase the effectiveness. So armor might be preferable to weapons if you are facing a high proportion of lings compared to mutas. But since most damage usually comes from mutas, weapons seem better in most cases. And they are definitely better at dissuading mutas from diving turrets. EDIT: My (3) is still true if mutas have +1 weapons, but less so. +1 armor reduces +1 muta damage from 14.44140625 to 11.83203125, while +1 weapons still increases marine dmg from 6 to 7. So armor is a -14.5% to muta DPS, whereas weapons is a +16.7% to marine DPS. So not much difference.

(3) Shouldn't it be "13 -> 10.5"? 9 + 3 + 1 = 13 Your numbers assumes the Mutas spread attacks the Marines, which is not what we see in matches. Armor doesn't change that 5 initial glaives kill a Marine, however the bouncing glaives goes from dealing 4 to 2,5. So armor is -0% to target DPS, but -38,5% to splash DPS. Weapon upgrade takes Mutas from 21 shots to kill to 18, which I think is the more important number than raw DPS percentages. (2) This is also why I think you are correct in your assessment here: armor takes Marines from 8 hits to 10 hits, while weapon upgrade doesn't change Zerglings from being 6 hits (unless 5 Marines hit 1 Zergling before it heals 1 HP). As someone else pointed out in the comments, the armor could have been anticipation of quick Lurkers, as that takes Marines from only 2 hits to 3 hits.

@@HasekuraIsuna Yeah it should be 13, not 12. I'll change that. Armor can protect a marine from 5 mutas if they don't attack simultaneously and the marine is healed by a medic. It can also protect a medic from 7 mutas. But yeah, it's not great. Most of the effect does come from reducing splash damage, which is still very important. For instance, with no armor, 10 mutas can kill two stimmed marines at once.

You can hit more Scourge than you need on a target, it takes some few ticks for the damage to transfer. So you could sacrifice 12 Scourge on a single Corsair if you don't manually target, because whatever is the preferred target of the first Scourge is probably going to be the preferred target of the next.

30:07 another thing about +1 armor is does if impact lurker spines or sunken colony hits? And on the flip side does +1 damage actually change TTK for marines on anything important like lings. For example lings have 35 HP so 6 shots to kill with +0 (6x6 = 36) and with +1 (7x5) ifs only 5 hits and for mutas it goes from 24 hits to 20 hits which is a 17% increase in TTK against mutas. I’m skeptical.

It just threw me off a bit when he said it. He is one of the best BW players of all time and part of the small group of humans on the entire planet who have made successful careers out of BW gaming. If he doesn't consider himself to be a pro gamer, then who the hell is? Could also be one of those stupid KR humble things they do in interviews.
