He loves Zi Qiu and Ling Xiao like his own sons, and it hurts him when they’re hurting. He knows Ling Xiao has been losing sleep over his mother who reappeared, and he can’t bear to hear others reminding him that Zi Qiu is only a foster son, and so Zi Qiu should behave and be filial to repay him. In his mind, his sons are the best, and they don’t deserve hearing these harsh words from others.

there were so many heartbreaking scenes in this drama but this one touched me in a different way. This man loved these boys as if they were his own and because some of their biological family members couldn't understand his heart, they constantly belittled the care he provided for these kids. He did what they wouldn't do and since their hearts are black, they just couldn't fathom another human actually loving these boys.
