[ENG] BJYX candies 🍭 My thoughts on the 2020 Tencent Awards and why didn't Yibo and Zhan ge talk?

After watching the Tencent Awards from a few nights ago, I was somehow left with a sad and empty feeling :( Am I the only one?
Not only was there no interaction between them, there was just so much sadness in Yibo's eyes the whole time and Zhanzhan's smiles looked strained. The only time he sort of genuinely smiled was during his performance when he saw (and was most likely touched) by the sea of red and (maybe) bjyx-related banners.
So, to make myself feel better, I thought I'd do a chat about it and did a short candies segment as well. I know I rarely do bjyx videos but I thought this was a special occasion. Did you feel the same way after watching the award show?
Obviously opinions are my own, and based on my own observation.
I'd love to hear your thoughts.

I think many fans forget the big picture that Tencent Awards is not like some western awards where if two artists happen to be together, they would be able to be lovey dovey or be extremely carefree to show their relationship. GGDD have garnered so many new fans in one year’s time (since the last TC awards ceremony) and I bet many of us were watching Chinese award shows for the first time last weekend. Last year’s event was an anomaly because all the unfortunate events didn’t happen at that time plus I bet their management companies didn’t expect them not to hold back their interaction (I don’t know why, given their extreme chemistry). I based that assumption on the extreme difference on Weibo night which was also attended by officials. If you did watch the whole awards show last weekend, the overall mood was very different this year to the point of being sombre. My impression was that the majority (if not most) of the audience attended for either or both of them. For both, especially XZ to sit in the VIP seats throughout the show would have caused some fans to constantly call out their names and perhaps overshadow the whole show (yes, we may not care but the organizers do and there were so many big name artists in attendance). We also know both of them are very respectful towards other artists in the industry so this may have been a mutual decision by all parties too. Let’s all remember that as far as we know, no other artists were there with their partners so it’s not couples’ night at Tencent, y’all! This was their first public appearance at the same time and I felt they were also nervous especially Yibo who is more open between the two of them. You know how it is when you try really hard not to show emotions or reaction to someone? Awkwardness ensues. TLDR 😂 I feel grateful they were able to appear at the same show and stand on that stage after an arduous year. Understanding the culture and mindset also goes a long way (and I do as I’m from the same background) in setting my expectations of that night. It was a baby step and I would follow their cue in whatever they feel comfortable and appropriate for the next public appearance. Let’s enjoy their professional work and be grateful for any glimpses of their private lives they decide to show us because after all, they are more than entitled to not have fans dictate their lives.

They need to promote their new shows, if they interact as before then all focus will be on BJYX, it is not a good strategy for anything. Not for their new shows, GG especially doesn't need everyone talking about BJYX after coming back. They are fine. staying backstage together is definitely better than showing off in public.

Not bjyx fan but I do love both of them. The whole atmosphere with both of them was so awkward and tense that made me even uncomfy to watch. I felt like Yibo just want to get over with it and get out of there. I was a bit sad, upset and frustrated with the whole situation. Friends or not, they don't deserve this kind of nonsense. It's really hard to watch both of them trying to avoid eye contact, let alone smile at each other. The only good new is Zhan ge came back strong and I applaud for his brave soul. The support of fans were incredible.

Agree that they need their privacy. I watched the streaming; I felt happy as XiaoZhan made his comeback; he’s stronger and wiser, yet hurt at the same time just because Yibo and Zhan can’t freely interact in public. I do understand how conservative it is in China, I have seen it. On the other side I have to say the C Show Biz is indeed a living hell, they must endure the hardships, need to be careful in every aspects of life or they will be thrown to the bottom pit. However, YiBo blocked the schedule to rehearse for Zhan made me at ease; it simply mean they are in a good terms. I don’t care what kind of relationship that they are in, as long as they are in good terms I am happy. If it is a romantic ones, then let it be. Hi. Could you please tell me about that you were talking about how they were on good terms. What Yibo did. Uwuuu... I am an Indian fan and I really loved the chemistry between Yibo and Xiao Zhan. They were such good friends ( I seriously don't care if their relationship was platonic or not ). And when I heard about the scandal I was soooooo pissed off. Because please! I actually think they played it quite smart. This isn't like the weibo awards where they stood right next to each other. There were two people with HUGE dresses between them and everyone was screaming at them, how exactly were they supposed to interact? The whole night was about GGs comeback to mainstream media and they tried to give antis as little to work with as possible. I was shocked I got to see them together on the same stage again. It also gave me hope that they might be able to interact with each other again next year when things get better with GG. At this point I think a LOT of people know about them in the industry. When the host spoke about the BXG Banners f.e.. Also this might be me being delulu but there were so many yellow dresses? Probably a coincidence. One thing that worried me at first was DDs expression. He looked really sad/worried/tense. He froze completely at GGs speech and I think he was worried he might give something away. I honestly think he was even more anxious about this than GG. I think its definitely important we respect them and let them have their privacy. And do we really need constant interaction when we get showered in candy by them?

I think no need to feel emotional about lack of interaction, we should understand this is really a Chinese entertainment industry norm. I believe the actors cannot say anything on the bjyx ship because to say something would be to acknowledge the bl content of The Untamed. This would only cause trouble from the govt for the actors, their career, management and the production company similar to what happened with Johnny Huang and Timmy Xu after their roles in "Addicted". You can see other actors even boy/girl cp would stop interacting in public after promotion finished. They are most likely very good friends in private but are not allowed by their companies to interact publicly. Yibo is more likely to show his unhappy opinion of this due to his strong straightforward character (less used to restrictions while growing up in Korea as shown in his earlier UNIQ vlog videos). Both WY and XZ are behaving as expected of them by their company so no need to get upset. They often said in past interviews that they are good friends and it is normal for them to continue this in private just like we would ourselves.

i watched the whole thing but put in on mute except for gege, didi, yang yang, kris, yang mi, and yang zi's parts, i was literally watching the show just for them. i was freaking out when gege and yang zi were singing together onstage. while watching the show i already kept my expectations of an interaction between gege and didi to the minimum bc i knew their companies wouldn't allow it. seeing them onstage together was already good enough for me even if they weren't beside each other. the side glances were also enough for me bc it's quite rare for two co-actors in china to be seen in one event after a year since their drama.

I'm a solo fan of Yibo after the untamed im a YIZHAN lover and i trust my gut feeling and my eyes that they are couple but they have a lot of obstacle to show how they feel ..first China its not lgbtq second they are famous idol who has millions of followers and at the same time anti haters who lurking to find fault and sabotage everything...before the event haters ask the sponsor Hyundai to cancel XZ ..so if you feel like GGDD are not together or no more friends its up to you..to be famous and in love with same gender you have to sacrifice a lot ...the bjyx fans who spent a lot of money for the ticket and banners are proof that YiZhan is real and the support they give both GGDD are fans that trust them and understand the problems GGDD facing..so ask yourself what to name the relationship between GGDD ..friend or more than friend and if you decide to be solo fan no harm done just support and love your idol without hurting the other one 👍❤💚 Love and Piece ❤✌

Yes I felt rather empty after the show too. I guess it's been a long time coming and also the expectations we've placed on them after such a long hiatus of double appearances since TU. However, looking on the bright side, really love the support and love from GG's fans on the award night. I'm glad they've showed him that he's still very much loved despite everything that has happened earlier this year. His smile just makes everything better. GG has the sweetest smile and aren't we lucky to witness that again - and I hope many more to come! Apparently the signs brought in by the fans were confiscated (I'm not sure why, read from twitter).. and all of them (mtjj/xfx/bxg) helped each other to hold the signs to show support. One particular sign held by a MTJJ stated the following "YB, please be happy. I'm holding a red sign for the gege you like." That was so moving and it got me teary!! It was so lovely to see the fans of different groups being united. 😭😭❤️❤️💚💚 Whatever their relationship is, I adore them both respectively and just want them to be happy.

Don't worry. They are definitely good. Yibo made that sacrifice because he knew it could affect his gege's career if he behaved like before and it was a much anticipated show. He was just very careful and we could see how his mood was because of that.

They are really in a good term and i strongly believe yibo was there with xiao for rehersal.He is a very caring guy for his dears.His caring was evident wen he cared and supported his cast members in live events . Especially for xiao he will do anything. I know many bxg might feel sad/lil disappointed cause we couldn't see them interacted at all but as for myself I was so grateful for the fact that they attended the same event and on the same stage that seems like it was impossible esp this year. Having them standing on the same stage feels like a dream. I have been prepared for the worst, so I wasn't expecting much but it was better than I could ask for. So thankful that Tencent baba made it happen. I believe that our support and love reach both ggdd. I think it was one of the reason why gg have those teary eyes. It wasn't his only performance this year but smh it made him so emotional. Also can see both were really nervous and yeah kind of being told to watch their actions and expressions cause we know what would happen if they didn't. Cameras and media always follow their every moves and things just get slowing down so no need to raise unnecessary attention. Things that made me believe they still interacted privately are both ggdd didn't present/seen sat on their assigned seat understage and probs they were in the backstage the whole event except when they appeared on stage ofc. It was kind of strange actually since it was an award event usually guest are watching on their seat and one of them could just sat on their seat with their respective partner (ZLY/YZ) if they really want to not make another cp rumour arise. Gg could just not wear that ring and intentionally showing it off. Gg could have just took photoshoot at another time because it was so obvious he used kadian and agian showed it off clearly. Dd risked to be called playing a big name and criticized by many just to hide gg's rehearsal time to protect gg from haters boycotting him and fans crowding. We know dd only did 1 performance and gg had 2 yet dd booked 2 hours of rehearsal when others only 1 hour. Who would even do that so random? At least they might have contacted eo before the event started. The cpf who left cause it feels like bjyx has ended they are not the real fans they are only candy seekers and may not even bothered or pay concern of ggdd well being and happiness. The real fans will always stay and support both regardless of their relationship or just mere candies tho surprisingly bxg on weibo has increased by 25k new members at least😂

@@helloyibo85 It's ok I really wasn't expecting them to interact from the beginning also feel it might be even worse than weibo nite, I knew it but I couldn't be so greedy abt it but I think being a bjyx fans is an art to accept suffering :') we aren't a star chasers or merely just shipping for fun and just to seek candies. We are here to support their good relationship be it friends or more than it. That was their first stage together in a while. They might feel so nervous of people reaction but eventually they saw us giving so many support for both even people around them esp when the MC just chilling there and read one of bjyx light banner with knowing smile 😂 I believe they have their own way of dealing things. Honestly I didn’t really expect them to interact anyway, and it’s ok, I just want them to have their previous close and special relationship, whatever it is.The thing that worried me was that yibo looked sooo off, so unhappy, distracted and OVER it the whole night, idk if it was something to do with the event organization or health issues or what, it just really made me worried.But seeing them on the same stage was more than what I expected and enough for me, and I take strength from the fact that both of them didn’t appear at the awards ( I’m assuming they hung backstage 😍) and XZ rehearsed under YB schedule ( surely YB would have oked it right?)So hope everything is ok for them and wish them both the best truly cos they are such wonderful boys and I just want them to be happy..and BJYX fans , I love u guys!! That night was about ggs return more than anything. Hopefully we will see them interact again in the future but now can't be the time. I have no idea what their real relationship is and I just want them both happy, however I will say the watch thing makes me wonder.

Yibo's secret longing glance and secret smile kill me...DD is a bit more obvious, the min they showed up together, I was definitely paying attention to DD's head to see if he would turn/glance at GG and he did once very quickly for like 2 sec. Yes, I totally AGREE. Even if fans highly contribute to the popularity of Zhan and Yibo, they still need privacy for their personal life because at the end of the day, the ultimate decision on whatever they want to do is theirs and it must be respected. Good thing is both are blessed with unconditional support and love of decent and very understanding and caring fans around the world, and heartily both are so thankful and repay them with sincerity and hardwork to deliver good results being actors and entertainers. Oh, how I love them so much. Thank you too, Yibo and Zhan for being so beautiful and brilliant persons that despite the tough times in your career, you never fell and gave up but become stronger and inspiration to us and to people who experienced the same instead. I really love Xiao Zhan and the way fans cheered him on December 20 sensed me too. There was so much gratitude in his eyes, he seemed to say "thank you that you are still with me, still support me." He's just a kind soul who has suffered injustice. It's only been a few days since this event, but I already miss him on stage. Let all the bad things be in the past. Initially I was very sad about the fact that there was no interaction between them but it is understandable due to the situation.But there are few positive things as well like few people were strongly arguing that yibo is behind the suppression of xiao zhan which was absurd thing in the beginning but still it was effecting the mind of new comer fans who just watched the untamed and got to like both are actors but now after it was revealed that xiao zhan's rehearsal was hidden in yibo's schedule might have clear that misunderstanding of those who genuinely love xiao zhan. The other thing I heard that there was a great cooperation between the fans of both actors in the award ceremony that will stop the haters to provoke the innocent fans for their selfish purpose . The friendship of these two amazing boys always amazed me.. I don't know whether they are brothers friends or something else but I am sure of one thing that their bonding is very pure and deep which is unfortunately beyond the understanding of some narrow minded people. I’m actually glad that the true score with them remains private. As a fan, I feel like they’ve given me so much joy already that I’m happy if they keep some for themselves. Whether it be a friendship thing or soulmate situation, I’m good. actually, for the lack of a better description, chinese culture is quite homophobic unfortunately, so anyone who may identify as lgbtq will usually keep it a secret and many even get married and have children. homosexuality is especially shunned in entertainment (even the search term 'lgbtq' has been removed from baidu) , so it's normal that they would always refer to a potential partner being a girl. i'm not saying that this means they are "gay" in any way, but there is more than meets the eye if you think that everyone is telling the truth during interviews. unfortunately, that's just how the entertainment industry works there. also, personally speaking, i am not confusing their characters with the actors themselves because i'm basing my own judgement from the behind-the-scenes clips and their interactions during interviews. i am someone who never ever ships anyone in real life. ever. but they are the first two that made me break my own rules (although less now since it's been over 2 years since i've seen the drama), but i believe they will always be on good terms, no matter what their relationship is. as i always say, let them have their own privacy (and this goes for all actors and artists tbh). there's enough fan wars as it is -there is no need to keep attacking each other over something that only they would know the truth about

However you say that you know you see things backstage like in their eyes or a glance or whatever but people see what they want to see and they will make perceptions that are not really there.I had something happened to me a few years ago where I was becoming friends with this guy and I was not interested in him beyond becoming friends but people around me kept asking me if I was interested in him and I would say no yet they sit there and called me a liar and said I was when I really wasn’t but Because people wouldn’t leave us alone I ended up losing a friendship that I had with him As a result of it. I watched most of the show and was so happy to see them together onstage. I even enjoyed the candies that came afterwards though I don't necessarily think they looked at each other I was just happy untill yesterday. I happened to watch a channel that is pro GG and realised that maybe I have been seeing what I wanted to see. Honestly Weibo night at the beginning of the year bothered me a lot. My conclusion from that night was they had a disagreement. I felt DD was totally ignored by GG and I kinda felt bad for him. And then we got these awards as their follow-up interaction and they didn't interact at all. To me it doesn't even look like they are friends anymore based on how cold they are to each other. I think at the end of the day, only you could decide that based on your beliefs. Some see signs, some don’t since Weibo night, some not at all. Both sides of the argument can be believable but it is always your belief and conviction that win in the end. This really hurts me too, and I'm a new fan since I watched The Untamed in September this year. The truth is, we don't know what happens between them. I am more MTJJ but whatever makes YB happy makes me happy. I don't know what the nature of the relationship is but it would be much easier for both their careers if they are just good friends. Many people said the rumours about adjoining rooms, YB booking the rehearsal slot etc were all fake news but what was undeniable to me was that they both seemed to be carrying iPad Pros when they arrived in Nanjing. I'm a solo Yibo fan, which I'm not ashamed to say. My favorite celebrities don't have to come in pairs, regardless of the person they are with in real life. I like Beyonce but I'm not a fan of Jay-Z, even though they are married. I'm a fan of tennis greats Venus and Serena Williams, but I've always loved Serena more, and they are sisters. You get the point. Until I started following Yibo, I did not know anything about "shippers." I thought they were similar to people who were into fanfiction, and understood that it was all make-believe for some light fun. However, after reading many of the comments under this video, I've come to the realization that "shippers" actually believe the stories they make up. It's all very strange to me. I feel you.. Like even I dont understand the language but I bare to watched the whole live just to see them and waited they would interact though I know its impossible. A lil hope, well at least. But later on I understand that yeah ur right, privacy is the most important thing right now. People need not to know everything so long that they're ok and safe and being in top if their career. That's all that matters. And yes were lucky enough to see them together again on stage. We just love then so much that's why we expect more sometime. I really cried when gege was on stage and the red sea happened plus the scream and excitement that you can hear from the crowd. It was totally overwhelming. I felt like I was there too.. I really wish for both success regardless if YiZhan will not gonna happen again.. But ofcourse, I want to see them in the same project again.. I even wish they would play Xie Lian and Hua Cheng for Heaven Official's Blessing.. Urghh! I cant imagine.. but I know its impossible. Thank you for this video ☺☺

I cant decide that i am xfx or bjyx or mtjj... But i cried everyday since that day of Tecent award bcoz Ge Ge and Di Di didn't show interaction as u said.... i watched the good old days of them while they were filming.. I enjoyed their true smiling faces.. i want ge ge for a little star yibo to make him happy .. and i wanna ask yibo to stand beside Ge Ge forever.. But there will be a long way to walk through their lives and they have their rights and privacy.. Wang Yibo appears to be going through a rough patch. I wonder how much freedom he has in terms of work? What sort of a contract is he locked into and for how long? Ever since he went to Korea to train (at 13?), I don’t think he has had the freedom to make too many decisions about his career. Here are stories that his management did not want him in The Untamed. Thank God Dede prevailed. At the Tencent awards the other night, he looked like he was simply going through the motions almost the whole night. I was frankly shocked to see him visibly upset and on the verge of tears (at least that it what it looked like to me from all the clips and screen grabs I’ve seen) during the VIP award segment. He was giving off an emotional neediness that made me uneasy. We all hear about stars who abuse themselves or even commit suicide because of untreated depression. China is not a society where it is acceptable to need and receive mental health treatment. I’m very aware of a number of top stars in Hong Kong who ended their own lives because they were not receiving adequate treatment for depression. Ditto for South Korea. The pressure put on entertainers, especially those who are high visibility idols, is enormous. They work very hard, often to the point of exhaustion, and have little time for relaxation or relationships with friends or someone special. Depression among the general population is more common than many people realize. If Yibo is physically exhausted or depressed, I hope there is someone who can stand up to his masters and get him whatever he needs. I fear his company primarily views him as their cash cow and may not have his best interests as a human-being guiding them.

you make a lot of great points and i also really hope that he has someone near him (whether it's someone in his company, a close friend, or family), who has his health and best interest at heart and will watch out for his wellbeing. but you're right...i also fear that because of his contract, he has little say about his career and we can already see from his grueling work schedule (and constant flights) that he is likely physically exhausted. hopefully it isn't as bad as we fear and i believe his contract is up in a few years? only time will tell..

Ok so I’m very late. But will leave it here. I recently came to know that a phrase was taken away from the search engine because it was related to some ideology (which is sort of a silent resistance against social inequality). So this shows how controlling the Chinese government when it comes to media censorship because it knows how much power media holds. Though homosexuality was legalised in China in the 90s media representations were forbidden I’m sure many of us know this because of the censorship in the Untamed. Given how the show became a huge hit both in homeland and overseas and also the love being delivered past the censorship it’s a threat to the Chinese government who doesn’t want homosexuality to be widely accepted. Because representations have the power to sensitise people which will result in acceptance of homosexuality (though it might take some time). The drama is another thing but the lead actors being shipped(I’m not and don’t want to assume things about their relationship but this is based on how majority of the fandom perceives their relationship)and that being mainstream is not something the government wants. I understand where the Chinese government comes from because Yizhan acknowledging their ship is like going to play a role in bringing acceptance towards homosexuality and its representations in the mainstream media. The tencent night thing didn’t surprise me but I did feel bad for yizhan that they have to restrict themselves because of external factors.

first, seasons greetings, hello.yibo85! 🥳☃️🍾🥂😘 i agree with you abt the most likely reason for yizhan's lack of interactions at this event too, just like the last one they appeared together [the weibo event, i think], that it's probably on the advice/instruction of either 10cent or their own agencies, probably both. given the vicious attacks on GG by haters, we know and understand where that advice came from. at first i did think the two carried the whole "cease-chumminess" thing a bit to the extreme. i mean, from two ppl who were super-friendly and comfortable with each other, whose easy and natural interactions were not in the least overstepping social boundaries, to totally ignoring each other's existence like they were complete strangers who have never crossed paths before. it was like TU never happened and those weren't their gorgeous talented selves who were the leads. then on top of that, they weren't seen behaving like that publicly with other actors they've worked together, did they? what gives? this deliberate cold-shouldering each other has left room for conjectures that they have had a very serious falling-out. so serious that even normal friendliness is no longer an option - not even an acknowledging nod. it certainly left many of us bereft, brokenhearted and confused. at least after that first time... but since then i think we've followed these two closely enough these past almost two years to know that such behavior is certainly not them. they are the sweetest most polite young men ever. and extremely smart, to boot! which is why i have come to the conclusion that their over-the-top deliberate ignoring of each other publicly is also a form of "candy" - i.e. another subtle message to us 🐢🐢. perhaps it is the most important message of all, which is - their bizarre abrupt cessation of public acknowledgement of each other's existence is actually a sly nudge for us 🐢🐢 to not get affected by their odd public behavior to each other and instead to really read and understand the meaning of the candies they discretely and cleverly scatter. i dunno abt others, but with that conclusion, i am consoled. 🥰🥰🥰 *however here's a bit of news from the 10cent event that has left me sad and worried. many noticed that DD looked gloomy and not his usual composed self, never mind bright and happy. and that GG was caught peeking concernedly a couple of times [even in the clips you shared here]. according to rumor circulating among fans who were staking the site on the event days, DD was not well. due to his hectic schedule and lack of rest, his gastritis had acted up when he got to nanjing. it seemed he had severe stomach pains during rehearsal and actually vomited. both boys were supposed to do two performances, which was why GG did two songs. DD was also supposed to do a dance routine apart from singing his LoF song, but it had to be cancelled because of his being unwell. our babie really needs to pace his schedule so he can get more rest... 😢😢😢

But yeah, both of them would literally lose their jobs if they were to be hypothetically together with public knowledge. It's better for them to have their privacy. I am happy t know that I am not the only one who calls Zhange "gege" instead of just taking his name. I have a question where they were seated in the guest sitting area? It has been 4 days and not one pic could be seen of either of them sitting in the guest area. Last year there were so many fancams and everything, but this year not a single photo either from solo fans or BJYX fan has been uploaded in any social media site. Did they not sit in the guest area at all? I mean even if they sit separately from each other at least there would have been one photo of them. The only photos are either from their Weibo, Studio or from performances.

yeah i also heard that neither of them sat in the vip area and they were backstage the entire time. there is also another rumor that gege wasn't allowed to sit in the guest seating area (for what reason, i'm not sure...it could be to prevent fans from chanting his name and disrupting the broadcast, etc, who knows), but bc of that, dd ended up staying backstage as well. i'm not sure if this is true, but it's very plausible
