It doesn't rival its on par with one he would fall flat with someone who knows the vernacular (I'm a non-English speaker but mine attained fluency at 5; being cursed with high intellect, so technically my ability to speak it would rival one; actually it did rival one a college professor and foreigner admitted it) . He needs work on the flow to make it fluid; among other things.

@@itsharibonph Which is difficult coz Namjoon doesn't have anyone to really practice English with or communicate with. He obviously speaks only Korean with his bandmates and company. I agree that if he had someone he could talk English with daily, he would be more fluid but his current level is impressive as it is considering he was born, raised and studied in South Korea all his life His best friend outside of BTS, Jackson Wang, speaks fluent English too but they aren't able to meet often. They have been seen speaking English to each other often when they meet up and Jackson's Korean is very good so they can code-switch a lot

@@crystalmint1202 Both RM and Jackson aren't on the level of a really proficient native speaker, honestly. They're both at about the same level. Jackson is a little better at speaking it though. I've seen Jackson speaking English in an interview and he can carry on a conversation, but he doesn't use any advanced words at all. It was all just basic words. It would be the same as someone who knows how to speak fluent Korean like Sana. She can speak Korean like a Korean person. But if she spoke Korean with someone who speaks at a higher level, she wouldn't understand most of it. It's impressive that they both learned the language without living in an English speaking country. But they wouldn't be able to speak any more than they know now.

@@user-gp1bt4vm3r Jackson is slightly better in English than RM due to the fact that he went to an international school in Hong Kong so he had more chances to practice and communicate with other English speakers. But conversation wise, both RM and Jackson can totally hold one. Advanced/bombastic words aren't really used in daily conversations so of course they'll just use basic English. But their grammar and pronunciation are great Foreign idols do have a hard time knowing advance Korean. Besides idol training, they have to learn Korean on top of that. So them knowing basic Korean is more than good enough really I feel RM still has more potential to learn due to his high IQ though. He catches and learns easily

I agree with you.. Usually the english speakers in Kpop idol groups like Jennie, Rose, Felix, Jackson and many others, they have been living abroad or study abroad/international school for many years.. Usually the english speaker in Kpop idol group like Rose, Jennie, Felix and many more, they had studied abroad or living abroad for years.. So it is no wonder they can fluently speak english🙄 To me, RM is so amazing.. I'm also trying to learn and speak other languages.. So I know how much effort and hardwork RM put into plus with his sexy brain to learn and speak other languages since you are not familiar with the languages.. So that's the reason why RM is different from any other Kpop idold and I'm so proud of him💞💞💞 TMI : When he was younger back then, it was said that RM had to go abroad one time because he join the school program for several months only. (I think maybe 3 to 6 months)

You dont compare those idols who was born or studied abroad cos definitely they were exposed and were forced to learn English. But RM is definitely a gem, the way he learned and mastered the english, his accent sometimes you may thinks he is a native english speaker, that’s really an intellectual. Jennie is actually great coz she does not just speak English just to say something in English but if you notice she have clear diction and pronunciation that is why her singing and and rapping is really clear and understandable.She is so particular with the emphasis of words.Plus she is great in choosing her words when in an interview.She was a bit shy before but she is lately getting better in public speaking.

Even within countries there are different accents. It'd be interesting to hear an idol with a Southern US drawl or a Cockney London one. That said being a Wiz*one it's nice that they'd comment on Jang Wonyoung's pronunciation. Listening to her talk (other than some grammar deficiencies) her general English pronunciation is very close to growing up speaking it.

Yeah, there's different accents/dialects within a country. There's a bunch in Korea alone. Like, Red Velvet Irene's Daegu accent is different from APink Eunji's or IZONE Yuri's Busan accent even though they're all from the same Gyeongsang-do Province.
