the last part is quite sad. honestly there is still a worldwide stigma regarding bisexual people being cheaters. but despite japan's close mindedness about queer people, i really admire how open he is since his debut & i wish him all the best.

@@allergic_to_zucchini_noodlesYeah just like what happened to this idol Nana Okada. She pretty much got called a liar when she started dating a guy. Ever since the beginning she said she doesn't care about gender and yet people interpret it as her saying she's lesbian.

@@allergic_to_zucchini_noodles it’s not just Japan, a lot of places. Like thing he’s talking about, about hopping between wanting men and then women with random intervals. It happens to me plenty too and every time I’m questioning if I’m bi? Maybe I’m straight? Or maybe I’m gay? And only like I think month ago I learned that this legitimately normal thing for bi people. It’s fluid like that.

That bit at the end where he's like "Y'know, if I really need to, I can just do it myself" - sexual frustration is NOT a reason to cheat or to ignore consent! I'm glad someone acknowledged this publicly and is in a position where it won't just be brushed off as the copium of a lonely virgin.

as someone who is bisexual, i really appreciate shikinagi being really open about his bisexuality and being firm about the fact that he likes men AND women. we talk a lot abt lgbt discrimination and often times biphobia gets pushed to the side bc many ppl think its either an advantage to "pass as straight" or "say youre lgbt w/o actually being lgbt". ive seen a lot of biphobia around as of late and to see him be so open and adamant makes me really thankful and happy TT i wish i understood jpn to watch more of his streams bc i love his content and his way around humor/serious commentary :') thank you for translating this clip!!

Well worded and I agree! (Apologies for a long response) Being bi isn't an advantage(to pass as straight) because there shouldn't be any advantages at all in giving and receiving love. When I was trying to explore my sexuality it took me a long time to figure it out and I felt shunned from the LGBT community for being bi. I was told from all sides to pick one. But if I dated the opposite sex I was a "traitor" but if I chose to date a woman I was a lesbian. Not to mention the mental gymnastics to call people cheaters for being bi, told I'm greedy, etc. The list goes on and every LGBT label has unique struggles. But the day allies and LGBT don't support one another is the day ignorance wins. I'm sad to say this is one of the first times I've ever seen such a bi-positive comment thread and it really touches my heart.

Does Japan have that kind of biphobia issue among LGBT circles though? I feel like the “Bi people are straighties and not true LGBT” is more of a sentiment from Western circles.
@theophora
@theophora 7 ай бұрын
@@srehh5529 I think its everywhere. Even a lot of manga and lgbt doujins are openly biphobic with scenes about "picking a side" or making bi ppl out to be inherently hyper sexual or cheaters. Hell, bi men cheating is a huge trope in BL manga. Ofc im not saying that is representative of all of japan, but media has a big influence on ppl and stereotypical gender roles and repression of minority identities is still a huge problem in japan sadly.
@mozzapple
@mozzapple 7 ай бұрын
The best response I've seen in regards to biphobia is this: a werewolf. Regardless of if they're in human form or wolf form, they're still a werewolf. They can change forms, but they'll always be a werewolf. Even if they stay in one form for a long time, they're still a werewolf. Regardless of if bisexual people date those similar to their gender or opposite of their gender, they're still bisexual. A bisexual man dating a man doesn't make him gay, he's still bisexual. Dating a woman doesn't make him straight, he's still bisexual.

There will be times where I'll be more into women, times where I'll be more into men, and times where I'll be more into enby people. I still like the rest, is just a momentary (or even permanent for some) preference. It doesnt take away from my bisexuality and if I start dating someone I won't cheat on them or anything just because "I was more into the other thing sexually", if I date someone I am into my partner and that's that 😌👏

Me and my partner are very affectionate with each other, even before dating, but when we were younger we would feel the same way of "not being allowed to be attracted to someone of the same and different sex/gender identity." In fact, I could see my younger self with a lot of what he was saying. It may be a small thing that he is doing, but for both the vtuber and lgbtqia+ community it can mean the world to someone

Honestly while I'm not bisexual (I'm pan) I can really relate to his struggles with his sexuality in his beginning. I for one do not care about the gender of the person that I love, if I love them then that's all I need to know. But sometimes it just feels like I don't actually know what the hell is wrong with me. I don't like being around men as I am with women yet I'm still attracted to men. But at the end of the day I'm still attracted to women as well as people outside of those two, but just like how Akira has preferences with both men and women, It's the same for me. It just took awhile for me to understand that and feeling like "I'm just lying to myself about my own sexuality".

Honestly I feel like his trouble really stems from the Japanese mindset of black and white, "you're either one or the other", and so on. I've never seen a bisexual feel this guilty for having preferences for some videos one day and for some in other days. I'm bisexual myself, got plenty of bisexual friends too but, he is the only one who I've seen have this kind of crisis. As in so specific even down to these kind of small matters. Idk most people don't think that hard about it? And honestly that whole thought of 私って何だっけ is something I see SO present on Japanese people born and raised (and currently living) in Japan? I don't know if I'm even explaining myself properly but I feel like his confusion comes a lotttt from that specific society's culture

Thank you for translating this clip. It really resonated with me. I feel like this described how some bi people feel in a way I've never heard before at all. The "3 days women 3 days men" thing is so real 😂. It's sad that a discussion about bisexuality comes with a disclaimer of not being a cheater. The things I've heard in America even in 2023 about bisexual people is quite sad. I've known many people who refuse to date bisexual people because of being afraid of them cheating or hyper paranoid of analyzing their partners friendships with both sexes. "Just pick one!!" Thrown at me and others even from the mouths of allies and lesbian/gays who were particularly ignorant or hateful. Especially as I pass as straight, people say things never realizing I'm bi. Of course there is much love and acceptance to be found and slowly it's becoming normal as the years go by. But the misconceptions and fears people have toward other sexualities than their own still exist today in many cultures. It's another reason the idea of when dating somebody and telling them not to talk to/limit interaction with the opposite sex friends never made sense to me. Because I'm bi who does that leave? 😂 nonbinary friends only??? I wish people would understand that a stable relationship is built on trust and not fear. I appreciate when people feel comfortable openly sharing this aspect of themselves so those around us and the next generation never have to suffer in the closet.

It's honestly sad that he has to explain like "ofcourse I'm not going to cheat". There are plenty of pan or bi people who can be in a commited relationship with just one person. I could never be one of those, I'm simply too much of a slut, but I want the stigma to disappear for those people regardless. Also the questions they get like "don't you crave a man/woman at some point when you're dating a woman/man?". Stop thinking of queer people as cheaters and poly by default, cause plenty are not. I love how open he is about those feelings. I respect that. Technically I'm pan/poly/ficto myseld, but at this point I would use so many labels I don't really specifically label them, unless someone asks out of interest or when I want to explain how I think about romance and sex. Pan people get a bad look, poly gets an even worse look and plenty of lgbt people refuse to believe that fictosexual is even a thing to begin with, even though that is something that has been around for hundreds of years too, people are just too afraid to admit it, I guess.
@Mara_1337
@Mara_1337 8 ай бұрын
Yeah, well said. Just bc some ppl are attracted to more than one gender, many ppl assume they can't be with only one person. But the people we are attracted to are all individual people at the end of the day, no matter their gender. So a straight person who thinks more than one human is attractive, also doesn't automatically want to be with more than one person at a time. It really is kinda a stigma. And I also resonate with the "many labels" thing. Imo, it is interesting to figure yourself out and find out others feel similar on some levels and have given these things names. So one might think "ah the closest label that applies to me is this and that". But everyone's experience is so personal that it will never be 100% accurate to someone else's description and hence there are so many sub labels. It is interesting to figure out, but not practical or even necessary to use, unless you wanna really get into the nitty gritty of discussing it with someone...

simplifying sexuality: imagine liking coca cola and pepsi. some days you'll want pepsi more than coke and some days you'll like the other and this liking period happens a bunch. You don't drink both at the same time, that's polyamory Bisexuality is just attraction with a wider range of options, pansexual has a much wider range of options. That said, it doesn't mean that if you into a relationship that attraction will ruin your current relationship. Some straight couple still cheat despite only being attracted to one gender.

~ Long comment warning. No short cut.~ It's sad to see that people who have a multiattraction towards genders are treated badly; especially in asia. I'm a westerner and I'm glad that you share this clip. I have read a lot of BL mangas and seen animes, but I never knew if it was fiction or real. Through this video I can get the POV of an actual japanese person stuck in this limbo, that the society of japan has built up around LGBT+. I'll definitely watch "The Hole" from King Gnu. Bisexuality is often used as an umbrella term for many things. It's always easier to explain how you actual feel, than to just say the term. Technically I could label myself as bi as well, but it would limit the experiment I have. From what I understand is, he likes men and women. Hearing how he wants to be taken care of by men and wants to take care of women sounds like another stigma japan society has unknowingly built up. "Men have to be strong and take care of the weak women", that kind of bs. While with a man he can let himself slide off a bit. In my case I like every gender (expression). 2:34 this is a very known phenomena to the point it received a term. it's called (in)offically bi-cycle. It's when your preference changes over time. For most people you can still be attracted to every gender you're attracted to, but your current preference is different; your passion lies in another gender. That's what Akira is talking about. I have this too; depending on gender (expression) and biological sex. However there are cases when people's preferred attraction changes completed. So much that it feels like their sexuality has changed. They use their own term called "Abrosexual". It's like genderfluity, but with sexuality. 3:09, 3:38 I don't know why he felt that way. It might be another social and psychological thing for japanese people mixed with bisexual people. I heard often about the biphobia (I got accused of being biphobic bc I label myself as omnisexual). So I guess, something in the back of his head must have thought "isn't this cheating" and followed by a mental breakdown. A heads up: It's nothing wrong when you're not in a relationship or you're looking at porn and feel in the mood at looking at a different sex/gender in the middle of it. I do it too. It's normal. I don't know if it's because of the bi-cycle, curiosity or another factor (like short attention span, lol). I'm interested in one thing, get hyped about another thing and move on, go back, find another thing, and go forward, or maybe go back again. It's something that can be decided on the spot and you don't need to feel bad about it. I don't know if it's working for you tho, since we have different nationalities and different social structures... But I'm just trying to tell you: it's alright if you feel like this. It's completely normal. If you get a mental breakdown, cry it out and move on (if it's possible for you). ...4:44 ah. he feels bad. Because he was in a relationship with a girl, when he was a student. But his teen curiosity got the better of him and he tried other things out as well. He didn't cheat, he looked up things on the internet instead. it's understandable and alright. but now this moment got carried into adulthood. Is this even fixable with a therapist; this trauma? or does he have to live with it for the rest of his life? bluntly: i don't know. it's not within my expertise. All in all, bisexuality (or generally multiattraction) isn't about being interested in just one of the gender possibilities you're attracted in. You are attracted to all of them at the same time. More or less depending from time to time. It's nothing and don't feel ashamed about it. No it's not cheating. No it's not being unsure. No they are not claiming everyone. It's already been a year since I started questioning my sexuality and every time I thought I fully reflected and analyzed myself properly, a thought or act contradicts that immediately, so I thought I can drop some questions here if anyone wants to reply bc I've never been so frustrated with myself. I grew up subconsciously fearing men and finding my thoughts in a state of disarray whenever I'm in close proximity of. The thing is, this was way before I was molested, stalked, followed home (separate occassions) so I wonder if it's tied to how I viewed my dad (who is very strict and doesn't hesitate to raise his voice when he's irritated or feels his authority threatened) and uncles (uncle 2 was a drunkard who speaks very sexually) back then. Regardless, I have entertained thoughts in my life of having a boyfriend, was romantically interested in guys, and even had a weird, unlabelled relationship with one for 5 years (nothing sexual). It was on and off, and we had a silent agreement that we can still entertain others in our lives. In the midst of this, there was this girl that I felt very frustrated with, because I liked her, she's the first person I ever considered sexually and at some point, she almost stole my first kiss, but I refused her that time because she did it in front of the guys and I knew she just wanted to give them a show or prove something. Before cutting off the 5 yrs guy, one time at a bar, I found myself making out with a girl -- a stranger -- in the bathroom and went back to her twice even tho, again, this one made it clear that she isn't attracted to women, she said she wished she was, and just felt like having fun. And I was just rlly turned on, I couldn't stop thinking abt it when I got home. Weeks after that, I made out for the first time with the 5 yrs guy, and... I just felt so disgusted afterwards. We were considering dating fr and testing the waters but that feeling of disgust just couldn't leave me after a week, I stopped what we had going on. Now, I keep bouncing on several conclusions. I'm bi ? I'm straight and I'm confusing a different feeling I have for attraction towards women ? Or towards men? Help

Poor guy doesn't know about the bi-cycle 😭For anyone who doesn't, the bi-cycle is a thing for a lot (or maybe even ALL) bisexuals, and it often makes you doubt your sexuality if you don't know of it. You're still bisexual, but your attraction can shift around. I'm a person who primarily feels attraction in a 90% men/10% women split. But sometimes, even if only for a day, I find myself more interested in engaging with women because that 90/10 split has shifted to 70/30 or something. Sexual attraction usually isn't that clean and clear, but you get the point
