这剧刷了5遍了，里面的台词很考究，几乎没有一句废话。例如这集太后去找皇上，旁边的奴婢毫不避讳的提隆科多，这就已经说明隆科多和太后的关系非同一般，也为以后皇上除去隆科多埋了伏笔； 太后先是拿华妃为例提醒皇上选新人，而后又说不要忘了旧人，特别是皇后。短短的对话里，句句话都带有信息，几个人的关系都显现出来。就凭这一点也是其他宫斗剧无法达到的高度。

OK so for those who may be confused and wondering about 3 dramas showing almost the same thing:.......This emperor is the father of Hong Li, who grew up to become Emperor in "Ruyi" and "Yanxi" (which are telling the life stories of 2 different women in Hong Li's Imperial harem, each focused on one lady). All 3 dramas, and a much older movie called "In The Palace", are based off the same source novel and star many of the same actresses and actors, but they were in different roles from drama to drama. The Emperor's evil favorite is a recurring theme with the same actress playing her in "different generations", but the evil favorite here is the mother's generation from the evil favorite in Ruyi and Yanxi. All caught up now? Good, enjoy the drama!

@@husainahhaji436 Wei Yinglo is Ling consort in Ruyi, she had a connection with an imperial guard in Ruyi is Liucheng her childhood friend, in Yanxi is Fuheng who falls in love with her, but she sacrifices her love for entering the harem, she's a goodie in Yanxi and villain in Ruyi, but the Fuca empress who dies and Qianlong emperor are in both, but in Yanxi she's a nice one and in Ruyi a villain. It's the same period of time but told from each woman perspective, and this one is the story during Empress Dowager youth she's in both Ruyi and Yanxi the emperor mother.

Yes this is called historical drama. Different from Xianxia and Wuxia Drama. For example, Word of honor belongs to the Chinese Wuxia genre. Wuxia 武侠 literally means ‘martial arts heroes’. It is about the adventures of martial artists in ancient China, who can achieve supernatural fighting abilities through ‘Kung fu / Chinese martial arts’ training and 修炼xiu lian / INTERNAL ENERGY CULTIVATION. So Word of Honor is a Wuxia drama, based on a Wuxia danmei/BL novel. And the costumes are specially designed to suit each character’s unique personality, and originated from Chinese culture, which was said by the costume designer in one interview on Youku channel.

Watching this was amazing because there is so much that was cut out of the netflix version and it adds to the characters and their motivation. The translations are also so well done! I'm so happy I found this!

Oh I heard about a "mini" version of this show on Netflix. But yeah this full version is much better. It's long but not draggy at all. It's adapted from a very long novel series, and have already cut down a lot from the original novel. The storyline is such a rollercoaster. I like its sequel Ruyi's Royal Love in the Palace, but this is still the best Chinese period drama for me.

I'm a brazilian that know passable english to read the subtitles to a chinese novel. But the chinese culture fascinates me so much. Even the storytelling itself, the subtle details, like the tears starting to form on consort Hua's eyes when the empress tells her it's finally time to get some new concubines.
