Yes I’m Thai American and I moved to Thailand for college and even I can’t memorize the full name. My mom who is full Thai told me when they were in school they had to memorize Bangkok’s full name but after that she forgot it. Most Thai people don’t remember once they are out of school.

Yep, thats so true I didn't know my both my Aunts and Uncles actual names until I was like 13. I just called them by their nicknames. I don't think anyone in Thailand calls me by my full name when I'm there. It's funny I normally dont like being called by my nickname when I'm living in the UK but when I'm in Thailand I don't mind at all and even introduce myself with my nickname instead ~

I live in Saraburi (±2hrs from Bangkok) and the first time I tried to book a van to Bangkok I told the lady I wanted to go to Bangkok and she was like "what?" so I kept repeating "Bangkok. Bangkok" until I was so frustrated and asked for a friend to help. Apparently Thai people don't say "Bangkok", they know the city as "Kroongthep" (the first word of the long ass name) so now whenever people ask me where I'm going, I say "pai Kroongthep ka" xD
