The fact that the owner got concerned with him pointing and 'firing' part of a big gun into the store everywhere shows he is a good gun shop owner who thinks safety first. He was probably wishing he knew a bit of Korean to ask you personally to stop..😅

I think the owner was looking worried because one of the primary rules of visiting a gun store is you can't flag another person going through your line of sight, even if the weapon is not loaded. I used to live close to a pawn shop/gun store in Stockbridge Georgia, many years ago. And the owners put up a huge sign you couldn't miss, and that was one of the rules.

4 rules of gun safety: 1. Treat every firearm as if its loaded 2. Never aim at anything you aren't willing to destroy 3. Know your target and whats behind your target 4. Keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to fire. To hurt someone, it requires breaking every rule.

Old comment, and I don’t know if google will translate this properly, but dry firing is fine so long you’re keeping the gun pointed in a safe direction, it’s not a rim fire like 22 long rifle (the firing pin can strike the chamber and break), and you’re not excessively doing it to a revolver (which can leave indexing marks and make new revolver look used). Dry firing will never hurt a center fire gun and is important for checking the trigger pull to see if it’s too heavy and sloppy or too light and immediate for your purposes. This is especially important for old used guns, I have come across a rifle that’s trigger was messed up or heavily modified and was so light it’d go off just turning on the safety. When I informed the shop owner their gunsmith took it away to fix it.

The reason for handguns not having a manual safety is that many US citizen carry them for self defense. Because ordinary citizens are not as trained as a typical soldier, when under the actual stress and pressure of having to draw the gun and shoot a bad guy, many untrained citizens forget to take off the safety and in the moment when you need it the most the gun did not work because they did not disengage the safety. That is the reason it has become popular not to have a manual safety. So instead of manual safety, many handguns now have thumb safety, Trigger safety Firing pin safety and Drop Safety. this prevents firing of the weapon on accident. And instead everyone gets trained about trigger finger safety.

In a US gun store it is always polite, to ask if you can dry fire a firearm before doing so. Also, if you arent sure where to aim ask them. Obviously there is a language barrier but i understand why the owner would be nervous. Also while you shouldnt baby your own guns since they are meant to be able to take a beating, always be polite and handle firearns you dont own yet with care. If you arent buying it they gotta sell it to someone else so be gentle 😂.

You look so surprised by the gun shop. I’m from Texas. This is on every corner here and even in Walmart 😂😂. I’ve been shooting guns since I was ten years old. Grew up on a farm shooting rats and snakes as a kid. Graduated to wild hogs and deer to eat. Guns are fun but you need a little fear and a healthy respect to keep it safe. I really like your videos. Funny and educational. 😊😊

Too true. A healthy respect to any gun, loaded or unloaded. I remember the first time my Dad gave me the straight poop about guns was when he caught me trying to play with his .22 Colt single action army, and he tanned my hide real good. Then afterwards he took me to the chicken pen and asked me if I wanted chicken that night. I said, "Yes." He ask, "Which one do you like the least." I pointed to this one bantam rooster that flogged me every time I went in there to get eggs. I said, "That one." And as fast as those words left my mouth, Dad drew and shot from the hip, and that chicken's head was gone. The lesson learned is that a gun meant for one thing only: killing. A tool yes, but a killing tool. So be careful where you use it. Never forgot that lesson, and developed a healthy respect for guns since.

In South Korea, it's illegal to own guns and even police officers don't typically carry guns on them. The police station has a locked up area where weapons are stored and checked out temporarily for certain situations. Even for civilians, if you'd like to go hunting then you can rent out a rifle at legal locations (idk if it's also at the police station or not). That's why they laughed about "how many viewers will be able to buy guns" and it said "welcome to Korea" on the screen. Because they can't privately own guns in their country. Only the military and police have guns normally, but safety and documentation is a big thing. Could be wrong on some details since I'm not Korean, but from what I understand, that's the basics of it.

Reason for lack of safety is for response time. Guns can malfunction on its own with or without safety and adding another layer of item to think about in the middle of crisis is certainly not a good thing. In return, most gun owners are recommended to get proper holsters to carry in. Also most striker fired pistols have internal safety for drops and some will have trigger safety builtin

8:09 The reason some of these firearms don't have safety switches is because some more modern firearms have a grip safety meaning the gun will not fire unless the palm of your hand is also pressing down on the "palm-lever" (idk what it's actually called). It still has a mechanical safety, just not a conventional lever because very often in the heat of the moment you may forget to switch it back on or off and those seconds matter. A grip safety you don't even have to think about it, just have a standard grip and pull.
@aw35242
@aw35242 Жыл бұрын
Very few modern guns use a grip safety, and the 1911 which is an age old design does use a grip safety. So thats not really accurate. The only few guns that use a grip safety are marketed towards being more 'gentle' and manageable.
@gregbagel791
@gregbagel791 Жыл бұрын
Its not a grip safety, but typically a "trigger safety", an extra lever within the trigger mechanism. A lot of SIG pistols have no safety at all. grip safeties are typically more common in Europe (unless you're using a 1911).
@jason200912
@jason200912 Жыл бұрын
the grip safety is something you'll see with 1911 which has a manual safety as well. The reason they don't have them is because some people forget to take off the safety in self defense and so they prefer the glock and SW trigger safety tab. I cannot think of many guns with grip safeties other than the 1911 and the p7 HK
@MadFluffysterXaines
@MadFluffysterXaines Жыл бұрын
Specifically for handguns the use of safety levers have gotten more rare. Generally after you've experienced carrying a firearm for self defense whether it be hunting, hiking, in the city, or vehicle use people tend to not like safeties as they can get in the way of defending yourself in a stressful situation. Safeties can seem great but you have to train under stress a lot to reliably remember to flip it off AFTER something happens. Yes its easy to flip, but everyone is different in a stressful situation and you arent thinking methodically or clearly without extensive training, so you can forget to flip the safety.

About handguns not having outside safety. Modern handguns have 3 safeties, drop safety, barrel unlock, and trigger safety. As long as you follow the rules of gun safety (1. Being, finger out of the trigger guard), you should not have a AD or ND, so manual safety is just a waste of weight and space. That being said, military handguns in US have them as requirement, civilians do not.

It seems rare to find videos like this. It offers an interesting perspective
@gregbagel791
@gregbagel791 Жыл бұрын
To clarify a few things that may have been confusing in the video. 1) The first AK pattern rifle he is carrying I believe is made 100% in the USA. It can have its parts swapped out with the original Russian parts should the owner wish to for different uses and aesthetic. 2) While I typically recommend a firearm with a safety for people getting used to firearms, companies like Smith and Wesson and SIG have started offering firearms, especially combat oriented firearms without the safety (Military and LEO versions still usually have safeties) or with a "trigger safety" (a safety within the trigger mechanism that gets depressed when pulling the trigger yourself but harder to set off accidently). This is because civilian shooters who want a gun for self defense do not have as much time to prep a gun in an emergency when deploying it should they get attacked. Removing the standard safety feature allows them to bring the gun into the equation much faster. Once again, only experience users should do this. It requires great trust in your gun and your own skill (if you are nervous, just get one with a standard thumb safety). 3) 5.11 gear (heavily shown off in this video) is really mediocre combat gear, especially their plate carriers. Their standard pouches are decent tho and I use the 5.11 dump pouch. 4) "Rapid fire" (Full-Auto) is not illegal in the US, but requires a lot of certifications and tax stamps to own so it is very uncommon among civilians. 5) Waving a gun around in the store is considered very rude and dangerous, hence the gun store owner was nervous he was pointing the shotgun around. 6) Shooting glasses are recommended when operating a firearm because yes the gun may break and explode in the operators face, but more typically its to block dust, debris, and possible brass ejecting from hurting your eyes as well as any shrapnel (common if engaging steel targets at close range). 7) The MP5 fell out of use with a lot of militaries even though it is a very well designed gun not because they thought 9mm couldn't penetrate a person, but that it could not defeat body armor specifically (which is why the 10mm, 40 cal, and 5.7 round were all invented).
@animal0mother
@animal0mother 8 ай бұрын
1) Why produce AKMs in the US? It's not for customization. AKs aren't anywhere near as modular as ARs. From Guns America: "In response to the aggressive military actions of Russian prime minister Vladimir Putin, President Obama issued punitive economic sanctions against them. One of these actions was the restriction on imports of Russian-made firearms into the United States. While some manufacturers were spared, the largest Russian manufacturer of AK rifles, Izhmash, was not. This lead to increased fear that all AK rifles would face importation restrictions VIA executive order. This, combined with the huge time delay on imported firearms stuck in US Customs and so-called sporting clause limitations caused by section 922r, created an unstable AK resource market." A little similar to how Toyota trucks for the US market are assembled stateside.
@animal0mother
@animal0mother 8 ай бұрын
4) The fact that since 1986 there's only a fixed registry with a fixed number of legal automatic guns in the US turns them from a typical consumer good into an investment. A civilian-legal M4 or MP5 costing $30,000 instead of $500-$1,500 for comparable semiauto weapons goes a long way to discourage their use. Of course, there are many kludges like forced-reset triggers, binary triggers, bolt-cycled safeties, not to mention crappy old bump stocks (perhaps illegal now due to an executive order by Trump; I don't know the current legality of bump stocks).
@animal0mother
@animal0mother 8 ай бұрын
7) 10mm and .40 S&W were not designed to be armor piercing. They were invented in response to FBI concern over effectiveness of 9mm loadings in the '90s. Bear in mind this was just a bit after that particularly infamous shootout between FBI and bank robbers in Miami, which had some real comedy-of-errors moments such as one FBI agent setting his main revolver down on a car's dashboard in preparation for a potential fight, and then said revolver getting jammed between his car seat and his door which was pinned shut in contact with the bank robbers' SUV, as they caught rounds from a Ruger Mini-14 into their car. That incident convinced the FBI to switch from revolvers to semiauto pistols, but then reviews of incidents against people and dogs with 9mm guns, led them to first field 10mm, but finding the recoil too stout for many agents, shortened its case till we got .40 S&W that we know today.
@gregbagel791
@gregbagel791 8 ай бұрын
@@animal0mother but wasn’t it in the famous shootout the perps were wearing body armor which made their handguns less effective as well, it’s a big reason 10mm was considered and created. Domestically producing AKs is of course due to import restrictions but also costs, and you can still purchase AK Russian parts, they are just shipped in through Eastern European countries to circumvent laws.
