I'd say it depends more on the director, but yes ur theory is correct. A lot of big-budget actors rely more on their popularity than their acting skills. The director, 知竹 has directed several short films before this and did a fantastic job.

Well written! Timeline provides an interesting view point on perspective and judging history vs living it. I like that the characters have their own motivations and aren't the usual isekai NPC type. I heard you can watch in two different POVs, so I have to figure that out later on.
