▶Synopsis:
Gongsun Li, a beautiful commoner, has been studying Kung Fu from her grandfather alongside two senior apprentices ever since she was a little girl. During her youth, she saves a boy named Ying Zheng, who later becomes the King of Qin. Her world is turned upside down when war breaks out amongst the warring states and her grandfather is killed by the Qin army. As a result, Gongsun Li is forced to flee her hometown. Her longtime senior, Jing Kie, is then poisoned for attempting to protect her. In order to obtain the cure for Jing Ke, Gongsun Li chooses to marry the king, Ying Zheng, who is responsible for invading her nation and murdering her grandfather. Soon after, Gongsun Li discovers that she is pregnant with Jing Kie’s child. When Ying Zheng’s discovers Gongsun Li’s pregnancy, he comes to her aid by claiming that he is the father of the child, which deeply moves Gongsun Li. In order to ensure the safety of Gongsun Li and her child, Han Shen, Gongsun Li’s other senior, chooses to become an imperial bodyguard in the palace. Faced with the dangers and perils of life in the palace, Gongsun Li develops into a strong woman and eventually earns people’s respect through her wisdom and kindness.

Now imagine how many skilled people it takes to create an actual size throne room take the footage of one scene with so many different angles and an actual sword stabbing and dying scene where the sword needs to come out of the actress without actually harming her. this is the second Asian historical drama series that really caught my attention after the great queen seondeok in 2010. It's definitely worth a watch!!! I really appreciate that the author of the story goes to the very sad and heartbreaking end as it should be and known in history and not for the fuss of high ratings. Moreover, this drama raises awareness of the danger of untreated PTSD, which can cause even more unthinkable damage when the victim holds such immense power, as in the case of an unbearable childhood trauma suffered by the king himself. Unfortunately, this kind of knowledge was still unknown in 238 BC. Also, I have the utmost respect for Zhang bin bin, who perfectly interpreted his role as the tyrant king at the age of 24! He has such charisma that I can't even take my eyes off his every move during this show. I can feel his immense hatred, distrust, deep pain and abandonment just through his eyes, facial expression and voice. Without wishing to be unkind, I really hope that one day he can play the role of another notorious figure like Jenghiz Khan. I can't wait to see how he wows us with his great talent for this complex character.

Binbin is a skillful actor. I watched it because of him. Such a complex character!ruthless cold blooded manipulative king perfectly played by Zhang Binbin. King is obsessed with Li er, he doesn't love her. He is possessive, obsessive, jealous, unkind, brutal towards her. Though she never cheated on him nor she is disloyal but he never trusts her. Maybe because he is not a trustworthy person that's why he doesn't trust anyone. Not even Li er.on the other hand Li er is so devoted towards him. She believes his lies about peace and prosperity. She is good that's why she sees good in others. No matter how much dark the king is, she sees light in him. So much contrast in both characters! I ❤this drama. There is no way it could be a happy ending!! The king is an evil maniac. He doesn't deserve a happy ending...jin ke is also a selfish egoistic character. Han shen is a balance character.he is brave, selfless. He is best for Li er. They should have kept him alive. I feel sorry for him.

This was really excellent. It leaves one with a heavy heart and longing for a better ending. But truth be told a good ruler is whom who understands his subordinates. It's also goes to show that how one's choices are far more important that the past and future. What you choose today is what makes you tomorrow and what had been you yesterday. The king of Qin experienced Trauma at a young age. Trauma caused by conflict and war. He was unable to protect his loved ones which led to his wish and goal. Though he is right that by uniting the world there will be peace he has chosen sacrifice to reach his goal instead of an agreement between the states to work together as one. Vin Zhang's acting was exceptional. Acting such a complex character difficult but he did it perfectly. Thank you to all the main actors they were also exceptional and understood the characters well. Thank you to all involved in creation of this drama. Thank you to the director and writer for executing such a thought provoking drama. This is truly one of the best literally work I have known. Faced with may themes and lessons. I have learned a lot. Thank you all the way from South Africa.

The ending is so sad but I'm not gonna lie and say I had to use the whole box of tissues to wipe my flowing tears because there were none. I feel so sad that Li Er had to die at the hands of the man she loved but the truth is that she shouldn't have told him that she wanted him dead, that alone was enough to make the king doubt her love for him. She knows the kind of person he is but she still pushed his buttons. I've seen a lot of sad endings but this is the only drama that I feel like everything could've been avoided. I loved the king and his goal to reunite the world was the best, it is just sad that in the end, he had to lose the people he loved because he couldn't trust anyone and now that I think about it, I think he also doubted himself at least two or three times a day. I think the only reason I can't feel sad for Jing Ke's death is that I hate people who can't accept that some things are just not meant to be. He loved Li Er but he isn't the first person to lose someone he loves. Han Shen also loved Li Er, he loved her more than the two of them (The king & Jing Ke) but he didn't linger around because he saw that he didn't have a chance. Great drama btw. Hats off to the cast and crew.

I think u r right I don't see why Li Er could not move on yet she gave Jang ke a chance but he refused to take it not once but twice, yet she eventually found a man who loved and even accepted her illegitimate child. Secondly the King and her had a deal which she accepted.So the King was not a home wrecker there was no home to wreck in the first place n now that Jing ke had a chance to do those greater things which made him reject Li, why again was he wasting time wrecking the King's home? I think the issue is after everything they had been through he still DIDNT trust her. You think the feelings they had would have showed exactly how she felt about him. So even if she said “Ill kill you” he should have knew she wasnt serious. He had serious issues with trust and it cost him a lot. In the end, the king is the evilest character. Li Er's servant did what the king asked her to do and did not follow Li Er's request to do, instead the servant put a deadly poison on Jeng Ki's drink, and she gave Li Er tea with something that knocked her out. It's a very sad ending.

Anyone remember the story of Scarlet Hearts Ryo? The 4th and the 7th prince got involved with the same woman and later impregnated by the 4th prince who became a king and been left alone too? The woman also died in that era. I had watched the Korean version. This A King's Woman has a bit of touch of that drama. I Think this is one of the rarest best costume drama that I have seen considering it's Vince Zhang and Dilraba Dilmurat's team up. Quite engaging

In this drama i cried so much. This drama has very sort of emotions. If someone loved them truly they never want to hurt them. But here the king want every thing want he loves in any means. This can't be called true love. But Han Shen love towards her is true love. He lived his life for her and ended his life for her. really in this drama Han Shen is the hero. Kings acting is really so nice. Lan er is also so lovily character. Over all this drama has mixture of emotions.

Has anyone ever got happiness by destroying someone's house? And the king had destroyed his lover's house and something which is achieved by wrong way that thing does not last long so how can the king get a happy ending. The bad situation of king in his childhood was a test, It comes into every person's life and through it the true nature of a person is highlighted.If king was truly a nice person he wouldn't have tried to destroy the life of child of her lover cause he knows the life of painful childhood and before he has guaranteed the birth of child because he was threatened by his lover so yes I think the king behaviour and actions are the reason for his bad ending because at the last the god is the almighty who decides who is the king of the world .

The ending is too sad. I feel that the King deserves to be happy with the woman he loves, after all he can accept Jing Ke’s son and loves him like his own and Li Er has also grown to love him. Yan Dan should not hv attacked the Qin. After all the King treats him like brother. If Li Er did not help him to escape, he would not hv the opportunity to attack Qin and all those who sacrificed their lives for him need not hv to die also. Li Er, Tian Ming and Yi Zheng can live happily. Li Er can influence Yi Zheng to be a good king. Tian Ming will hv a happy life with Yi Zheng and Li Er. Now he becomes an orphan. Jing Ke is very selfish. What did he achieve by doing what he did? Nothing only more misery for Tian Ming, Yi Zheng, Yan Shen has to die, Fan has to die. He could hv moved on his life with Lan Er and everyone will be happy. Yan Dan can be the King in his own right. What is so bad to submit to Qin. After all is not like he has the power to do great thing. He should be happy to be able to return to his own homeland and be his own king. I thought that was what he wants in the first place. Back to his homeland. Did not expect him to become ambitious and lead to the death of so many. Thus is he any better than Yi Zheng? No, many people hv to forgo their happiness to satisfy his desire to acquire power. In the end no one wins. Yi Zheng becomes miserable as he lost his wife and son. Yan Shen died, Lan Er lost her loved one, Tian Ming becomes an orphan instead of future King, Jing Ke died and Li Er died. Not forgetting also King’s faithful Da Chong who also had to sacrifice to take the stab from Jing Ke. Le Er greatest mistake is to let Yan Dan escape. Otherwise everyone can be happy.

We all go thru disappointments in life and yes his life sucked but killing is what makes the tyrant happy. He does not love her child. The Emperor in real life, never married. He stayed single till the end of his days. Altho he had hundreds of Concubines, he never had an heir to replace him. He built the Great Wall, remodeled the palaces, he wanted to remain immortal. His Terra-cotta soldiers to protect him in the after life. All his concubines went with to his chambers.
