The story obv doesn't want to upset our romantic notion so its not hinted, shown or even implied. I dont believe he had self control in the year based on the maid he bedded who was nursing him. So??! Emperor in Yanxi palace said he loved Wei Young in the 3years he was apart. But he had children and took another concubine too in the seperation time. I also found when he fell out with one woman he just went to another🤮. So? Glad they show Marquis as a different man but clearly he did use to "visit" his harem even though he didnt get on them.

@@tarrysmile Concubine Qin was actually chosen by his mother after taking care of Lingyi when he fell ill. Before Shiyiang, he did his filial duty by ensuring the Xu family thrived having several children to carry the name. Emperor's were encouraged to have many concubines therefore increasing the chances of some, if not all his children would make it to adulthood. Some concubines were also more talented than others and some lost favor. There were several other cultures that followed that same principal.

@@Skydancer263 ... yeah i think thats the problem my modern mind can't wrap my head round. 1) filial piety. Not a very common ideology. Ive interpreted it as parents control your life End of. So his actions and decisions (preShiyi) very confusing. Especially now he is standing up for Shiyi against mother. You knew mum was wrong before but you didn't do or say anything? Now there is 3/4 women who want to destroy Xu family . And its a surprise 🫢. I do think for me something got lost in translation and his character progression is just not easy to understand. There were a few scenes where we hear people saying you've really changed. Maybe as a viewer we really need to use our imagination 2) "...propagation of my line"...quote Story of Minglan". If you think in Britain the woman would have 10-15children and maybe not all will survive. But it was 1 woman ( well lets assume thats most families). So the idea that child mortality and having an heir was an issue i understand. Henry VIII cough cough. A lot of things fall apart qt the seams. Im a ethical moral man but before i couldn't stand up to my first wife, my mother and women who just went in my bed. Its mums fault. But now im stronger. What? To also not annoy the audience i will not sleep or force the woman i love and behave like a teenage boy ( unrealistic?)... Ok my summary is a bit harsh. Since i still rewatch the show. Hope it doesnt put anyone off! Still worth watching Anyway, if they'd written it as a fluff we can just laugh it off. But as a serious ish piece. There is a few things that i wish theyd really touched on. The conflict with Ou family was just unnecessary. I was really keen to see the two working on that. Maybe im expecting too much.

I cry every time I rewatch this episode, the emotions are done so well. The plea, the forgiveness, the melting of his doubts...and wowza that kiss! A lot of times c-dramas have a failure on the kiss scenes, but I've never seen Wallace Chung or Seven ever fail to give anything but the best emotions and full effort to their kisses...its not just a physical thing, its a deep emotional moment and they bring everything to the table! 😍🥰❤

Finally here it is: the real Kiss. But what a Kiss! Full of love, passion, devotion. His face expression right before the Kiss said everything. What I really admire in this drama is their cooperation, understanding and communication. They are great couple and I find the ML very handsome. Not so many intimate scenes there, but the better they are. Another level of intimity. As for second ML, pure man and character. Great drama worth to watch.

@@christinecameron1612 True. However, Concubine Wen was a victim of the times and was basically used by her clan/family to force a connection to the Xu family. She came into his household when he was low on supplies during battle and made into a condition in exchange for receiving the aid he needed for his soldiers. She continued to work her family's angle and use the Xu name and influence to further the Wen family's business. I do think he should have been more generous to them as they were victims too, but I can understand his resentment at constantly being manipulated and having no control over his personal life. I think he tried to be as polite and tolerant as he could be, but he's only human, and he's in love - with someone else. She is my favorite of his concubines though - I like her sassy attitude, even if she can be a bit boujee at times.

其实徐令宜这个人设相当不讨喜，也就钟汉良能演出你说的这些元素，而且谭松韵这个人设也比较给力(编剧细节就不吐槽了)。可以类比的，来不及说爱你的慕容沣很渣，还是钟汉良，演出人物的无奈，长情。反过来讲，因为这两个人物其实不完美，才有些可信，我就见过老一辈先婚后爱还过挺好的。老夫少妻也有挺和谐的。慕容沣的故事感觉就是蒋介石陈洁如，加上张学良赵四的故事,再美化点的感觉。真是完全不可信的是何以琛，就是一个梦。

I keep going back to my thoughts that she was his first love and although he had three wives he never loved them. She came into his life and turned it upside down with patience, understanding, kindness, and even when she refuses to go home with him and even stabbed him he was ready to forgive her because he loved her.
